Available for auction is this 1979 Porsche 928 presented in the stunning combination of Petrol Blue Metallic over Cork leather.  This iconic grand tourer is factory optioned with a desirable 5-speed manual transaxle and was reportedly purchased by the seller in May of 2019 from its longtime 2nd owner.  Shortly after, this example was shipped to the specialists at 928 Docs in Texas to undergo over $11k worth of service including a timing belt, clutch, and water pump replacement.  Now showing just over 64k miles on the odometer, this eye-catching 928 is being offered for auction by its seller in Pennsylvania accompanied by books, tools, service records, and a clean title.

The Petrol Blue Metallic finish is reported to be in very good original condition overall, with only minor road sings of going wear along the lower portions.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  Silver trim remains on the rear passenger quarter window and this example features distinctive pop-up headlights as well as factory 16" Phone dial wheels.  The Goodyear tires sized 255/50 are said to be fairly new and the wheels are believed to have been previously anodized due to their unique finish.

The exterior is complemented by a luxurious cabin trimmed in Cork leather.  Factory features include air conditioning, power windows, central locking doors, and a sound system.  The A/C was recently serviced under the current ownership and the radio has been replaced with an aftermarket Kenwood unit.  The original radio will be included in the sale, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

This venerable GT is equipped with a fuel-injected 4.5 L V8 engine rated at 219 HP and 245 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle.  Shortly after his purchase in 2019, the seller shipped this example to 928 Docs in Texas for extensive service including a new timing belt, water pump, rear main seal, clutch, fuel lines, and wiring harness.  The ball joints, shocks, and springs were also replaced during this time along with the installation of an OEM muffler.  Service records will be included in the sale and this 928 is said to be in brilliant driving condition.

This sale will include a clean title.  For any passionate enthusiast in search of a fine transaxle Porsche, this stunning Petrol Blue Metallic 928 is not to be missed.

@Doc928 Thank you for the positive comments. It is a stunning color combination.

This is a beautiful car - saw it in person at 928 event in September’20, was stunning. One of the best color combos of the period and all maintenance UTD by one of the best in the business. This is a ‘can’t lose’ car. So few left in this condition.
Bid with confidence - they don’t come around like this very often. Awesome.

@LongwoodCharger Petrol Blue PTS on a Taycan!! YES PLEASE!!

  • LongwoodCharger (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

    @Sunny
We are good! No offense taken. You will not be disappointed with this color when you see it in person. In fact, when I finally fulfill my reservation for a Taycan/Cross Turismo, I will probably order it PTS with Petrol Blue Metallic. Good luck with your winning, but there is still more than 5 hours left!

Thank you to all who have commented, emailed and called about the 928. Wanted to mention the car comes with a custom fit (for OB 928's) California Car Cover, silver in color.

@Sunny. "y'all" is jumping the gun, aren't we? This is the person that @Abuong01 and @ehey123 were referring to earlier in the posts, and I have a '78 5 spd petrol/cork combo on my lift, awaiting my putting in a 300 hp euro engine. Of course, my procrastination has made me hesitate to mod it for performance (it is vin#413) instead of leaving it original.

I would've bought this car in a heartbeat, if I don't already have 6 other 928s around the country getting special treatments from the best 928 mechanics. @Sunny, I would not hesitate to buy this car. Seeing an original paint petrol blue metallic in person would make you look back every time you park it anywhere. A '78 petrol/cork sold for over $55k (IIRC) in an auction in 2019 (Sotheby's?).

Thanks all for the bids, questions and emails thus far. Please reach out if you have questions or would like to talk live.
FYI -- A walk around video with the car running was added yesterday. If the weather continues to hold here and streets are clear I can take a drive video as well.

No worries Sunny. Most of us looking on are interested in the car. We are not so interested in being PC. And having lived in Galveston, Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Dallas I know the meaning of ‘all hat and no cattle’ and a bunch of Texans fit in that category. Nice car, it will bring the bucks.

OOPS....My grandson told me I was being a "Troll". I new that was bad having seen the context in which the word has been used in the press. So I looked the definition and I had to agree my comment was trollish.....my bad.....strike it from the record.

The format of the auction where its basically an open forum is new to me. In some respects it similar to RL forums....a community of folks with a common interests in addition to being a price discovery mechanism. ... community members support one another. I didn't get that at first. I was too impatient.

  • Sunny (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@LongwoodCharger Well why don't you bid ? In Texas this would be call all hat and no cattle

  • LongwoodCharger (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Beautiful example from a trusted source of collectible cars. Angelo spends time/money on his cars and this example is no exception. I am so in love with this color combo, and I would love to be lucky enough to purchase it. They won't get any cheaper. Well worth every penny this car will bring at the end of its auction!

@ehey123 That's the first car I ever saw in tis color combo and fell in love. Hoi has/had some really nice 928 examples! He lives about 45 minutes from where I am, he always has a car or two under wraps in his garage.
Two 79 Petrol over Cork 928's can be considered hoarding!! Ha, ha...

Hoi's old petrol/cork car is now in my garage, and I love it. It's an automatic, so I am a bit tempted by this matching 5-speed. Petrol over cork is a spectacular color combo!

@TSH5 unfortunately I do not have a driving video and we have close to 2 feet of snow. I DO have a walk around with the car running that I can get upload to PCar Team today.

  • TSH5 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Beautiful 928....could you share a video of how the car drives & sounds? Thx

  • Abuong01 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

    Good afternoon all.

Thank you for viewing my 79 Petrol over cork 928. I bought this from a collector in Louisiana a few years ago after he acquired it from a long-term owner. The car mostly sat in his warehouse although it was driven time to time to keep it healthy. Upon buying the car I had it shipped to Sean Ratts in Texas for him to go through and make ALL necessary repairs before shipping it to PA (There are two other invoices PCar did not upload, we're in the process of getting them upload asap. )
The interior is gorgeous with minimal to no flaws, the exterior paint is said to be original with the only visible flaws being stone chips along the front and bottom areas consistent with the car accumulating 64k miles. All tools, books, records, keys are present and as stated in the write up, the only modification is the radio after we discovered the amp was no longer working. The original comes with the car! I sourced an original muffler and exhaust for the car from 928 International to replace the Anso muffler fitted by prior to the LA collectors purchase. I wanted the car to be as close to perfect/original as possible and was very happy that Mark at 928 Int'l was able to source one for the car.
It drives great, sounds great and will be a wonderful addition to a 928 collection. Why am I selling her after less than two years ownership? Like a lot of Porsche owners I somehow got up to 14 cars (12 P Cars) over 5 years and simply could not maintain/drive them all. I had 7 928 and now down to this beauty and a 95 GTS. In addition, I sold a 964 and 993 within the past months and am down to a manageable number of cars. Selling this one was not an easy decision.
We have close to 2 feet of snow here in PA, driving it will not be possible before the auction closes. the car CAN be seen if anyone can make it out here (about 40 mins outside Philly) to see it.
Thank you all for the nice comments thus far. Please reach out if you have questions either through the group forum or Contact Seller button.
    Regards,
    Angelo

If anyone knows Sean Ratts (928 Docs), he worked on the car and can attest to getting an open checkbook to fix any issues he found while he worked on it. Sean does great work and is well known in 928 world.

  • Abuong01 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@LuckysDad No grinding when shifting into second although when it is cold outside the shifter doesn't always "glide" right into second. I had the same issue with my 88 and 85 928's. Otherwise it shifts easily. Sorry I didn't get a driving video, the snow was coming and I ran out of time. This car was at Frenzy 2020 in VA if anyone was there or knows anyone attending.

  • Abuong01 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@IslaTurbine No, it's not Hlee car although I believe he had one like this a few years ago when we met. Thank you, it is a beautiful car, well kept by the former owners with service records going back many years.

  • IslaTurbine (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

    @LuckysDad
She’s doing great. I’ll shoot you a PM on RL to fill you in.

  • LuckysDad (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Abuong01 How are the synchros? Any second gear grinding?

  • LuckysDad (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@IslaTurbine Not Hoi's car. Another local 928 collector.
    How's my old OB doing?

  • IslaTurbine (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Is this HLee’s car? What a great looking specimen.
