BMW’s original 3-Series, the E21 was produced as a compact two-door sedan and convertible from 1977 to 1983. This 1978 BMW 320i came factory-finished in Polaris Silver over blue vinyl upholstery and features a fuel-injected 2.0-liter M10 inline-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car had reportedly been cared for by its original owner up until 2020 and was acquired by the seller from its second owner in 2021. It has been fitted with aftermarket BBS wheels and benefits from recent service including an oil and filter change and a brake fluid flush. Accompanied by its original owner’s manual and service booklet, this classic 3-Series is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California while showing approximately 43k miles on the odometer.

The E21 was designed by Paul Bracq who was also responsible for styling some of the most iconic BMW and Mercedes-Benz cars of the era. This 320i was painted in Polaris Silver from the factory and the seller believes the hood and sides have been previously refinished. Equipment includes polished silver bumpers and trim with black rubber moldings, dual polished mirrors, chrome front kidney grilles, quad headlamps, front fog lights, a heated rear window, and an aftermarket chrome-tipped muffler. The car rides on a set of 13” BBS basketweave alloy wheels. The seller notes some cosmetic imperfections are present and previously installed front and rear lip spoilers were removed during their ownership. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in blue vinyl upholstery with matching carpets and a contrasting black dashboard. Equipment includes a BMW roundel-badged gear knob, a black four-spoke steering wheel, manual window cranks, pop-out rear quarter windows, a heater/defroster, air conditioning, an analog VDO clock, and an aftermarket Pioneer stereo paired with Panasonic speakers. The seller notes the air conditioning system does not blow cold and requires a recharge with R12 refrigerant.

Up to 109 HP and 112 lb.-ft of torque comes from a 2.0-liter M10B20 inline-four engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed Getrag manual transmission. Service performed by the seller is said to include an oil and filter change, a brake fluid flush, and an air/fuel ratio adjustment to satisfy California emissions requirements.

This sale will include the original owner’s manual and service booklet, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I have owned this vehicle for just over a year, I was so amazed by its condition once I received it, very original, and was told by the seller that he had purchased it from the original owner. I believe the mileage to be correct vehicle is very original and has all the original equipment intact. Since my ownership, I have removed front and rear spoilers, oil and filter change, and had it tuned up to pass California emissions inspection. The transmission shifts beautifully and gives you the feeling of a brand new car, the engine starts up right away cold or warm, and has very good power. I own multiple cars and have no space, I would have kept it but unfortunately, it will need to go. The buyer will not be disappointed in buying this vehicle, thank you all.”

Low mileage cars are always bring up a question is it accurate, for me being around cars for as long as i have been , i always look for few things, seat conditions, window switches, console switches, dust behind the cluster, shifting pattern , transmission winning, if all of theses are checked then low mileage would make sense, in this car i have check marks on all of it

  • said90 (seller) 7 months, 2 weeksago

no rust issue , only some surface rust on bolts and nuts that is common on older cars , overall very solid car

  • said90 (seller) 7 months, 2 weeksago

i only have the original manual and what i have done to the car , look in the web and i think there is more info about this car

  • said90 (seller) 7 months, 2 weeksago

i dont have any other service history other than what i have at hand but i think if you look in the net there are some more info about this car that i was able to see , as far as rust goes no rust through , just like old cars you see some surface rust on bolts nuts and so forth , overall very soled car

  • MMAG (registered bidder) 7 months, 2 weeksago

Any other service documents that can substantiate the miles are actual. Any rust issues and if it has always been a California car.

  • said90 (seller) 7 months, 2 weeksago

k-jetronic very simple system , not much to go wrong , most suffer from lack of maintenance, this E21 has no issues with fuel system , no cold or hot start problems, no worries.

  • Dom33 (registered bidder) 7 months, 2 weeksago

@Racer944 luckily for the buyer, I have a full Kjet system, as I swapped it for dual webber side draft Carbs for my M10

  • said90 (seller) 7 months, 2 weeksago

Hello seller here , few hours left on this auction, this E21 is well kept and very original, will be watching the auction and answer questions, all the best

  • Racer944 (registered bidder) 7 months, 2 weeksago

This looks like a very well preserved E21. I owned one many years ago that was running well right up to 250,000 miles before meeting its demise when t-boned by a Delta 88 Oldsmobile. One of the most reliable cars that I have ever owned provided that it gets some TLC like regular valve adjustment, oil changes, etc. One big issue with the K-Jetronic is the availability of a replacement or rebuilt fuel distributor if / when the original one has issues. Hope this car gets the love it deserves on this auction!
