Up for auction is this 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa finished in Grand Prix White over a blue interior.  Originally delivered in Canada, this Targa eventually made its way to Florida where it was acquired by the current owner about five years ago.  It has since undergone extensive refurbishment and upgrades including refinishing of the wheels and lower body panels, new rubber seals, a transmission rebuild, ignition and braking system refresh, Carrera chain tensioners, Turbo tie rods, and Bilstein shocks. It has also received reupholstered leather seats, a Seine gated shifter kit, color-matched RS door panels, a 917-style shifter, cross-drilled rotors, and a three-spoke sport steering wheel.  Benefitting from considerable investment over the past several years, this 5-speed 911SC Targa is now being offered for auction by its owner out of South Carolina with approximately 167k kilometers (104k miles) on the odometer.

This 911SC comes finished in Grand Prix White with a black removable Targa top. Over the past five years, the bumpers, lower valences, and rocker panels have been refinished to address road-going wear.  The windshield was also replaced along with many of the rubber body seals.  Some minor touched-up imperfections are noted throughout the exterior as well as one small dent between the rear window and decklid, detailed images are provided in the gallery.  The 16” Fuchs wheels have been refinished and come dressed in a set of Continental ExtremeContact tires mounted in 2020 within the last 2k miles.

Inside, the blue interior has been fitted with reupholstered leather seats, color-matched RS-style door panels, a 917-style wooden shift knob, and a Renown three-spoke sport steering wheel.  Other additions include a short shift assembly with Seine gated shifter kit, new 5.25” waterproof front speakers, new floor mats, sun visors, and steering column stalks. The heater cables and front trunk liner have been replaced along with A/C blower, however, the A/C compressor and condenser have been removed. The rear seatbacks have also been removed and are said to accompany the sale along with the A/C compressor, condenser, rear heater blower, original steering wheel, door pockets, and new rubber moldings for the Targa top.

This SC is equipped with an air-cooled 3.0L flat-six engine rated at 180 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque stock.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed 915 manual gearbox rebuilt by Vertex Auto under the current ownership.  The engine was previously rebuilt and has been upgraded with a Euro piston and cylinder kit, SSI heat exchangers, Carrera chain tensioners, and a new OEM airbox with a pop-off valve.  Items installed under the current ownership include a new engine-to-cooler oil line, heater backdate, a new distributor, ignition wires, fuel accumulator, bump-steer kit, Turbo tie rods, Bilstein shock absorbers, a new brake master cylinder, and cross-drilled brake rotors.  The suspension has also been lowered to European-spec ride height. Some service records are provided for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include a set of two keys, a partial toolkit, air compressor, spare tire, jack, Targa top seals, and a clean title as well as the original A/C compressor, condenser, door pockets, steering wheel, fog lights, rear seatbacks, and rear heater fan.

@TyStav his car is ready to drive. The only thing that needs to be done is have the roof recovered. I drive it often and have all summer. I even drive it long distances without any worry. There’s only 104,000 miles total on the car and there was work done to the engine as you can see in the receipts mid life. She still has a lot more life left in that engine.

@robf911sc Thanks - I know I had an 85 and my mechanic said the same and I ended up with a bad cylinder. Not trying to scare anyone off as I think this is a great car with good service record. I was just trying to understand if it had ben completed to understand the potential outlay. Thanks and GLWA.

@TyStav I brought this up to my mechanics and they said considering the maintenance history and how strong it was still running that they recommended not spending the money on it.

Regarding the AC, does this car currently have air conditioning that is functional?
