In 1980, Ferrari introduced the 308 GTBi equipped with an all-aluminum fuel-injected V8 engine. Said to be one of only 494 examples produced before the model was succeeded by the Quattrovalvole version, this Ferrari 308 GTBi was purchased new at Hollywood Sports Cars of Beverly Hills, California, and has remained under the care of its original owner since. It was ordered in Nero over a matching leather interior and is now being offered at auction out of California showing approximately 7k miles on the odometer.

The Pininfarina-designed bodywork is finished in Nero (1240) and includes US-spec bumpers, amber side markers, pop-up headlights, side air intakes, quad exhaust outlets, a power antenna, a power driver’s side mirror, and front driving lights which were installed by the original owner. The factory 14” Cromodora wheels are mounted with original Michelin TRX metric tires and the seller reports a few dents and some signs of wear to the exterior, additional images are provided in the gallery.

The interior is upholstered in black leather with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. The seats include angular patterned inserts and embossed Ferrari logos in the headrests and show minor signs of wear, mostly on the driver’s side outer bolster. Amenities include air conditioning, power accessories, a gated shifter, Veglia instrumentation, an auxiliary gauge for coolant temperature, a quartz clock in the center console, tinted glass, and an aftermarket radio.

The 308 GTBi is powered by a transverse mid-mounted 2.9L quad-cam V8 equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and Marelli DigiPlex ignition. Up to 214 HP and 179 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller reports the original owner personally serviced the car since new and has started it regularly for mechanical excursive over the past 38 years. The seller recommends the drive belts be replaced if the car is intended to be used regularly.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, original window sticker, original sales literature, a full-sized spare, a complete toolkit, a car cover, and a battery charger.

Full tool kit, jack, tire iron and pouch, OEM green bulb holder and full books and receipts.

I noticed a LOT of original hose clamps in the engine bay, safety yellow nut paint, and CV clamps you just can't find anymore - such originality, Mama Mia!

it is so sad somebody had to let this go as a life-style change event, but waiting for such sales may be the only way to obtain such an Original car.

I have had a few questions regarding California Smog Certification… if a California buyer ends up being the next owner it will come with a current California smog certificate.

@Cytoboy The reason I added photos of passenger door open etc is there no evidence of any rust other than the outer door skin. Nothing on lower part of door, rocker panel etc.

@Cytoboy I have added all the defaults I can see now with photos. There are a few small pressure dings throughout the car that are hard to photograph, a few chips and scratches as one you believe you would find on a 41 year old car. I have added a photo of lower part of drivers door which is just starting to show a very small amount of rust starting. It’s is very minor.
    Thanks for the question

  • sbcarguy (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Cytoboy 1. I will take a through look over the car and get back to you asap.
    2. Based upon the current California registration I believe it was smogged last year.
    3. I do not believe it has had a major service including belts. It has been used less than 100 miles per year over the past 30 plus years.
    4. I have seen no evidence of current fluid leaks, if you review the underside photos, it’s in amazing condition and has not been dry ice blasted or anything.
I have not even detailed the car.
Thank You for the interest and questions.

  • Cytoboy (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

    Four quick questions:

    1. Any “tin worm” evidence other than the rust photo shown?

    2. Recent California SMOG certification passed?

    3. When was the last comprehensive service?

    4. Any oil or fluid leaks?

Sorry for the late nature of my queries. I appreciate your reply.

    @PCarGo ,
I just added a few more photos of small imperfections one might expect of a 41 year old car that has not been restored, re-touched etc.
    Thank You

@PCarGo The car has lived its life a few miles from the ocean since new (not far from LAX) , albeit covered in his garage and there is a small bit of rust on the lower part of the passenger door as shown in photo 164.
I chose not to have it addressed prior to sale as the car is a survivor wearing its original paint.
    Thank You for your question.

  • PCarGo (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

sbcarguy can you provide more insight to picture 164? I can’t determine what part of the car is shown and if those are rust bubbles. It is a beautiful car! Thanks.

  • sbcarguy (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@SIRAMED Thanks so much for your comment.

It is a true survivor, owned and driven by one man for 41 years!

    @PorscheGuys

Sure... If that makes it for a new owner... Happy to source them :)

However, would have to pretend its RED and a GTS VS a GTB.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • PorscheGuys (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

Does it come with a red Aloha shirt and a blue Detroit Tigers ball cap by chance … ?
Hahaha …. sweet ride, Best …

@jbauto Thanks for the comment... Its a pretty special original car that hopefully will find its next "caretaker" at the end of the auction.

    Hello PCARMARKET!

Welcome to our listing of our "1 Owner California 1981 Ferrari 308GTBI"

Here is a little background on this 1981 Ferrari 308 GTBI.

This "Garage Find" has been with its Original Owner since it was leased as a brand new car from Hollywood Sports Cars in 1981. The Original Owner, now 84 years old, finally decided it was time to let it go to its next caretaker. It has never been offered for sale until now. It wears its Original Paint as shown by Paint Meter Readings in the photo gallery. In its first (4) years of its life, the Original Owner drove it 5,882 miles and then basically very rarely used for the next 37 years. It sat covered in his garage and he started and warmed it up to operating temperature every 3 months or so....

    It comes with the following:
    Original Complete Owners Manual Packet
    Original Window Sticker
    Original Factory Parts Catalogue
    Original California Registrations
    Complete Original Took Kit
    Complete Original Jack kit
Blue and Yellow Original California License Plates (2)
    (2) Sets of keys and more!

I have personally driven the car a mile or two to obviously check odometer, the function of the engine, transmission, brakes etc.... Its tight just as you would expect from a car with just over 7,000 original miles from new. It currently rides on its original tires check show some checking as shown in the photo gallery.

    Questions???
Ask Away and Best of Luck to All.
