Up for auction is this eye-catching 1978 Porsche 911SC finished in Metallic Rose over a black interior.  Prior to the current owner’s purchase in 2018, this SC underwent a custom body transformation with steel fender flares and 930 slant nose-style rocker panels, air intakes, rear spoiler, and front bumper.  Since acquiring the car, the seller commissioned a full top-end engine rebuild as well as a Carrera chain tensioner upgrade.  Having traveled approximately 3k miles since the engine rebuild, this 911SC is now being offered in excellent driver-grade condition by its seller in Washington state, while showing approximately 182k miles on the odometer.

This 911SC is said to have been refinished in a Metallic Rose color at least 10 years ago under previous ownership.  During this time, wide steel fender flares were equipped along with slant nose-style rocker panels, air intakes, a front bumper, and a Tea Tray rear spoiler.  The original color of the car is believed to have been Silver, and the paint is said to be very well presented except for some chips on the lower front bumper.  The genuine Fuchs wheels have been refinished and painted to match the exterior, and the seller notes that wheel spacers have been installed for a proper-looking fitment.  Upgraded LED headlight bulbs have been equipped and a new Rennline roof rack will also accompany the sale.

Inside, the cabin is said to remain in very good condition with some of the upholstery believed to have been redone under previous ownership.  A Porsche crest has been applied to the steering wheel, the inner door handles have been upgraded, an aftermarket radio has been installed, and custom brushed silver placards have been affixed behind the rear seats.  An intermittent light is said to come on the dashboard which the seller had professionally diagnosed and found to be of no immediate concern. A battery voltage meter has been added inside the glovebox and the seller confirms all other gauges and accessories are said to be functioning properly.

This 911SC is equipped with an air-cooled 3.0 L flat-six engine that sends 180 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.  In 2019 at 179,921 miles, the engine was removed for a full top-end rebuild.  Other noteworthy recent items include a Carrera chain tensioner upgrade and new CV boots as well as new rear axle bearings and a clutch adjustment performed earlier in 2020.  Documentation is included for all of the mechanical work done under the current ownership, and this SC is said to be in strong running order.

This sale will include a tool pouch, a set of 2 keys, a spare tire, some assorted spare parts, service records, a Rennline roof rack, and a clean title.  With its bold styling and recently overhauled engine, this unique 911SC will make an excellent air-cooled driver for any avid enthusiast.

@991.1GT3 I do. I don’t think we need to rush this. You can see our car anytime after auction is done. This site isn’t going to sell this car. Few lookers few bids mostly lowballers. Send me your number via private message if you are interested.

Hmmm...one person bidding against themself. Not sure that’s how auctions usually work. Interesting strategy I guess.

Do you have any service records from the recent rebuild? Was the clutch replaced at the same time? Can you show the car this weekend?

I’m local. Can I see the car in person?

  • Arnon1 (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Tuffyearl Hi, thank you for your interest. Yes it is original engine. Rebuilt was done roughly 3,000 miles ago. Previous owner who built this car over 15 years ago had told me that original exterior color was silver. And interior was black. Previous owner picked custom color Rose Metallic which we thought was interesting and my wife loves the color. We get a lot of compliments mainly female enthusiasts. Only vin on the car is metal tag on A Pilar. Vin is 911820421. Thank you for asking.

Is this the original motor? What was the original color exterior and interior? Can you share the actual vin do we can check the vehicle history? Thanks!
