Available for auction is this 1980 Rover 3500 SD1 finished in yellow over a brown cloth interior. Designed to replace the Rover P6 and Triumph 2000 sedans, the 3500 was named European Car of The Year in 1977. This 1980 example was acquired by the seller from the previous owner's estate and comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V8 engine paired with a factory optional 3-speed automatic transmission. This Rover is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania while showing just under 86k miles on the odometer.
Designed and engineered by David Bache and Spen King, the 3500 is said to have drawn inspiration from the Ferrari Daytona and GTC/4. This example comes finished in yellow and is said to exhibit some patina throughout including buff marks at panel edges and a missing hood scoop insert. Additional images can be found in the gallery. It rides on a set of 14” alloy wheels dressed in Michelin Defender tires. Some dry rotting can be seen in the tire tread.
The cabin is upholstered in brown cloth with matching carpets, door panels, headliner, and dashboard. Plastic covers protect the front seats and the upper section of the rear bench, and a carpet mat covers cracks on the original dash pad. Some separation of the door panel fabric can be seen, and the battery warning light is said to appear intermittently. Amenities include air conditioning, power windows, and a Nextar AM/FM radio. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain fully functional.
Power comes from a 3.5-liter Rover V8 that drives the rear wheels by way of a 3-speed GM TH180 automatic transmission. The 3500 uses a live axle rear suspension along with front disc and rear drum brakes. The seller reports a service and safety inspection have been completed in preparation for the next owner.
This sale will include a clean title.

Good Afternoon, and Thank You for taking the time to look at our 1980 Rover. We are a small dealership in Freeport PA, just an hour north of Pittsburgh PA. We like odd units, and this one fit the bill perfectly for what we like to carry. We have driven this car to a few shows, and parked it on our showroom floor for a conversation piece, it is a neat car, it runs out great, and looks great for the age and miles. We are on standby to answer any questions that you may have. Thank you, and Good Luck!
