Considered among the most capable and robust off-road vehicles of all time, the 40-Series Land Cruiser was first produced in 1960 to rival the American Jeep and British Land Rover. This 1978 example is said to have been the subject of an extensive frame-off restoration and mechanical overhaul. Finished in yellow over a black vinyl interior, this 1978 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser features a 2F inline-six engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, along with a Rough Country suspension kit, KM3 BFGoodrich tires, and more.
This FJ40 has been refinished in yellow with a white top and front grille as part of the restoration. Details include upgraded LED headlights, a steel front bumper with a Rough Country winch, a high-lift jack, a rear swing-out tire carrier with a full-sized spare, and Toyota Land Cruiser fender badges. It rides on black-finished 15″ steel wheels mounted with new BFGoodrich tires.
The cabin features front bucket seats and inward-facing rear jump seats trimmed in black vinyl with matching door panels. A custom vinyl-trimmed center console houses cup holders, a rear-facing speaker, USB ports, and a storage compartment. Other amenities include a dashboard-mounted touchscreen head unit with Bluetooth connectivity and front and rear camera views, a surround sound system, a new air conditioning and heating system, and manual roll-up windows.
Power comes from a Toyota 4.2-liter single-carburetor 2F inline-six engine, generating up to 135 HP and 200 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels through a 4-speed OEM manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Performance features include a new Rough Country suspension kit, a 2.5” lift kit, 4-disc brakes, and power steering. The seller states that the engine has been completely overhauled, and the oil and filters have been replaced.
