Offered for auction is this 1979 Mercedes-Benz W116 300SD finished in Black over a Bamboo leather interior. This 300SD was acquired from its original owner out of Fairfield County, Connecticut, and is accompanied by the original service record books, owner’s manuals, and sales material. Recently, this W116 has received new tires, brakes, belts, hoses, fuses, a valve adjustment, new valve cover gaskets, new air conditioning system components, a brake booster, master cylinder, and more. This coveted turbodiesel W116 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey showing just over 76k miles on the odometer.

This W116 comes finished in Black (040U) with chrome trim and custom gold pinstriping. Equipment includes a power sliding sunroof, an automatic antenna, heat-insulating glass, and U.S. regulation 5-MPH safety bumpers. The original silver-painted 14” Bundt wheels are mounted with newer Hankook tires. The seller reports the rear lid and right quarter panel to have been refinished and notes a small dent atop the left front fender as well as some minor scratches on the front passenger side door. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The interior is upholstered in tan Bamboo leather with wood inlays across the dashboard. Amenities include central locking, power windows, a Becker cassette stereo, and automatic climate control. The driver’s side window regulator has been replaced and the seller notes the leather surfaces show minimal signs of wear.

The 3.0L OM617 turbodiesel inline-five cylinder engine was factory rated at 110 HP and 160 lb.-ft of torque, delivering power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. In preparation for sale, the brakes have been replaced along with the engine belts, hoses, and fuses, in addition to the valve cover gaskets, air conditioning compressor and resistor, brake booster, and master cylinder. A valve adjustment was performed and the fuel tank was removed, cleaned, and resurfaced while a new fuel pump and filter were installed.

This sale will include a clean title.

I agree re: BAT. The “peanut gallery” can be very bothersome. There are those who nitpick everything are generally those who have never bought a car on BAT, yet have over 1,000 comments. I have bought 5 cars on BAT. I was treated rudely when I tried to sell one. It’s a shame it can be a good site, but they have some employees that need courses on customer service and car knowledge. They are very successful, so they are doing something right.

@Gerard-GT3 Quite candidly I don't think you (BaT) have ANY room to discredit anyone. I'll give you an example as to why . Some time ago I submitted a car that I have personally known for nearly 5 decades. Yes, 50 years! Not only do I KNOW the car, I also KNOW 4 of its owners personally, all friends of mine. By the time YOU made YOUR changes to MY write up, it wasn't even the same car... Apparently YOU THINK you knew the car better than I. Then came the B.S. "know it all" comments from YOUR peanut gallery..... classy stuff.

Personally, I think your site is pure crap as are the many comments which you allow, some of which can ultimately kill the sale of a car. I have been in the car business 42 years. There is not one person on this planet who I will not go out of the way to tell, not to do business with you. NOT ONE. You have no room to pass judgement on anyone. Those who live in glass houses as it were....

    @porscheklaus
Thank you for taking the stand and your kind words. The team at Pcarmarket listen to facts and truth. I look forward to working with them on this platform. This car is an amazing example of a diesel powered W116

I'll come out and say it, gladly. I don't and wont look at BaT or EVER list a car with them, not ever. My experinces with them has never been good, in fact, I've found those at BaT down right rude. Add the half witted arm chair mental midgets commenting on every damned thing and you have all the reason needed to do business with someone else. Pcar comes to mind.

These guys at Pcar on the other hand are great to work with and absolutely SHINE by comparison!

@GSuttles @GSuttles, we absolutely understand the concern. Our team was aware of the withdrawn auction on another website and had initially declined the vehicle as a result. The seller later reached out in a forthcoming manner and after extensive conversation as well as their agreement to accurately represent the vehicle, we agreed to proceed with the listing. As the previous exchange was between the seller and another auction website, we are in no position to decide what the actual issue was. We feel everyone deserves a chance to sell and establish their own reputation on PCARMARKET. The seller aspires to become a repeat and trusted seller on our platform, and we will be watching the auction closely. Again, thank you for bringing this to light.

    Pcarmarket members
Good morning thank you for you interest. My issues with BAT have nothing too do with this car. This car has a clean title, the car has been throughly inspected and mechanical updates performed with records. If you are serious about the car please come and inspect it thank you

Yes - this is copy and paste from BAT, car was withdrawn on 3/9

    Hello everybody,

We have discovered that the seller of this car is the same person as another seller who was banned from BaT for unethical practices. Full transparency is very important to us. We have no patience for the kind of sneaky behavior this seller is engaging in, and we do not want the eventual winning bidder of this auction to be put in a bad position.

As a result, we feel obligated to withdraw this auction, something we do not ever like to do. Going forward, this seller will no longer be allowed to auction cars or otherwise participate on Bring a Trailer. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate our community’s insistence that BaT sellers live up to the highest standards of honesty and transparency.

PCAR Market -- take serious note of elizabeta comment, as an avid bring a trailer follower, they don't pull a car without cause. Additional inquiries may be prudent.

This appears to be the same car that BAT banned from their auction: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-mercedes-benz-300sd-21/

This is a well documented vehicle. All mechanical updated we performed in preparation for this sale.

    Happy bidding Everyone!
