We are pleased to introduce this stunning 1978 Porsche 911SC finished in the rarely seen color of Arrow Blue over a Cork perforated leather interior. Originally delivered at Island Porsche/Audi in New York, this first-year 911SC has been carefully looked after by its original owner from new. Having been garage-kept its entire life while accumulating just over 29k miles, this SC is accompanied by the original window sticker as well as records and documentation dating back to the original purchase. A true collector’s item, this remarkable 911SC is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This SC is finished in the rare and highly sought-after nonmetallic shade of Arrow Blue. The paint is said to remain in very nice condition overall with only minor cosmetic imperfections. Within the last year, the car was professionally polished and treated to a ceramic coating, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings. This early 911SC features a single driver’s side mirror, a factory front spoiler, an optional rear window wiper, yellow-tinted front fog lights, black stone guards, and original 16” Fuchs wheels dressed in Continental Extreme Contact tires dated from 2018.
Inside, the cabin has been factory appointed with desirable Cork perforated leather. The condition of the interior is described to be like-new with the dashboard and seats remaining nearly perfect. A factory Blaupunkt stereo is equipped, and factory options listed on the original window sticker include an engine compartment light, a leather-covered steering wheel, a center console, an electric sliding roof, and power windows. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be functioning properly.
This 911SC carries an air-cooled 3.0 L flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox that delivers 180 HP to the rear wheels. Some popular upgrades have been installed over the years including Turbo tie rods, Turbo lower valve covers, a cat-bypass, and an aftermarket sport muffler (original muffler also included). Routine service is said to have been addressed by the original owner and this SC is reported to be in very strong driving condition with a collection of maintenance records included as well as an original dealer-stamped service log.

I've been around these cars for a really long time and don't recall even seeing an arrow blue SC ever..........definitely extremely cool!
Rust proofing/under coating done by the original selling dealer was very popular on European cars in the 1970's and considered to be a value added option - there are no negative side effects from this - does not detract from the car in any way and actually would have benefited any car that was driven.

@356rehab as far as I can see there are no drilled holes. The door has factory weep holes for water drainage. The underside has not drill marks nor would there be any reason to drill the floor to add rust preventing material.

@bannedfromESR I am sorry I can not provide you the smoking gun you are looking for. You seem to have great distrust for dealers and genuine sellers. Perhaps you were burned once or twice. I find your approach to be very unfair to myself and the owner. You have made claims but have not qualified yourself to the bidders. What would you like me to do? I have provide pictures, video, the events that resulted in the door ding. Tell me your solution to calm your fears.

@Imperial Cesar, I can appreciate that you're simply representing the seller and ultimately can't offer insight as to what happened 30 years ago but inventing some flimsy excuse is disingenuous.
The color combo and low mileage are breathtaking but let's not pretend there won't be surprises for a buyer. The Swiss-cheesing of the body for rust proofing would kill it for me. (STILL can't believe in the interest of preventing "corrosion" back in the day some GENIUS thought that drilling twenty 3/4" holes throughout the body was a good idea!)

Special indeed. Just came across this auction and I don’t think I’ve seen a more exciting color combo on an SC. Even with the resident ballbusters doing what they do, the car looks to be in very nice condition. Some new owner is going to be smiling ear to ear in a few days. I wish it were me. GLTA

@bannedfromESR I wish I had a better answer for your concern. It was 1980 and I am not familiar with that shop and how they did work. I can only share the facts that I have and the testimony given to me by the owner.
To all the bidder the shop that performed the door ding repair was Reutters Coachworks in New Jersey. I do not know if they will have a record but the work was done in 1980

@Neddy We have been completely upfront and provided the full story as to why the door was painted and why there is overspray. We even included the shop that did the work. I am a 5 star rated dealer and my reputation is invaluable to me. When we represent a car we investigate any irregularity before committing to represent it. There is no conspiracy here the owner and I are presenting the bidders with all the facts and the true story.
@356rehab Looking down the car the paint appears to be original but based on the owners statement and the paint meter we know it was painted. They did a good job except for the over spray in the door jam the can be cleaned up.

So, clearly the driver doors been painted so looking down the driver door from both ends is the paint wavy or is it impossible to tell the door has been painted other then by paint meter? Also is the orange peel the same front fender , driver door into the driver rear fender?
@Imperial I have to agree with @bannedfromESR2 and @GaryWC. There's likely a hidden story. I don't see anyone attempting to throw shade on this auction. It's a valid question, especially at the current bid price. Any seller should expect these types of inquiries, in this type of auction forum, and be ready to answer transparently. Better yet, any "story" should be clearly communicated up front in the ad. Respectfully, you've missed the mark IMO.

I too am confident the door paint tag area looked different and more pristine (like many other parts of this wonderful car) when the car departed Stuttgart. There is probably a story to be told about how it came to appear as it does, it would be helpful to hear the story, that's all.

Unfortunately you feigning outrage doesn't explain why a door badge would be masked off if a door was painted. (It also doesn't explain the two gouges to the left of the badge.) When a door is re-sprayed because of a ding the entire jamb area would be covered and masked, not just the badge. Please try harder.
@bannedfromESR the reason the door ding repair is related to the overspray on the badge is because the badge is located on the driver door jam which happens to be the door that was painted. We are not try to hind anything. In fact in a previous comment I gave you the name of the shop that did the repair. Feel free to look them up and inquire for yourself. Respectfully, please do not cast unsubstantiated doubt in this auction. This car was never in an accident and is in incredible condition.
@Imperial @Imperial, with due respect what does a door re-paint from a "ding" have to do with a goobered up paint badge? The badge looks like it has been poorly masked off at one time and those two gouges to the left look like perhaps it was more than just a "door ding"? Was there collision damage to the jamb?
@Neddy the market will determine the price and a true enthusiast will pay whatever fee is asked to have their dream car. You never feel that you have over paid if you got what you wanted. My personal option is that what you fell is expensive today will be considered cheap in the future.
@GaryWC Unfortunately, the lower valance was cut for the dual exhaust but it is a bolt on item that can be replace with a stock valance. The owner will be providing the original muffler.
@bannedfromESR In a previous comment I explained the reason for the paint on the driver door as well as the shop that performed the work. Basically it was a repair for a door ding. As for the the interior, you are correct, after having a discussion with the owner he did confirm that the steering wheel is leather and the dash and seats are vinyl. This vehicle was serviced by a veteran Porsche Mechanic with what appears to be 30 plus year of experience. Please ensure that you tag the seller when making a comment. I will be notified as soon as you make the comment and will attempt to respond quickly .
Really nice lower mileage SC...someone is going to really over-pay for it though. It's already very high at the current bid IMO.
@Harboc Definitely vinyl. No leather whatsoever in this interior except for the steering wheel. Un-cracked vinyl cork dashboard is GOLD.
What an absolutely fantastic color combo. Obviously needs some attention to bring it back to stock. (Engine compartment pad, new rear apron, stock muffler... and the fog lights need to be thrown in the dumpster.)
Seller, what's the story with the hinky paint badge? It has overspray on it but it also looks like a blind man attempted to remove the rivets?
Always suspicious about the level of professional service when I see an oil strainer plate installed incorrectly.

@dmccart812 in 1980 the owner was in a car park far away from other vehicles and someone intentionally decided to park next to him. The result was a door ding on the driver door. If paintless dent removal would have been around back then it would have been a quick fix, but in 1980 the only solution was to paint the door. After metering the paint I do not see signs of a blend but I will say the paint was matched to perfection.
GREAT looking car, period. Personally, I'd spend a winter under the car making it look as good as the rest. Then again, one could spend the winter driving it :)

Do you know why drivers door was repainted and approximately how long ago? Was it blended into the fenders at all? Thanks
@CJ5A I had a discussion with the original owner regarding the headlights and fog lights. The Porsche came with those headlights but the trim was chrome and he decided to replace them with color matched trims. The fog lights were installed by Island Porsche prior to delivery per the owners request. I hope this clears up any questions you had. Please let me know if you have any further concerns.
@CJ5A in reviewing the extensive service records I see no indication that this cars has ever had any head stud issues.
@Imperial As to your reply to chain tensioner question, the fog lights are not original nor are the head lights.

@CJ5A the owner has chosen to maintain the originality of this perfectly preserved 911SC. A popular SC upgrade is to add pressure feed chain tensioners, but it has not been done to this Porsche.

My 1983 Targa had this same interior. The older perforated Tan leather has a much cooler patina, darker and rich, than the later models with Tan , Cork or Champagne.
The low miles, condition and after market exhaust should allow this handsome Porsche to do well here.
