We are pleased to present this 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo finished in Silver Metallic over a Light Red leather interior.  Originally sold from Neil Huffman Volkswagen Porsche of Louisville, Kentucky, this outstanding 1979 example remained under the care of its original owner for the first 26 years of its life before being acquired by a private collector in New Jersey.  The car was later sold in 2013 to Canepa Motorsports of California where it underwent a thorough mechanical refresh, engine rebuild, and light cosmetic restoration.  It has since been acquired by a prominent collector in New York who has maintained the car to the highest of standards while on display in a climate-controlled facility.  Showing just over 20k miles on the odometer and retaining its numbers matching drivetrain, this exceptionally well-sorted, collector-grade 930 is being offered for auction by its seller out of New York accompanied by binders of records and documentation, the original window sticker, books, tools, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

This Turbo retains nearly all of its original Silver Metallic paint with only the hood and front bumper previously refinished to achieve a concours-level appearance. A detailed record of all work done by Canepa Motorsports is provided for reference in the photo gallery.  This 930 is characterized by its distinctive wide fenders, rubber front air dam, and Tea Tray rear spoiler.  The factory 16” Fuchs wheels have been professionally polished, detailed, and dressed in Michelin Pilot Exalto tires.

Inside, this 930 showcases a striking Light Red leather interior with a matching dashboard and carpeting.  Canepa Motorsports performed rejuvenation of the cabin including reshaping of the driver's seat and the installation of a new rearview mirror, sun visors, and tire pressure decal.  The original Blaupunkt radio remains in place.

This 930 is equipped with its original turbocharged and intercooled 3.3L flat-six engine which sends up to 265 HP to the rear wheels by way of a number matching 4-speed manual gearbox with factory optioned limited-slip differential.  A rebuild of the engine was carried out by Canepa Motorsports along with a refresh of the gearbox with new gaskets, seals, shift bushings, a new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, and more.  The suspension was also thoroughly gone through and refurbished along with the braking and electrical systems as detailed in the provided records.  Since the current owner’s acquisition, this Turbo has been diligently maintained by an in-house Porsche specialist and remains in excellent running order with a newly installed battery and recently replaced ignition CDI module.

This sale will include binders of records and documentation, the original window sticker, books, tools, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.  With its thoroughly documented history and extensive refurbishment by Canepa Motorsports, this remarkable Porsche 930 would be a crown jewel in any classic Porsche collection.

@tommysita For what it’s worth, Ive seen this car in person. First off it is part of a collection that would be considered near perfection regarding each cars condition. Secondly, this car is breathtaking to see and seems to be spectacular in every nook and cranny. Has to be one of if not the nicest 79 turbo in existence.

@tommysita hello, my apologies for the delay. The car is impeccable, no rust of any kind. If you are familiar with these cars, that “bubble” you are referring to is the cover for the torsion bar that sticks out underneath the decal. Hope this helps.

  • EUROsellinc (seller) 3 yearsago

Welcome to the auction for this incredible 930! While there may be some 930's on the market, an opportunity at one of this caliber does not come around too often. Although the photos are great, nothing beats the way this car looks when seeing it in person. It is located at PCARMARKET's headquarters in NY and I welcome anyone in person inspections. They are there Mon-Fri. This is the one of the most documented Porsche vehicles I have ever seen. Happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

  • LiveFromNY (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

That interior appears to be the more desirable Light Red, not Lobster Red.
