Available for auction is this 1981 DMC DeLorean DMC-12 featuring a brushed stainless-steel body over a grey leather interior. The DMC-12 was DeLorean Motor Company's first and only model and was produced for only two years due to the company's financial turmoil. This three-owner example was acquired by the seller in 2014 from DeLorean Motor Company of Florida in 2014 and has received extensive service and reconditioning since. Notable work has included an engine out service and reseal, a new clutch, tires, window and door seals, a cooling system refresh and much more. An automotive cultural icon, this DeLorean is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Maryland while showing just over 20k miles on its odometer.
Styled by famed designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, the DMC-12 uses corrosion-resistant SS304 austenitic stainless steel for its brushed bodywork which is laid over an FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) underbody. This example is said to remain in excellent overall condition aside from two minor imperfections on the roof and on the passenger door. Details include counterbalanced gullwing doors, a louvered rear-window cover, quad headlamps, black bumper covers, and dual exhaust outlets. It rides on a set of staggered diameter turbine-style cast-alloy wheels measuring 14” in the front and 15” in the rear, dressed in new Hankook Kinergy ST tires.
The cabin is upholstered in grey Bridge of Weir leather featuring two bucket seats with a matching dashboard, door panels, center console, and carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, a digital clock, power windows and side mirrors, and a tilt/telescopic steering wheel. Some creasing and wear is noted on the bottom portion of the driver's seat. The seller reports that new window and door seals have been fitted along with a new dome light and confirms that all gauges and accessories remain functional.
Power comes from a mid-mounted 2.85-liter V6 engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection which was co-developed by Peugeot-Renault-Volvo. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. Performance features include a four-wheel independent suspension with telescopic shock absorbers, double wishbones up front and a multilink setup in the rear, and power-assisted disc brakes at all corners. Under current ownership, this DMC-12 is said to have received an engine out service including all new seals, a new fuel pump and module, starter, alternator, battery, steering rack, brake master cylinder, shocks, a cooling system refresh, and a rebuild of the transmission including a new clutch, flywheel, and clutch releases fork.

This is a beautiful example and a lot of key work has been done. I have a tough schedule next week but might ask to setup a time to look at the car and ask some questions. This is the closest/nicest one near me to come up for sale in a while (I'm in tidewater Virginia).
