BMW’s original 3-Series, the E21 was produced as a compact two-door sedan and convertible from 1977 to 1983. This 1978 BMW 320i came factory-finished in Polaris Silver over blue vinyl upholstery and features a fuel-injected 2.0-liter M10 inline-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car had reportedly been cared for by its original owner up until 2020 and was acquired by the seller from its second owner in 2021. It has been fitted with aftermarket BBS wheels and benefits from recent service including an oil and filter change and a brake fluid flush. Accompanied by its original owner’s manual and service booklet, this classic 3-Series is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California while showing less than 44k miles on the odometer.

The E21 was designed by Paul Bracq who was also responsible for styling some of the most iconic BMW and Mercedes-Benz cars of the era. This 320i was painted in Polaris Silver from the factory and the seller believes the hood and sides have been previously refinished. Equipment includes polished silver bumpers and trim with black rubber moldings, dual polished mirrors, chrome front kidney grilles, quad headlamps, front fog lights, a heated rear window, and an aftermarket chrome-tipped muffler. The car rides on a set of 13” BBS basketweave alloy wheels. The seller notes some cosmetic imperfections are present and previously installed front and rear lip spoilers were removed during their ownership. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in blue vinyl upholstery with matching carpets and a contrasting black dashboard. Equipment includes a BMW roundel-badged gear knob, a black four-spoke steering wheel, manual window cranks, pop-out rear quarter windows, a heater/defroster, air conditioning, an analog VDO clock, and an aftermarket Pioneer stereo paired with Panasonic speakers. The seller notes the air conditioning system does not blow cold and requires a recharge with R12 refrigerant.

Up to 109 HP and 112 lb.-ft of torque comes from a 2.0-liter M10B20 inline-four engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed Getrag manual transmission. Service performed by the seller is said to include an oil and filter change, a brake fluid flush, and an air/fuel ratio adjustment to satisfy California emissions requirements.

This sale will include the original owner’s manual and service booklet, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know“I have owned this vehicle for just over a year, I was so amazed by its condition once I received it, very original, and was told by the seller that he had purchased it from the original owner. I believe the mileage to be correct vehicle is very original and has all the original equipment intact. Since my ownership, I have removed front and rear spoilers, oil and filter change, and had it tuned up to pass California emissions inspection. The transmission shifts beautifully and gives you the feeling of a brand new car, the engine starts up right away cold or warm, and has very good power. I own multiple cars and have no space, I would have kept it but unfortunately, it will need to go. The buyer will not be disappointed in buying this vehicle, thank you all.”

    @peabo all connected functioning correctly.

  • Peabo (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

    @said90. Thanks for confirming both the AC and the unloved Thermal Reactor. Is the air pump still connected? Prob is if it passed CA emissions. Beautiful car.

  • said90 (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

    @peabo , yes it does have the reactor , no CAT , it passed California smog inspection , i will look for the smog inspection sheet and will add it to gallery, AC has all the components intact but i believe it's empty which could have been from a leakage in the system, it is R12 and if i was going to keep it , i would change it to R134 , thanks

    I'm not up on my BMW info so be kind if this is a dumb question. Is/was this car equipped with a thermal reactor?

    Also, does the AC work? I'm in Phoenix so AC is sorta helpful. Thanks ou
