Originally imported through Los Angeles and sold new from Alexander Volkswagen inc. of Yuma, Arizona, this 911 Turbo was ordered in Guards Red along with desirable leather Sport Seats, an electric sliding sunroof, and a limited-slip differential. With its unmistakable styling and color, this Turbo was chosen to represent the 930 as part of  "The Porsche Effect", an exhibit at the Los Angeles Petersen Museum in 2018. It has reportedly spent life between private collections while accumulating less than 2k miles in total. Treated to a mechanical refresh in 2017 and previously listed on PCARMARKET in 2021, this exceptional 930 Coupe is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Florida accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

This 911 comes finished in traditional Guards Red with black stone guards, 16" Fuchs wheels, and a large "tea-tray" rear spoiler.  Other features include a front chin spoiler, front fog lights, a rear window wiper, and U.S.-spec bumperettes. A set of Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico tires are tucked within the wide fenders, additional images are provided in the gallery.

The black leather interior comes factory fitted with a pair of optional Sport Seats along with air-conditioning, automatic heat control, an electric sliding sunroof panel, and an original Blaupunkt radio. Instrumentation includes oil pressure and temperature gauges, an analog quartz clock, a 150-MPH speedometer, and a central 7k-RPM tachometer with an integrated turbo boost gauge.

The turbocharged and intercooled 3.3L flat-six engine is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and optional limited-slip differential, sending up to 265 HP and 291 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels.  Service carried out under prior ownership in 2017 is said to have included replacement of the valve cover gaskets along with many other new seals and bushings throughout.

This sale will include a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a clean title. One of the most iconic poster cars of all time, this beautifully preserved Guards Red 930 makes an excellent investment as well as a fine addition to any museum or Porsche collection.

  • aaron_comstock (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    Thanks for the question.
You name any nut, bolt, hose, belt, shock, wiper; if it needed to be addressed, it was addressed in 2005 and again in 2017. We inspected the car and noticed the driveshaft making nice and replaced it. 930-332-037-00 DRIVE SHAFT
    This is a true gem.

  • delanodp 2 years, 2 monthsago

@aaron_comstock 'complete mechanical restoration'.. does that include hard parts like bearings? I assume you mean a reseal and refresh as the mechanicals should be perfect unless there was abuse like no oil change for 20 years... :-) any clarification would help.

  • delanodp 2 years, 2 monthsago

This is like walking into the palace of the vestal virgins! I don't even what to know what it took to resist driving the snot out of this for so many years. That's respectable self discipline. Even has the original, awful thermal reactors! My '78 didn't come with those thank goodness. Whoever get this needs to museum it or take off all the OEM parts that don't do any good, preserve them to return to OEM and let this baby rip... it deserves that. :-) Amazing.

Thank you all for your interest in our amazing Turbo. The decklid spoiler is correct, the tires needed to be replaced due to the age of the tire. The car went through a complete mechanical restoration in 2005 with 230 miles and then in 2017 with 480 miles, it had a major service completed.

@MikeSmalley930 I’m looking for some insight. If you may be so kind so as to explain - if it’s not a proper wing for a 1979 930 . . . then what would be correct or make this wing incorrect?

  • aaron_comstock (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

    @MikeSmalley930 yes it is.

  • MikeSmalley930 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

Tires age out and become unsafe

  • momotime (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

in one of the close up pics of one of the tires, it shows a production date of 17/17. Please advise why, with only 1814 "original" miles, this car would have tires replaced? Especially in a collector level seeing how this car has probably not been driven in quite some time. Also, when was the last MAJOR service performed and please post this service. Thank you.

  • MikeSmalley930 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

It was the 76 that had that wing... my mistake.

  • MikeSmalley930 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

@MikeSmalley930 I thought the early turbos had the whale tail style wing with the additional vent in it...
It appears I may be mistaken... feel free to remove this post. Incidently, beautiful car!!!

  • MikeSmalley930 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

That is not the rear wing of a 79 turbo...

  • 76911 2 years, 2 monthsago

@FinnytheJRT9 On the autobahn it is illegal to pass on the right, hence no need for a passenger-side mirror. A lot has changed since ‘79

    https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/1979-porsche-930-turbo-5/
I see the previous listing here for this vehicle was 8 months ago, and shows as unsold, with high bid shown as $221,000.
Is it still the same owner with a different seller?

  • FinnytheJRT9 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

This my new a silly question, but I was just curious as to why with all the extra equipment this car has including a rear window wiper why no passenger side mirror? Thanks Beautiful Car

    Such a time capsule! Wunderschon!

Too perfect to even drive, would need to buy a twin to this - one for the garage, the other for the road.
