Available for auction is this 1978 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 finished in silver over a black leather interior. Developed in close coordination with Enzo Ferrari himself, the Dino 308 GT4 was Ferrari’s first production mid-engine V8 as well as their first production car to feature styling by Bertone rather than Pininfarina. This 1978 example is said to have remained under the care of its original owner before it was eventually acquired by their mechanic who had maintained the car up until very recently. It was specified with rare options including a sunroof and air conditioning before it was imported from Europe and federalized for the U.S. market. Benefitting from a major engine-out service completed earlier this year, this 308 GT4 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
The 308 GT4’s angular bodywork was styled by Marcello Gandini of Bertone, designer of the Lancia Stratos as well as Lamborghini's Miura and Countach. This example is said to have been refinished in its original silver color within the last 10 years and the seller reports a small crack in the rear window glass, additional images are provided in the photo gallery. This example comes equipped with a manual sunroof, pop-up headlights, and US-spec bumpers. This Ferrari rides on 14” Cromodora five-spoke wheels which come dressed in a set of Ironman tires.
Inside, you will find a black leather interior highlighted by a pair of custom Recaro bucket seats with embroidered headrests and power driver’s seat adjustment. The GT4 makes an excellent grand touring car with accommodations for luggage as well as a spacious and versatile 2+2 seating configuration. Features include Veglia Borletti instrumentation, air conditioning, power windows, and a period Blaupunkt gooseneck radio.
Power comes from a mid-mounted all-aluminum 2.9L DOHC V8 engine featuring a flat-plane crankshaft and four Weber carburetors. Approximately 250 HP is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. The tubular spaceframe chassis was tuned with the help of Ferrari’s factory driver Niki Lauda and features fully independent suspension with double wishbones and anti-roll bars. This example is said to have recently undergone a major engine-out service at a cost of over $10k including new valve cover gaskets, valve adjustments, new fuel lines, spark plugs, belts, tensioners, and rollers, as well as a new battery and an oil and filter change.
This sale will include a clean title. Representing a significant piece of Ferrari’s history and a fantastic example of period design, the 308 GT4 offers one of the greatest values of all classic Italian sports cars.

Looks good in Argento! Fair amount of corrosion on this car under the decklid. Should be looked at in person I think. GL
The tires (the one pictured) appears to be a four digit code, the best I can see. Looks like 2019?
Lovely GT4. Could we see some shots of the underbody? Tire date codes? It would be great to see some service records as well. Any documentation re importation? Is the a/c operable? Any accident history? Rust?
@seller - few things please: 1) service records, including last engine out/belt service? 2) any "needs"/issues known? 3) Titled in what state? Currently registered? 4) Missing rear valance between tailpipes yes?
