This 1978 Porsche 911SC is finished in Guards Red over a Black interior and benefits from an engine overhaul completed in 2015 which included an upgraded 3.2-liter displacement. The car also features 17” Fuchs-style wheels, a Magnaflow exhaust, a fender-mounted oil cooler, a Nardi steering wheel, a rear spoiler, an aftermarket Alpine stereo, and a Wevo shifter. This 911SC was acquired by the seller in 2022 and is now being offered for auction out of Tennessee.

This 911SC is finished in Guards Red with a black Targa roll hoop, a removable roof panel, black rear fender stone guards, a front chin spoiler, and a Carrera rear spoiler that was installed under prior ownership. Other equipment includes a heated glass rear window, body-colored headlight rings, a fender-mounted antenna, and aftermarket 17” Fuchs-style wheels dressed in Yokohama Advan Fleva tires from 2018-2019. The seller notes that the car was refinished in Guards Red from its original Black color under prior ownership, the Targa top was refurbished in 2015, and some stone chips are present on the front fascia. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the driver is greeted by a Black interior featuring a three-spoke Nardi steering wheel and an upgraded Wevo shifter. Other accessories include power-adjustable front seats, power windows and door locks, a heater, a locking glovebox, a quartz clock, and an Alpine CD stereo paired with upgraded Pioneer speakers. The seller notes a maintenance record shows the odometer was inoperative in 2015 and the car’s total mileage is unknown.

The air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine was rebuilt by Protech Motorsports of Greenville, South Carolina in 2015 which included new pistons and a 3.2-liter displacement increase. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. A new clutch assembly was installed in 2015 and Turbo tie rods were fitted under previous ownership along with an aftermarket front strut tower brace, a Magnaflow exhaust, and a fender-mounted oil cooler.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a car cover, some documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I'm only selling this car because I recently bought a 911 GT3 and with 3 small kids and just a 2-car garage, I simply don't have the time to enjoy this car as much as I would like to. It's always run great for me, starts right up, and everyone who's driven it or worked on it has said it is a very good and solid example of this era of 911 Targa. It doesn't need anything, just get in, start it up, and enjoy!”

For CA smog this would prob need a smog pump and catalytic converter.

@SocalRS The exhaust is a custom system based on a Magnaflow exhaust. I do not believe it has a catalytic converter. I really can't say if it would be a problem to smog it in CA or not.

  • SocalRS (registered bidder) 4 months, 3 weeksago

Do you know of any modifications to the exhaust/catalytic system? Would also like to know of it would be a challenge to smog in CA.

@ozumstein I really can't say! It's a good-running car and was registered in Arizona before, so I think for its age it should be allowable.

  • ozumstein (registered bidder) 4 months, 3 weeksago

there’s no way for this to pass california smog emissions right? :(

@Koolbilly123 No, I don't have the original shifter. The shifter that's currently in the car is a Wevo shifter that feels and looks great! I'm told it's a great improvement over the original, and the workmanship is excellent!

  • 911Targa78 (seller) 4 months, 3 weeksago

@Avinaashb I have the receipt, sure, but unfortunately I can't upload it today. In December 2022 it got a new reman starter due to a slight grind and it also got a new plastic bushing on the throttle linkage since the gas pedal was rattling slightly. Other than that just an oil change last month!

  • Koolbilly123 (registered bidder) 4 months, 3 weeksago

Hi Seller, any idea if you still have an original shifter assembly with the knob ? This current one was it an upgrade?
    Thx

@maladent The targa top is in excellent condition! It was refurbished for $2,290 in late 2015 by Targa Dan (carsincnj.com). It still looks new and doesn't leak at all!

  • maladent 4 months, 3 weeksago

    Photos/condition of targa top please

@snwmble I don't know the brand, but I know the mechanic working on the car said they appeared to be just a few years old. They're beautiful and have the perfect width and offset for this car, ride height, and tire choice. The stance with these wheels is one of the greatest things about this car's looks!

  • snwmble (registered bidder) 4 months, 3 weeksago

Hi, do you happen to know the specs of the wheels & branding of them? Thanks.

  • 911Targa78 (seller) 4 months, 4 weeksago

I've just uploaded paint meter photos and some photos of the documentation to the gallery.

Hi everyone and welcome to my auction! I'm here to answer any questions you may have about my lovely 1978 Targa. It's really the best looking G body I've ever seen. The stance is absolutely perfect with no scraping or wheel rub, and it's a strong runner with no issues. I'm only selling it because I don't have space or time to enjoy it. I'll upload paint meter photos and some photos of the documentation soon. I bought it last year out of Phoenix Arizona where it was taken care of and given a clean bill of health by Patrick Motorsports. Since then I've only put about 1k miles on it and I've always started it up every couple weeks at least. I've never had any issues. It's been taken care of by Quick Everett's Garage here in Chattanooga and has spent the last couple months in their showroom. The car is so beautiful that it was featured in the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival this year. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see or know!
