Originally sold in Switzerland, this 1981 Mercedes-Benz 500SLC made its way to Canada in 1995. Among the 1,133 units crafted to Homologate the C107 for global motorsport, it houses a 5.0-liter M117 V8 engine coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It comes finished in Cypress Green Metallic over a beige vinyl and cloth interior and features 14”Bundt alloy wheels, anti-lock brakes, a sunroof, fog lights, rear seats, power windows, and a Nakamichi CD stereo. Showing 169k kilometers (approximately 105k miles) on the odometer, this 500SLC is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Calgary, Canada.
Finished in Cypress Green Metallic, this 500SLC showcases headlights with washers and wipers, along with fog lights, a sunroof, dual side mirrors, a power antenna, chrome bumpers, and polished aluminum trim. It rides on 14” Bundt alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin XGT tires. The driver’s side fender and rear quarter panel underwent a repaint in the past, detailed images are provided in the gallery, along with a clean CARFAX report.
The interior features beige vinyl seats with patterned cloth inserts, complemented by a color-coordinated lower dashboard, center console, and door panels. It is equipped with front seat headrests, front seat armrests, cruise control, an aftermarket Nakamichi CD stereo, power locks, and power windows. The four-spoke steering wheel has an aftermarket wrap, and all gauges and electronics are reported to be working properly.
Power is derived from a 5.0-liter M117 V8 that features Bosch fuel injection and is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. Braking power is facilitated by four-wheel discs with ABS. The engine oil was changed in December 2023, and the seller notes an oil leak.
This sale will include an expired Canadian registration, a tool kit and Mercedes-Benz branded front floor mats

@archer1. It is possible, but like I said, in my experience that is not common on these engines and there is half a chance it will clear up, based on the fact that the leak is diminishing with some regular use. That said the next buyer should budget for a major service.

@ lromanosky (seller)- The leak "It is coming from the back on the engine", then most probably is from the rear main engine seal which I believe you must either pull the engine out or drop the transmission to replace the seal. Part is inexpensive but nevertheless a labor intensive repair which will cost a pretty penny.
@mb_md84. Yes I can help with importation and logistics. Here is an excerpt from a blog I recently wrote. The short of it is that the car is over 25 years old, so all you have to do is pay 2.85% duty, some brokerage costs and transport. There is no compliance, DOT or EPA paperwork to get it in the country.
Cars going from Canada to the US need to be imported which involves filling out a bunch of forms, providing necessary documentation and presenting the car and paperwork at the border crossing. Duty may or not be due, depending on where the car was made.
You can do this yourself or you can hire a broker to do it for you. We recommend using a Broker which costs about $500. Many of the large transport companies can look after the brokerage for you and include it in the shipping quote. I use www.tfxinternational.com who send trucks across the border every day and know what they are doing. They have the best equipment and drivers in my opinion and run rigs similar to what you see from Reliable and others at Pebble Beach and other high-end collector car events. TFX give on-line quotes.
To import a vehicle to the US, the DOT and EPA want to make sure the car is compliant and any recalls that are outstanding are complete before allowing it in the country. If the vehicle is not compliant, it has to be made so before it can be imported. If a vehicle is over 25 years old, it does not need any DOT or NHTSA compliance and the process is much easier.
If the car is younger than 25 years from the date of manufacture, you will need manufacturer stickers on the car saying it is DOT, EPA and NHTSA compliant, Failing that, you will need a letter from the Manufacturer saying the car meets all EPA/DOT standards, as well as a letter saying there are no outstanding recalls.
This car is older than 25 years so there is no EPA, DOT or NHTSA compliance issues or requirements. It was not made in NAFTA, so 2.85% duty (on the sale price) will be due. If you are to use a broker expect a $500 fee. There are several other minor charges which add up to a few hundred dollars.
By far the easiest thing to do is just go to www.tfxinternational.com and get a quote which includes all the brokerage fees, and moves the car door to door.
After the car is delivered, TFX will provide the import forms which can be taken to the DMV who can issue a US Title.
And that is about it. Bid on the car and win. Send a wire transfer. Sign a bunch of forms that TFX sends you. Pay for the Brokerage and shipping. Wait for the car to arrive. Take the import paperwork to your state DMV to obtain a US Title. Enjoy the car and the memories that go with driving it.

Is there any assistance available to import this vehicle in the United States?

@carslike. It is engine oil, and it leaves a small pool 5 or 6 cm in diameter. Though every time I drive it, it gets smaller. It is coming from the back on the engine, somewhere. I have not been able to identify positively the source. I've had 25 80's Benz's with the 117 engine, and put hundreds of thousands of km on them and never done a RMS or a head gasket. Mostly they all leak from the power steering reservoir, the steering box and valve covers. Since this car has not been driven hardly at all in the last 10 years, I would put 1,000km on it before I did anything. The leak may very well clear up, and others may develop. After 1,000km then dig into it. That is what I would do in anycase.
Hi what sort of oil is leaking and from where? Does it leak when the car is sitting or after drives or both?

Thanks for the comments and bids so far. In answer to some questions: @GrandNatty correct, no AC but no troublesome automatic climate control either. @Terra. I'll try to find my source for the 1,133 production number that I quoted. Regardless, it is not very many considering about 63,000 C107s were made and less than 3,000 with the 5.0L. You can tell by the VIN if it is an actual 500SLC - following the 107 the 500's will have '026' and the 450s '024. This car has an aluminum bonnet, but was (not unusually for Switzerland) ordered with the rear spoiler delete which gives you a steel trunk lid.
I tried to be really thorough in the videos, but please ask more questions if you don't feel like sitting through an hour and a half of me rambling on...

Porsche guy through and through but I had to speak up on this incredible high class machine. Beautiful colors, textures, high quality everywhere you look. Nak Deck! This owner loved the finer side of life. Modern cars suck! Bring back this era!
By the way, 1299 was the actual production number; 816 in 1980 and 483 in 1981.
True 500SLC's had light alloy hoods, front and rear and a rear spoiler. One I had was purchased in Germany and had leather seats.
Does the car have aluminum hood and trunk lid? Where is the spoiler on the trunk lid?
@lromanosky - No AC?
