We are pleased to present this exceptional 1978 Porsche 924. Presently a 2-owner car and a part of a rotating collection, this investment-grade 1978 example has been kept in outstanding original condition with only 7,955 miles displayed on the odometer. This example especially built for its original owner and delivered by Klinger Porsche/Audi in Lake Forest Illinois. Complete with its original factory break-in procedure sticker affixed to the windshield, this incredibly well-preserved 924 is now being offered by its seller in New York accompanied by original books, tools, an unused spare tire and toolkit.
The Black (041) finish is reported to be in exceptional original condition (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). The undercarriage was undercoated when new to protect against corrosion. A design originally contracted by Volkswagen through Porsche, the 924 is characterized by its flip-up headlights and large glass rear hatch. The original 14” 8-spoke wheels are factory finished with color-matched centers and are currently dressed in Cooper CS4 touring tires.
The Black leatherette interior is said to be nearly flawless while retaining all of its original specifications. This car was ordered with an interesting array of options including a leather steering wheel, power windows, air conditioning, a power antenna and radio delete (factory wiring in place). All gauges and accessories are reported to be in good working order.
Representing Porsche’s first water-cooled transaxle sports car, this 924 is equipped with a 2.0 L inline 4-cylinder engine. Featuring Bosch CIS fuel injection as well as a catalytic converter which was introduced for the U.S. market in mid 1977, this 924 is capable of sending 110 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual gearbox. The catalytic converter reduced the need for restrictive emissions equipment used on earlier versions. The timing belt and water pump are said to have been replaced at approximately 5600 miles, and the seller indicates this 924 to be in excellent running order.
This sale will include the original owner’s manual, service book, 2 master keys, a glove box key, a plaque with the first owner's name, an unused spare tire and tool kit. This highly original, low-mileage 924 presents an extremely rare opportunity for any discerning Porsche collector.

There is a notarized statement of fact from the previous owner stating mileage when he purchased and when he sold the car to me.
The listed mileage is the actual mileage of the car.

@cjscott_944 Wheels came that way from Porsche (you can find pictures of a Sebring edition car wheel and you will see texture and meet point of the black and silver are the same) - spare wheel also has a black center and has its original tire which has never been removed/rebalanced.
Keep in mind that this it is a VW wheel that was painted 44 years ago.
If the next owner wants the wheels perfect he can have them re-done to black or silver centers (I would keep it original).
In looking at the photos again this morning, I really studied the wheels this time. Based on flaking in one of the photos, and the edge line in another, do we really think these came from the factory that way? I know that the black wheels were an option, but the photos are telling me that the previous owner had them painted that way, especially since underneath the flaking is the silver wheel. Did the previous owner mention anything one way or the other?

@cjscott_944 Paint is original - it has been measured.
In one of your responses in the comments below, you stated original paint. I just wanted to confirm that you actually measured each panel to verify. Because the miles are so low, I don't want to assume that the paint is original, as I was burned in the past on trip to see a car that only had 3,500 miles; and when I got there and measured, rear quarter panel was indeed repainted. That was a loooong ride home. So, did you measure?
@cjscott_944 The car had an oil service earlier this year - has not been driven much since (less than 150 miles).
If the next owner plans to drive the car actively they can go trough it to the extent that would make them happy and comfortable.
That being said, @PlaPan, since you don't have any service records, did you all take care of all of the fluid flushes not knowing when they were last done?
Hey @ninpo4me. I agree with you on the time frame for a belt and pump. Just as a heads-up, I believe this 2.0L Audi engine is a non-interfence engine. So it should not be catastrophic if it were to fail. But still another thing to keep an eye on with this age car.
@PlaPan do you know what date that was replaced? Timing belts last 3-5yrs when not used and water pumps around 4-6 years. Regardless of mileage the belts and water pump dry out with age and as this is an interference engine I wouldn’t want anything to happen.
@ninpo4me As mentioned in the description - timing belt and water pump were done at around 5600 miles as preventive maintenance - the factory recommended interval is 45k miles - this one has less than 2500 miles on it and would not need to be done unless the next owner chooses to do so for his own piece of mind.

@cjscott_944 Timing belt water pump were done in 2011 - date code on tires is 2008.
Despite the cars low miles, the timing belt and water pump need to be replaced at regular intervals. Please provide confirmation if this has been done. Thank you

Do you know around what date the timing belt and water pump were done? Also, what is the date code on the tires?
@ninpo4me There are 110 pictures posted that cover most of what you are asking to see - sounds like you are not able to see them?
The Porsche is original paint, damage and rust free, all gaps are as they were when new in 1978.
The mechanical performance is outstanding and as expected from a 8k mile car - it is as close as one can get to driving a new Series I 924 in 2020.
What is included is listed in the description and pictured in the photo gallery - there are no service records.

There are only a few pictures on this posting. So if you could gather photos of the under-carriage, door gaps, under the rear carpet, exhaust system. Detailed photos of the interior, wheel wells would be great to. Lastly a video of the car starting cold, running thru all the gears and braking.
