Purchased new at Sunnyvale Porsche in 1978, this first-year 911SC Targa comes finished in Cashmere Beige over a Cork leatherette interior. It was ordered without air conditioning or power windows and has been modified by BTM Motorwerk of San Jose with Mahle short-stroke pistons and cylinders, PMO 46mm carburetors, SSI headers, and host of suspension upgrades by Elephant Racing. Cared for by two owners in the same family from new, this 911SC is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington.
This Targa came factory-finished in Cashmere Beige, an uncommon nonmetallic shade offered from 1978-1980. Equipment includes front fog lights, a Turbo-style front spoiler, a removable black roof panel, an aftermarket SSI exhaust tip, and upgraded 16” Fuchs wheels measuring 7” wide in front and 8” wide in the rear. These wheels come dressed in a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires dated from 2005-2006. The seller states the front bumper, lower front valence, and right lower rear valence have been previously refinished, many rubber seals have been replaced, and several chips have been touched up throughout the exterior. Some chips are noted on the lower right rear rocker panel and the edge of the lower rear valence, additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is appointed with desirable Cork leatherette upholstery and features an aftermarket Wevo shifter, MOMO steering wheel, and factory Sport Seats borrowed from a 1978 911 Turbo. Black carpet floor mats have been fitted and the sound system has been upgraded with an Alpine head unit.
The air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine was modified by BTM Motorwerk in San Jose, California, including Mahle Motorsports short-stroke 9.5:1 pistons and cylinders, PMO 46mm carburetors, and SSI headers. The powertrain was further tuned and modified by Jerry Woods Enterprises including Garretson Enterprises cams, a completely rebuilt transmission, resurfaced flywheel, and re-jetted carburetors throated down to 40mm for improved low-end torque. The brake calipers have been rebuilt and paired with new pads and rotors. The suspension was upgraded by Elephant Racing with larger diameter torsion and sway bars, new Bilstein shocks, modified front struts, and a corner balance and alignment. The seller states extensive records are available dating back to the car’s original purchase.
This sale will include owner’s manuals and a clean title.

@Roma being a 44 year old Porsche and the last owner said it was never re-painted while he and his dad owned it since new. And that it had some paint work on the valance and bumper and minor touch ups, I thought capturing multiple points on the panels would demonstrate that we believe the last owner was correct as the paint shows well and is a unique color.
Looks like a nice car for sure…..but 75 of 232 pics for paint thickness? Am I missing something?

Hi...trying to understand the PMO/Carb work and piston and cylinders. Are you saying they took the 46mm throttle bodies and narrowed them down to 40mm? Or are you just suggesting they used a 40mm choke/venturi? If they actually narrowed them down, how did they add mass internally to do this..? I have heard of the throttle bodies being bored to go larger. On the P&C you state it used short stroke mahle P&C's, is this still a 3.0 or these short stroked up to 3.2l? The car came as a 3.0L, so the short stroke comment without changing displacement throwing me off a little. Regardless a very nice car. id like a SC targa so will be watching. Whether this is a 3.0 or a 3.2 short stroke its going to be a blast to drive.

@Carrerachas Thank you for your questions, we did not get the original window sticker, the 2nd owner's father purchase new in '78 and he did not know what happened to it, and because he knew the car since new, never ordered a COA from Porsche. He never truly intended on parting with the car. Transaxle/gear box was rebuilt when the motor was, about 20k mile ago, and we have extensive records for the car. Clutch is excellent and really fun to drive with the Wevo shifter.

Very nice. I'm the owner of a '78 targa in copper brown metallic with cork interior. These early SC's provide a nimble involving experience and this particular specimen checks all the best boxes. What's been done and preserved here would be expensive to recreate.
I love this color combo. I haven't seen it in person but from the pics, the condition appears exceptional. SSI's/exhaust is a must on these SC's not to mention this one has the carbs and many other nice upgrades. I suspect this car will fetch ATM.
