Now available for auction is this 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo finished in Black Metallic over a beige interior with Sport Seats.  One of the best known and most sought-after air-cooled Porsche’s of all time, the 930 features iconic wide fenders, a Tea Tray rear spoiler, and a turbocharged flat-six engine sending power to the rear wheels.  Originally a California car, this 930 eventually made its way to the East Coast where it was purchased by the seller from a prominent collection about four years ago.  Having undergone some considerable refurbishment in recent years including professional paint reconditioning and a rebuilt turbocharger, this beautifully appointed 930 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of New York with approximately 45k-miles showing on the odometer.

This Turbo is presented in its factory original color of Black Metallic (708).  Some signs of road-going wear are present throughout the body, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings.  In 2015, this 930 was brought to Detailing Dynamics to undergo extensive cosmetic refurbishment including custom paint reconditioning, light touch-ups, paintless ding removal, exterior rubber and plastic treatment, and installation of new black stone guards.  More recently, the owner has applied high-end 3M Crystalline window tint and Clearplex windshield protection film.  In addition to the classic wide fenders and spoilers, this 930 features 16" Fuchs wheels with color-matched centers and polished outer lips.  They are currently dressed in Kumho tires with date codes from 2016-2017.

Inside, you will find a nicely presented beige interior with desirable factory Sport Seats and an original Blaupunkt radio.  During the refurbishment by Detailing Dynamics in 2015, the interior was thoroughly cleaned, the leather was rejuvenated, the carpets were shampooed, and the ignition surround trim was re-dyed.  A new OEM Porsche shift knob was also installed along with its corresponding locking spacer.

Power comes from an air-cooled 3.0L flat-six turbocharged engine that generates as much as 265 HP in its stock U.S.-spec configuration.  The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual gearbox and factory limited slip differential.  Upgraded B&B headers and muffler were installed during prior ownership along with new Bilstein rear shocks. Provided maintenance records include a 2014 invoice for a standard oil service and inspection, as well as a more recent invoice from the current ownership detailing the refurbishment of the bypass valve and replacements of the clutch cable, oil, and filter.  The current owner has also had the original turbocharger fully rebuilt; images can be found in the gallery.  The secondary air injection pump has been disconnected, but still remains with the car.

This sale will include a toolkit, vintage air compressor, service records, spare tire, and a clean title.  Having seen tremendous appreciation for the 930 in recent years, this 45k-mile 1979 example makes an excellent investment opportunity as well as a perfect addition to any classic Porsche collection.

This is a beautiful 930; I picked up it’s twin on PCAR last November. It’s an absolute stunner in black metallic and blast to drive. Never thought I’d like it as much as guards red...I like it more! Surprised there’s not more action here. GLWS. Don’t let it go RNM!

@aspenburghound yes. I purchased it from a car collector friend of mine who purchased it from California owner don’t know previous ownership before California. I’m pretty sure the vehicle was never involved in an accident, There’s pictures in the ad that show the paint debth, I guess that’s how you can see if there was paint work or not.

In picture 37 it looks like the passenger side headlight washer is not flush with the bumper. Is there a reason it is slightly sticking out?

What does “The secondary air injection pump has been disconnected” mean? Is there some reason for that? Should it be reconnected? Thanks

  • JackTint (seller) 3 yearsago

@Heeltoeguy @Tonychang hello, car is up to date, needs nothing that I know of, just rebuilt the turbo, my mechanic gave it a once over and didn’t mention anything, you can see in the 5 years I owned it I didn’t put much mileage on it.
