Introduced in 1960, the 40-Series Land Cruiser stands as a symbol of exceptional off-road capability and durability. This 1979 Toyota FJ40 example is finished in matte black over black upholstery and is powered by a 4.2-liter 2F inline-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Notable features include 15” wheels, manually locking front hubs, a heater, and an aftermarket radio. This FJ40 is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller from California.
The truck is finished in matte black and comes equipped with a hardtop, front brush bar, winch and fairlead, dual side mirrors, side-steps, a rear step bumper, a receiver hitch, and rear ambulance-style doors. It rides on black-finished 15” wheels with color-matching center caps dressed in Trail Mark Radial APR tires described as being in “excellent” condition. The seller has observed no visible scratches or dents on the exterior, and detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features front bucket seats upholstered in black leather. Amenities include a heater, a dash pad, an aftermarket radio, and manual crank windows. In the rear section, there are inward-facing jump seats and black flooring. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in working order, with no warning lights illuminated.
Power comes from a 4.2L 2F inline-six and is delivered to the rear or all four wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The seller reports the engine and transmission have remained unaltered since acquiring the vehicle in February 2017, and any modifications made by previous owners are undisclosed. Regular servicing has been conducted by the seller’s in-house mechanic, and there are currently no known mechanical issues with the vehicle.
This sale will include a spare tire, a battery charger, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. This vehicle is a fun drive. Great for any off road terrain and rides well enough for city driving. the car has been maintained beautifully in temperature controlled garage with an in house mechanic maintaining the engine and transmission. It has been driven sporadically in order to conserve mileage. It has a aftermarket radio that sounds great. The rear of the vehicle has bench seating with enough room for any size person.”

@jointprojects Thank for the question. Since we are a dealership in the city of West Hollywood, CA we have on site mechanics that work on all our cars. They are routinely driven and maintained as needed. As far as any records, I can provide you with receipts from the auto parts store that show the purchase of filters, oil and other parts. I will very shortly update photos of the engine because we had ordered the air intake horn but didn't arrive in time for the photo shoot. We also updated the interior lighting because the jeep didn't have any lighting inside. I will send pictures of everything shortly.

Great looking FJ: is the assumption that it has 137K miles? What engine maintenance / repairs have been performed during the 7 years you've owned it? Can you share more of the maintenance records? To clarify, this is the original 4 Speed Transmission (with Reverse being the 5th gear), not an updated 5 Speed? Had a '76 so know these engines are pretty solid... until they aren't. Any additional context would be appreciated. What part of CA, SoCal? Thank you.
