Finished in Grand Prix White over a Black leather interior, this 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo was imported from Germany to the United States by the seller’s uncle in 1983. The previous owner in Germany oversaw the installation of several modifications and RUF accessories including a larger intercooler and an upgraded exhaust as well as a RUF boost controller, wheels, floor mats, and a three-spoke steering wheel. It has been factiously maintained under the care of the seller including a recent full brake service, new Bilstein shocks, cylinder head gaskets, piston rings, and a new Spec clutch. Showing approximately 76k miles on the odometer, this RUF-modified 930 is now being offered for auction out of California.

This 930 comes finished in Grand Prix White and features a custom front bumper with integrated fog lights, a RUF badge on the rear decklid, and staggered-width 17” RUF wheels with RUF logo center caps. The seller notes that the first owner had a Slant Nose style front end installed by AIR of Burbank, California, which was removed and replaced with new OEM front fenders under the seller’s ownership along with a complete repaint in Grand Prix White. The car rides on a set of newly installed Continental tires (4521) and the exterior is described to be in excellent overall condition. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The black leather interior features factory optional Sport Seats as well as a custom center console, a leather MOMO shift knob, an aftermarket handbrake cover, a VDO tell-tale boost gauge, a RUF-branded speedometer, RUF floor mats, and a RUF boost controller mounted between the seats. Other accessories include air conditioning, power windows, an electric sunroof, and an aftermarket Alpine Bluetooth stereo. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional apart from the boost controller which has been disconnected for test-driving purposes.

Power comes from an air-cooled 3.3-liter flat-six turbocharged engine which is said to have been modified and equipped with a larger RUF intercooler, upgraded exhaust headers, and a Bursch muffler. The seller states that a dyno test in 2016 yielded an output of 474 HP and 474.7 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle with a new SPEC clutch. Recent maintenance is said to include an engine-out service with new head gaskets, piston rings, hoses, and lines, a new OEM fuel pressure damper, all-new Bilstein shocks, refurbished brake calipers, new brake pads, and an oil & filter change.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Very rare grey market car with original documented miles and full service records. Last tested July 2016 on dyno at 473 hp, 474.7 lb.-ft of torque. The clutch was replaced with a new SPEC Clutch part# SP523F. The car has recently been detailed and the undercarriage is like new. The car was imported from Germany to California in 1983 by my uncle and has stayed in the family since. I am the 3rd owner since it was imported. The vehicle was imported with all the RUF mechanicals and accessories. Since the engine was modified to maximize horsepower the RUF intercooler was replaced with another upgraded intercooler. The vehicle is located in Long Beach California with a clear title and ready for your test drive.”

In the video it seems to be having a hard time moving? Like the idle is being held up intentionally ? Kind of jerky. Is it running and driving smoothly?

@AndreiKa hi are we able to get some sort of driving video? A cold start video would be great as well. Also in the video posted the intercooler looks black. Is that just the lighting? Thank you.

  • Sramorez1976 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

Guys, this shouldn't be so hard. It's a modified vehicle that looks pretty sick in my opinion, and that's why I'm the highest bidder without asking any questions about the RUF history. If I win, I know I'm buying a modified vehicle that probably has no collectibility history or future. But I know it will be a blast to drive on the weekends, as long as the car is solid and has no mechanical issues. I couldn't care less about the history. Good luck with the sale brother. Hopefully I win.

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 monthsago

    @AndreiKa pacific time

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 monthsago

@SGKarter4 yes got all the docs re repairs/modifications. Sorry for delay. Been out of town since Friday, getting in tomorrow am. Will upload docs and cold start by noon tomorrow.

  • SGKarter4 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

@AndreiKa any update on documents from the conversion. Worries around this car continue to mount.

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 monthsago

@JMS935 never said the upgrade on the current intercooler was done by Ruf and thank you for the comments.

  • JMS935 6 monthsago

Whether it ever had a RUF intercooler on it or not at one point in its life is a moot point for this auction since it’s long gone by now. I am confident this car has never been touched by anyone at RUF, it only has some RUF goodies on it. The engine upgrade was done by Protomotive, not RUF, whether you want to acknowledge that or not is up to you.

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 monthsago

@JMS935 thank you for your comments. As I mentioned in the history of the vehicle the original Ruf intercooler was removed. All indications are that it was replaced with a Promotive during the engine upgrade for more HP. Still on he hunt for an original Ruf intercooler. This car does come equipped with he Ruf adjustable boost. I was not able to get a direct answer from Ruf on whether you could buy Ruf parts without having them install in Germany, this vehicle was imported with the Ruf intercooler. As mentioned, nothing was badged before 84. All information is very helpful. Thank you.

  • JMS935 6 monthsago

What are ‘all the RUF mechanicals’? This sure doesn’t look like anything more than a 930 with some RUF accessories and badging added to it. Calling it ‘RUF modified’ is a major stretch, I highly doubt this was ever at RUF in Germany. The engine has obviously been modified by Protomotive, it has their intercooler and appears to be using the same exhaust they use, and even has the same performance specs as their upgrade package. IMO the mechanicals are NOT RUF, and it was never at RUF for any modifications.

It was a fiberglass slantnose prior, not very desirable

  • 87m491 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

@nzamani " isnt a slant nose more desired and worth more?"
Pretty much depends on who is writing the check, no?

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@Richbob yes I made all those changes. Roughy 40,000 in upgrades since the bat auction. Why did I do this? The plan was to keep the car and enjoy it and return it to its most desirable appearance. Would love to keep the car in the family, but circumstances change things.

You went as far as changing the rear fenders, to remove the air scoop? Was the car stripped to the metal, rear fenders cut out, new fenders welded in, before the car was repainted? Maybe it's just me, but that seems like a LOT of work and expense on a car you are selling. Can you illuminate us as to your reasoning? Oh, and not to be nitpicking, but I'm thinking the car was not factiously maintained...

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@prmnorton1 I wish I did. The original Ruf intercooler was replaced by the second US owner unfortunately. I have been on the hunt for one.

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@WTT they are the same wheels. I had them striped and repainted to proper paint code and purchased new original caps.

  • WTT 6 months, 1 weekago

Are the wheels the same as in BAT pictures? BAT looked Chromed and yours do not appear so....?

  • prmnorton1 (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

@AndreiKa great thank you for the information. Do you still have the original ruf intercooler?

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@prmnorton1 I believe I answered all but one of your questions …..Yes, the AC blows cold. Works without issue.

  • AndreiKa (seller) 6 months, 1 weekago

@madwho @gutwrencher @prmnorton1 @wideridezz thank you for your comments and questions. Yes this is the same car and I am the same owner who put it on bat. After the auction I decided the car deserved to look as close to what it looked liked when imported in 1983. I purchased all new fenders and parts from Porsche Newport Beach (docs available and will upload with all other supporting docs/receipts on Monday as well as video). The car was completely repainted in its original Grand Prix white color. I still have the slant nose AIR fenders and lights, and will be included with the purchase of the vehicle. I do have the previous steering wheel, also to be included. I do not have the previous white gauges. After 3 attempts at locating records from RUF, I was not getting anywhere. It is my understating that RUF did not start badging until 1984 and before then you could purchase components directly from them. I will continue my attempt to dig up docs with RUF. It is also my understanding that Ruf office did have some damage that resulted in the loss of some of the older records. One thing is certain it did come to the United States with the Ruf intercooler and adjustable boost. As with the previous auction, I learned a lot about this vehicle through comments. I am open to learning more about this car on this forum, so I encourage all comments. This vehicle is registered in CA with current registration. The sunroof also works perfectly. A lot of time/money was spent on this last update to the vehicle. The Ruf adjustable boost is not connected and I’ll leave that to the next owner as I did not want to risk having the wrong driver handling the car when installed. The vehicle is stored in Long Beach and is available for test drive Monday through Friday 9-5

  • prmnorton1 (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

    @Gutwrencher ok Ty
Also, does the AC work? Do you have the other white gauges that were in the car on bat auction? and you have the original steering wheel? As far as records, are there any actual ruf records, or with these things that the previous owner put on?ty

  • Madwho (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

@gutwrencher @prmnorton1 the vin and the story of the uncle importing the car match up for both cars, so this may in fact, be the same car. It did not sell on BAT, so the owner may have gone through the process of reverting the car back to “original”.

  • Gutwrencher (registered bidder) 6 months, 1 weekago

@prmnorton1 First sentence in the listing "Finished in Grand Prix White over a Black leather interior, this 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo was imported from Germany to the United States by the seller’s uncle in 1983" So I doubt he got it off BaT.

I’m just curious, did you purchase the car on the bring trailer auction? If so, did you do the front conversion back? and do you have the original Slant Nose parts?
