This California-spec 1979 Porsche 911SC has been transformed into a widebody Speedster tribute with steel fender flares, a 930 Whale Tail spoiler, double-hump Speedster-style tonneau cover, and gold BBS wheels. It comes finished in Casablanca Beige Metallic over a new Black and Cork interior featuring an upgraded Blaupunkt audio system. Treated to over $12k in recent service, this one-of-a-kind "911SC Speedster" tribute is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia.

The exterior is finished in Casablanca Beige Metallic (463), a rare Porsche color offered on the 911SC and 911 Turbo in 1979. The bodywork has been widened with steel 930 fenders including Slant Nose side air intakes. A Turbo front air dam was also added along with a Turbo Carrera “Whale Tail” rear spoiler. An open-top Speedster look was created by removing the original roof section and installing a Speedster-style tonneau cover with double hump fairings over the rear. An unpainted Strosek hardtop shell will also accompany the sale along with an original glass rear window. The car was completely refinished after the body was modified and the seller describes the paint to be in good overall condition with minimal signs of road-going wear. Recent refurbishments include the installation of a new windshield seal, hood seal, washer nozzle, and wheel spacers. The 16” BBS multi-piece rims feature gold-painted centers, Porsche crested hex caps, and brand-new Falken tires.

The cabin is appointed with new Black and Cork upholstery as well as an upgraded stereo system including new Blaupunkt speakers, amplifier, and retro-style head unit with Bluetooth and USB/AUX connections. New floor mats were also recently fitted. All gauges and accessories are said to remain fully functional.

The air-cooled 3.0L flat-six engine produces up to 180 HP and drives the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. Accompanying invoices from Heinz Sport Car Service show both front wheel hub assemblies replaced in 2021 along with fuel system service, replacement of the left-side heat exchanger, a rebuilt distributor, new oil hoses, refurbished brake calipers, new rear pads and rotors, a new brake master cylinder, and adjustments to the timing, idle, and fuel mixture. Corresponding invoices are provided in the gallery showing other miscellaneous repairs carried out during this time.

This sale will include a clean title, some service records, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a car cover, a removable Strosek hardtop, and a factory glass rear window.

@JDunaway I agree. Would be a gorgeous combination.

@Pcarliebhaber thank you for your question. Yes Heinz did the restoration of the motor for the vehicle. It did spend quite some time there going through the reseal and receiving all the new components.

This car painted in British racing green would be a heavenly spec. Beautifully done car, GLWS

@ABD20152 The reason I'm asking about the mileage is because the four repair orders from Heinz Sport Car Service from March 2021 through June 2021 are all showing the same odometer reading of 63,091. And, the mileage for the auction which is 15 months later states 63,105. That's only a 14-mile difference. Did the car sit at Heinz for the last year and a half?

I can handle most of this conversion but that whaletail just has to go..so wrong on this car. I like the "Speedster" humps and even the side vents..but dont think I would call this a "Speedster Tribute"..more like a Cabster..

  • ABD20152 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Pcarliebhaber to the best of my knowledge it is.

  • Pcarliebhaber (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@ABD20152 I’m curious. Is the odometer showing the actual mileage of the car?

@NickM yes, the windshield would be the final piece for Speedster look, now If you finish the Storek Hard top, it will convert to a hardtop coupe with Factory Rear Glass included.

You say the lower rear subframe was reinforced? How and why? This was a Targa and it has the same chassis as a cab anyway.

@NickM The Hardtop is pictured in the Ad. It lines up perfectly with the current windscreen. Thank you for your comment.

  • NickM (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@ABD20152 It would have to be the Strosek cabriolet hardtop though... not the Strokes Speedster hardtop. Need the Speedster windscreen to fit a Strosek speedster hardtop. ;o)

  • ABD20152 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@JMS935 Yes, i would say the windshield would be the final spec for the Speedster Tribute. This can also become a hardtop 911 if the Storek shell is completed for the next owner.

  • ABD20152 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Bruce914 The Lower Rear Floor Subframe has been re-enforce support.

  • JMS935 1 year, 8 monthsago

Where does speedster tribute come from? It only has the clam shell. What makes a speedster a speedster is the windshield. It’s more like an early Turbo tribute in convertible form without the turbo. Or just say it’s modified, much easier.

  • Bruce914 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

What was done to strengthen the unibody for flexing/cracking? No CAT for those of us in the smog states. Good looking car.

  • 928GTS (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    Beautiful Speedster Tribute, well done.

  • ABD20152 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@BoxsterGT Hello! As the first sentence states this is a 911SC that’s been converted to a speedster tribute car. There is no roof that folds away so by definition it is not a cabriolet. Thank you for your comment.

  • BoxsterGT (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

This is a Cabriolet, NOT a Speedster!
