This 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe was custom ordered in the Paint to Sample color of Stone Grey Metallic over a Silver-Grey Special Leather interior with optional heated Sport Seats. The car is said to have remained with its current owner for the past 35 years and features an upgraded turbocharger as well as a short shifter kit, aftermarket speakers, boxed rockers, and a tell-tale boost gauge. Showing approximately 52k miles on the odometer and maintained by the same technician for over three decades, this 930 is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Colorado.

This Turbo comes finished in Stone Grey Metallic (Steingraumetallic, 693) which is designated as a custom Paint to Sample option by factory color code “L999”.  Equipment includes a front valence with integrated spoiler and fog lights, a rear window wiper, black stone guards, and third brake light mounted atop the Tea Tray rear spoiler. The wide fenders are complemented by Slant Nose-style boxed rocker panels and factory 16” Fuchs wheels with polished lips and colored center crests. The car is said to have always been garage-kept and only ever driven in the rain once during the current ownership, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this Turbo showcases Silver Grey Special Leather (HQ) upholstery including optional heated and electrically adjustable Sport Seats with deviated piping.  Other factory equipment includes an elevated steering wheel hub, air conditioning, and an electric sunroof. The original Blaupunkt radio remains in place and is paired with aftermarket speakers in the doors and rear shelf.  An aftermarket tell-tale boost gauge has been fitted and the seller notes the headliner is slightly stretched towards the end of the zipper.

A turbocharged and intercooled 3.3-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 282 HP and 289 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The owner reports an upgraded turbocharger and short shifter kit to have been installed and states all maintenance has been carried out by the same technician including annual oil changes regardless of mileage.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals and a clean title.

@wdn a lot of time has passed, there is no sign of any impact damage anywhere on the car and the paint is in beautiful condition. I’m happy to have anyone inspect the vehicle.

The car had gotten scratched or keyed at one point, the car has been owned by the same owner since 1992.

Seeing if u can shed some light since this is a one owner car, can owner explain why fender has been painted? Based on numbers shown, maybe both have been shot
A little clarification would be helpful

  • BlueChip (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@FLPcar I have uploaded some photos of records that are with the car, recent work is well documented (new tires, alignment, 6 pin CD Box replacement etc). There are some records dating back to the early 90s but nothing super extensive. The service file is thin as far as what is with the car currently. We are trying to locate additional records around the house. The buyer will be in receipt of anything that is found for it.

Seller, a few have asked if you have service records and you were to look. No posting or reply yet. Also, what level of overall historical records are with the car. As stated, the car has been with the current owner for over 35 years and same technician for over 30 years.
Does the owner have records since day 1? i.e. window sticker, bill of sale, service and repair records (i.e. painted fender repair and why). This information will be very helpful. Thank you.

@wdn the body is in beautiful and rust free condition. According to the paint meter; the right front fender shows that it may have been resprayed at one point but there are no signs of impact damage. The car presents beautifully!

Seller clearly said below - “This car will be sold *with* not only a passing emissions test but ALSO with the factory stock muffler and emissions equipment that was included with the car when new”. (Emphasis mine).

  • Avsfan 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Concours No, because I don't have answers to any of my questions. All we got was a "guess" that it may be the turbocharger. If so, that is easily diagnosed and fixed. If the cause of the 30-year emissions problem is known, then I need to know 1) what exactly it is, and 2) why the owner hasn't just fixed the darn thing over the years. Too expensive? If the cause is not known, why hasn't it been diagnosed? According to the Carfax, this car hasn't been registered for the street since 2007, though there have been 8 attempts to pass emissions since then, all failed. Logically, the owner wanted to get this thing registered over the last 15 years, otherwise there would be no need to get 8 emissions tests.

I need clear, detailed, reasonable answers before I will know what I'm bidding on. I live in the Denver area where our emissions standards have been adopted from California's CARB, the strictest in the country. No way I'm bidding on a car that I will have trouble registering and/or fixing.

  • Concours (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Avsfan Now that your questions have been answered, should we expect to see you fiercely bidding on this one?

@Quackbury I didn't try to cast shade on the car, I tried to cast light on it. I do happen to think it's worthy of discussion. If mention of the car's troubles were pointed out up front in the auction description instead of just the typical "clean Carfax" comment, I wouldn't have felt compelled to say anything at all. As hoped, my comments elicited a response from the seller.

  • Nonissan (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@bisonracing1 - could you please answer my questions below as well as the one somebody asked about service records?

  • detaildivision (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

Beautiful example, GLWS! Regarding emissions, imagine my shock when I saw an iconic turbo car from the 80's that hit a snag with current standard emissions testing. Shocked I tell you. Reality is that this is par for the course, nothing wrong with the car, and as stated REAL buyers know and understand how this works. I hear Montana is beautiful this time of year if you're a CA resident

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

This is an awesome car. Not every state is as strict as California. Here in Texas after 25 years your state inspection is $7.50. All they check if ever, lights, tires, horn turn signals. They are supposed to drive it around the shop to test brakes but many don’t do that. Yes you have to show them your insurance. Anyway myself and a few Porsche friends have benefited from the California laws because we have recently purchased cars were the owners were tired of the hassle that it was to smog the cars in California. This is a beautiful example. GLWTS

  • BlueChip (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@avsfan and everybody else. These cars enjoy more fuel with bigger turbos hence possibly not making emissions every time. This car will be sold with not only a passing emissions test but ALSO with the factory stock muffler and emissions equipment that was included with the car when new. Please relax ?

  • t2racing (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@JAG1033 PCARMARKET and the community on this platform have been outstanding.

  • JAG1033 (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Quackbury I enjoy the dialog, could save someone some heartache, not with this car specifically, but with any car sold on PCar, to a less experienced buyer.

  • Quackbury (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@AVSFAN. Do you have a personal vendetta against this car or this seller? There are plenty of adult informed buyers on here capable of making their ownvinformed decisions. Why feel such a need to cast shade at this GLORIOUS and UNIQUE one owner 930?

  • Avsfan 1 year, 9 monthsago

I'll follow up by saying that if the seller comes forward with a reasonable explanation for the emissions failures, maybe the concerns can be mitigated.

Going just by the Carfax, the last time the car passed emissions and the registration was renewed was 2007. However, it was attempted to pass emissions since then 8 times and failed all of them. As I said, if we can know the reason, it may settle the concerns.

  • Avsfan 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Flightlevels Well, it's true that it wouldn't be a problem for a buyer in a place where emissions aren't tested, but there are still two issues even for you - first, someday you will probably want to sell it, and if it has emissions difficulty, it may be difficult to get rid of, since most populated areas in the US have emissions requirements. So your pool of potential buyers may be pretty small. And second, the fact that it has emissions problems consistently since 1991 means that something is very wrong with this car that probably can't easily be fixed. That should concern any buyer.

  • Flightlevels 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Avsfan This I’m certain would only apply to a sale within Colorado. Lots of states have no emissions testing including my own state so I couldn’t care less about an emissions failure.

  • TangerineT (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

    @bisonracing1

Other than the manuals shown, any pile of service records to confirm mileage to be original?

Do you have a COA or something to indicate matching numbers?

Did you keep the original rockers? Compression numbers?

Everything work properly, such as electrics, sunroof, AC/heat, etc.?

    Great color.

  • Lexday47 (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

I would guess the emissions issues may only be relevant in Colorado or California, I know Ohio has no emissions testing requirements any more

  • Avsfan 1 year, 9 monthsago

The Carfax shows an extraordinary history of failed emissions tests. The last 8 tests in Colorado have failed, and the car hasn't passed since 2007. No wonder it's up for sale. However, both buyers and sellers must be aware that, according to Colorado law, it is illegal to sell a car without a valid and current emissions certificate. The law specifically requires the seller to provide this certificate to the buyer. Since it hasn't passed since 2007, it's something every bidder should be aware of. Examine the Carfax and judge for yourself.

  • Nonissan (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

    @bisonracing1 - good looking 930!

    any paint work?

are the boxed rockers factory or aftermarket?

anything else aftermarket besides turbo, shifter, and speakers?

what are the specs on the aftermarket turbo? is there any sort of aftermarket ecu with it?

    good luck with the sale!
