Available for auction is this 1979 Daytona Sebring finished in white with a black vinyl interior. Set on a modified Volkswagen floor pan and utilizing its drivetrain, this Daytona Sebring harkens back to an era of exotic coach-built custom kit cars. Believed to have been hand-assembled by a small Midwest company called Custom Coach Builders, this Daytona Sebring is designated with serial number 185 and features an aircraft-style canopy roof, fiberglass bodywork, pop up headlights, and quad-tip exhaust finishers. Having reportedly undergone an engine and transmission rebuild in 2009, this Daytona Sebring is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
The fiberglass bodywork of this Daytona Sebring comes finished in a white gelcoat. Design features include a flying buttress rear pillar design and a unique canopy-style roof that sits atop the car and lifts up to provide access for passengers, similar to the 1970 Ferrari 512S Modulo concept by Pininfarina. The seller notes minor stress cracks in the fiberglass around the front bumper, additional images are provided in the gallery. The vintage 4-lug wheels come dressed in Cooper Cobra Radial GT tires dated from 2017.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black vinyl upholstery with a pair of bucket seats. Features include a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, a suite of VDO instrumentation, a carpet dashboard cover, toggle switchgear, and a period radio with side-mounted speakers. The seller notes that there is little wear visible in the cabin and that all gauges, lights, and accessories remain fully functional.
Power comes from an air-cooled Volkswagen flat-four engine which drives the rear wheel through a 4-speed manual gearbox. The Daytona Sebring uses a Volkswagen floor pan modified to sit lower and accommodate the custom fiberglass bodywork. The seller reports complete engine and transmission rebuilds were carried out in 2009 with approximately 500 miles covered since.
Representing a bygone era of striking design and futuristic charm, this Daytona Sebring is ready to be appreciated by a new owner.

@Manpot Good question, Manpot. It the electrics fail completely the side windows easily pop out and are large enough for easy exit. By the way the car has a brand new battery, so that should not be a problem.
I pfresume the canopy is electric powered..but what happens if it fails..flat battery etc..are you then trapped inside??
I presume the top is electric powered..what happens if it fails to open..flat battery etc. Are you then trapped inside??
