A precursor to the Honda Rebel series, the CM series motorcycle was produced in the classic flat-seat style of the 1960s and 1970s. This 1981 example is a CM400T that has been customized as a café racer with a painted Gulf livery, ComStar wheels, RFY shocks, a repositioned battery, LED lighting, heat-wrapped exhaust, copper-finished mufflers, and pod-style air filters. It was treated to a full service earlier in 2023 and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.

This CM400T was refinished under previous ownership in a Gulf Racing theme including an orange-painted frame and light blue bodywork with a contrasting racing stripe and Gulf logos. Other details include dual LED headlights and taillights, a custom tail section with an integrated black bump seat, a custom front fairing, a side stand, a Napoleon-style mirror, and heat-wrapped dual exhaust pipes connected to copper-finished mufflers. The rider is situated ahead of black clip-on handlebars that flank an aftermarket digital center gauge, an engine start button, a neutral indicator light, and ignition switches. The bike rides on 18”/16” ComStar wheels which are powder-coated in black and mounted with new Kenda Challenger tires.

Originally rated at 39 HP and 23lb.-ft of torque, a 395cc SOHC four-stroke parallel twin engine paired sends power to the rear wheel via a 5-speed transmission and a drive chain. The engine includes both kick and electric starters as well as twin carburetors and pod-style air filters. The frame is paired with a telescopic fork with black powder-coated lowers and ears, twin RFY piggyback shocks on the rear swingarm, a front disc brake with stainless-steel lines, and a drum brake in the rear. The seller indicates that the service completed in 2023 included an oil change, a new clutch, new tires, and a brake fluid flush.

This custom motorcycle is accompanied by a certificate of registration and a bill of sale.
