Up for auction is this 1978 Porsche 911SC Carrera-style tribute finished in Signal Yellow. Over the course of the last several years, this 1978 example has been transformed into the Euro Carrera tribute we see today with a classic ducktail rear spoiler, a custom RS-style interior, and 17” Fuchs-style wheels as well as a rebuilt and upgraded engine and transmission. Having received considerable amounts of maintenance and upgrades in recent years as well as a major service just carried out in preparation for sale, this beautifully executed Carrera tribute is now being offered for auction by its seller our of Ohio.
This 911SC is said to have been media blasted before undergoing a full glass-out respray in the desirable classic Porsche color of Signal Yellow. The paintwork is noted to have been carried out to a very high standard, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. Visually, this 911SC has been modified with a fiberglass ducktail rear spoiler, Carrera side graphics, a Carrera front valence, and 17” Fuchs-style reproduction wheels which are currently dressed in a set of Sumitomo tires dated from 2017.
Inside, the cabin has been redone and fitted with RS-stye door panels, a 917-style wooden shift knob, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, and GTS Classics Monte Carlo seats with nickel grommets and decorative Porsche crests. A modern Continental radio has also been installed and the A/C has been recently overhauled and upgraded with a complete RennAire system. The odometer has been previously replaced and the actual mileage remains unknown.
The factory 3.0L flat-six engine has been previously rebuilt and fitted with upgraded head studs, Carrera chain tensioners, and a new Billy Boat exhaust system. The 5-speed manual gearbox has also been rebuilt and paired with new shifter cables as well as a lightweight aluminum clutch kit. An extensive amount of maintenance has been carried out since 2010 as detailed in the invoices provided in the photo gallery. Work carried out by Planet 9Eleven in 2021 includes the installation of an upgraded oil cooler kit, a new factory airbox and pop-off valve, rebuilt rear axles, new stainless steel braided brake lines, a valve adjustment, and new valve cover gaskets. The most recent invoice from Steinel’s Autowerks totaling nearly $5k also includes new belts, gaskets, seals, rear shock absorbers, a new Turbo tie rod kit, and a transmission fluid change among other service items addressed in preparation for sale.
This sale will include original owner’s manuals, service records, a spare tire, and a clean title. With its upgraded performance and classic Carrera-inspired styling, this tastefully customized 911SC is sure to satisfy any air-cooled driving enthusiast.

@saga1113 - I see what you're talking about and it is a bit odd, but not appearing to be foul play at all. Hoping the winning bidder didn't have a refresh issue or anything like that. Congratulations to @sizzlechest on what appears to be a truly exceptional example!
Did I see this right? The winner bid against himself to win this auction? lol
To help meet the reserve maybe?

@550bryan That's ok, we are all biased a little bit!
The real bidding typically starts in the last hour. The rest is just practicing, making sure our credit cards work, etc :)
The current bid is still short of where this should be, and probably below reserve. I'm no doubt prejudice as I have this cars twin but it makes for a stunning package.
Bid in the amount of $50,500
@M491 Given the engine has less than 4k miles since rebuild we did not see any value in performing a leakdown test.
Once the work on the estimate (discussed below) is finished up the car will need nothing and I would not hesitate to drive it across country.
The seats do recline.
@Neverenough Thank you, I was just coming on here to address that. This entire estimate of work WILL be completed at our expense. We had anticipated having it completed prior to auction end but Steinel's has been incredibly backed up and we are waiting on another car to get wrapped up before sending this one over to do that work.
If we had known that it wouldn't have been completed by auction close, we would have delayed the start of the auction, but it is what it is now. Bidders please note that the entire estimate from Steinel's will be completed and the car will need NOTHING, but it will be 1-2 weeks before that will be wrapped up.
Thank you all for looking and bidding on this beautiful specimen. I went and drove it over the weekend - took it to a Cars and Coffee, and it performs beautifully as it sits now, and it will be even better once all the little items from the invoice are addressed.
Nice car but Pcarmarket says

In fact this is an estimate for work to be done in the future NOT A RECEIPT for work done. See photos 107,108,109
Excited to watch this one unfold. Car really came together lovely. Seller is certainly one of the best in the business !!
Bid in the amount of $50,000
Bid in the amount of $41,000
Has a recent leak down test been performed? Do the Monte Carlo seats recline? Does the car need anything preventing it from being driven cross country tomorrow? Thanks
Bid in the amount of $40,000
Great sounding SC ! That engine tone is very nice.
Having a yellow car myself, an 80 Talbot, I can confirm the enthusiatic reactions, ranging from animated waves from fellow p-car drivers to locked stares from the young ones, as we drive by.
@woodywhichard the mileage on the engine rebuild per the receipts in the gallery is 13k in 2010. The trans rebuild receipt does not list mileage but it was in 2014. It’s currently displaying approximately 16k.
What is the respective the mileage on the engine and gear box rebuilds?
Bid in the amount of $30,500
@switchcars - would you know the maker of the RS style door cards? Stunning build of this SC!!!

Beautiful car, let’s get this started!
Bid in the amount of $911
As said Porsche said "SC" stood for "Super Carrera"..so it is a "Carrera"albeit a "Super' one!. And it is!
Beautifully done, looks amazing. Do you have the COA?
I’m wondering on the original spec.
Thanks for all the great comments - it really is a top shelf car.
That said, this is a 78 3.0L SC, NOT a Carrera, but it has been made into a '74 Euro Carrera tribute with its own flavor.
Love this SC, probably because I own this cars twin. When I saw the post my immediate reaction? Who hijacked my car. On closer inspection, some minor differences, but so close overall. And yes it is a Carrera as Manpot points out. I have to say I don't ever remember seeing an SC with crank windows, did the owner change our the power units? As to smogging it in Calif, it is lacking the catalyst with the Billy Boat header and the air pump that came on 78's has been removed, both "technically" required in Calif. Those changes liven up the performance on the 3.0 engine though. Great car, every time I drive mine people stop, turn their heads, get out their cameras etc, and yellow is the in color these days. I also own an outstanding white 997 turbo that barely gets noticed by comparison. GLWTS, although you really shouldn't need it.
@550bryan Thank you, did not know that.
@c2silver If you are referring to the knob on the far right it is the knob that opens the glove box. It isn't missing an insert, it has a slot for the key to lock the door.
Picture #56, there seems to be a push/pull button on the dash that is missing an insert. Can you comment on that?
Very nice..will this pass Ca.smog? This is a" Carrera" as SC meant "Super Carrera"
I bought my Cayman S from this seller and would buy another car without hesitation. This is great and GLWA.
Do you know the brand on the wheels?
Holy cow, this is an amazing tribute. GLWA!
