This 1978 Porsche 911SC Coupe comes finished in Chiffon White over a black interior. Said to have spent its life in California prior to the current owner's purchase in New Mexico in 2009, this 911SC has reportedly been kept in excellent driving condition with proper routine maintenance. The sound system has also been upgraded and the car was completely repainted within the last 7 years. Previously listed on PCARMARKET, this air-cooled 911 is now being offered for auction at no reserve while showing approximately 284k miles on the odometer.
This 911SC is said to have been repainted in Chiffon White approximately 7 years ago, and the car's original color is believed to have been Guards Red. The paint is said to be in good condition overall with some minor cosmetic imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery. The windshield gasket is also recommended for replacement. This SC highlights a factory sunroof, custom bumper-bellow deletes, aftermarket LED lighting, a front valence oil cooler vent, and rolled front fenders to accommodate the staggered-width 7”/9” Euromeister Fuchs wheels dressed in BFGoodrich tires.
The black interior has been modified with a hidden air/fuel ratio gauge in the ashtray, power-operated front seats, a rear seat delete, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, and an upgraded sound system with a JVC head unit, an amplifier, subwoofers, and additional speakers. The seller reports the rear window defroster is currently inoperable and the driver’s side door window wiring is missing, and the power seat bottoms only tilt and adjust up and down.
This 911SC is powered by an air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine that sends 180 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Routine maintenance has been kept up to date by the current owner including oil services, valve adjustments, and replacements of various parts as needed. An engine-out service was also performed in 2020 which included new fuel lines. The suspension has been slightly lowered, the smog pump has been removed, and an upgraded Carrera oil cooler has been installed with a thermostat and fan. Some maintenance records are included, and the seller reports the parking brake to hold loosely.

@Rocksterdibs , Kilslab answered this correctly for us. I believe the engine and transaxle surely must have been rebuilt at some point, but I have no documentation.
According to the listing the car had 28 years of history before the seller bought it. I would imagine the 3.0 had some work at some point. Can’t imagine the lower diluviar head studs going that long otherwise. On the couple of SCs I have owned in the past they have been mostly broken or cracked by 100k. As far as my interest goes, I’m just looking for a decent body. Have a 993 3.6 sitting on an engine stand waiting to go into something.
Hello that’s nice to know that maintenance has been done regularly but my question was has the engine and transmission ever had a rebuild, taken apart where parts have been changed to refresh engine and or transmission, hope this is not the original engine with 284K miles on it and never had a rebuild, and the noise I’m hearing from engine is not the wind, if you don’t know if any work has been done to the engine please just say so, thank you
@Rocksterdibs , thanks for your bid. yes, tons of work, maintenance done with engine , no it is not too noisy, it was a windy day when I took the video. Valves have been adjusted regularly, etc. runs great. The only mechanical issue that I would recommend would be to adjust the E brake. Engine is all fine and happy. Paint is just a few years old and has been garage kept. I guess you could polish and wax, etc if you'd like, but it always looked just fine to me as it is.

The smog pump and related lines have been removed, and were sold to a restoration shop in California many years ago.
Windows are hand crank, not electric. Driver side mirror in not electric, but the interior door card has an un-wired switch
Tires look great, and have lots of tread, but it iwill be time for them to be replaced soon
E Brake needs adjustment
Brake pads are good, fluid flushed a few years ago,
Smog pump will probably be a challenge in Cali, there are probably some out there for sale, and easy to install ,
or, as many collectors do, register the car in Montana. done.

I had a 78 Targa in the chiffon white. Mine actually looked a little bit darker than this nonetheless it’s a really wonderful color for a porsche.
A few questions
I’m in Northern California and I think I am reading that the smog pump has been removed. I believe this would be a problem for Smog omissions.
That said the details suggest that it was a California car add some point in time
The comment about the wiring in the driver side window, does that mean the window does not function correctly up and down?
The parking brake comment hold loosely, not really sure what that means
Tires, tread, depth, remaining tire purchase dates, etc. will it need tires in the next 7 to 10,000 miles
Breaks, same what’s the status of the brakes 50% more less and when was the last time the brake fluid was flushed
My biggest concern is California smog requirements and the missing smog pump. Please share your thoughts on this and my other questions.

@peterln3 , Thanks for your input ! I have not tried to put a rubber chin spoiler on, but they work, you know, best with a tail spoiler too. Yes, I believe the engine is original to the car, it has the big tube intake runners, correct. Engine grill lid is aluminum.
Wheels are polished Euromeisters 7 and 9s, front fender lip rolled. No, I do not have the original Fuchs wheels,

@robbylou , correct. rubber bellows were replaced with steel. and blended in. It would require bodywork repair if taken apart.
The steel inserts are just bolted in, not welded , attached to the fender and the valance, so it could be taken apart, but then bodywork would need to be fixed again
@scot8888 Thanks for the reply. Just to be sure, the fenders are connected to the lower portion of the bumper, right? I don’t see a seem where the fenders normally meet the rubber bellows.

Does the original Guards Red show up in many/any area. Not seeing any in the pics, or maybe I missed such.... front trunk/frunk, engine compartment, underneath, etc? thx
Jimbo , yes, it has the oil-fed tensioners, and I have not had any issues with head studs that I am aware of
