@wadds1971 looks awesome cosmetically…I had an 85 Targa and was the same. It ran awesome but when I did a compression test when I went to sell - I found I had a bad cylinder gasket. It all worked out but at least the buyer knew what he was getting into. I guess it is the risk we take in this market. Still…a great looking car with a unique interior!
@TyStav - Looks like we are in agreement re: various maintenance issues on this car. Seems to me it would not be difficult to at least determine whether or not this car still has its original engine and trans, whether or not they have every been overhauled. There is so much it would be comforting to know when deciding to buy an older air-cooled 911 like this one, but in this hyper-charged classic car marketplace, most bidders seem willing to just pay top dollar, and hope that no surprises appear post-delivery. This 911 does look very attractive on the surface, though, doesn't it?
@wadds1971 you are spot on. I wish we could get compression test on the cylinders and know if strengthen head studs were installed. That will determine how much post purchase work would need to be done.

@BT007 - Thanks for the response. Wish you had more detail on this car, but I know this information is easily lost as the car passes through successive owners. Of course, some would say that any Porsche, especially one that is now 40 years old, should be throughly inspected by a qualified tech before buying, but that will not be possible here. At a very minimum, it would be helpful to see compression figures for each cylinder, just to give a clue as to the engine's basic health. But, you've already said this testing has not been done. Any idea if strengthened head studs have been installed? I understand this is a common practice in these engines over time. Thanks again.
@wadds1971 I have owned the vehicle for four years. I received some maintenance records from Gaudin Porsche in Vegas but nothing showing the engine or trans was ever rebuilt or replaced. I have receipts from 2014 when the interior was redone. Car has been in CA and NV and I have not found any evidence of rust or panel replacement. Carfax is clean but of course the car predates carfax. From what I can tell, the car was just well taken care of then refreshed at some point before I purchased it in 2017. I don't have records on when or where it was painted but it is high quality and in great shape.

@BT007 - Can you confirm that this car still has its original engine and transmission? Any history of rebuilding of either? Do you have any info on the condition of the body just prior to its complete refinishing? Any history of rust or accident damage, new panels, etc.? Thanks!

Nice looking car. Had a 930 we purchased in California several years back and drove back to Virginia. Great trip, would love to do the same with this one.

@airkewldfan yes, both upgrades have been done.
@airkewldfan I don't know if I'll be able to get a video posted by the time the auction ends but I assure you its a runner. Below is a link to a YouTube video posted by the dealer I bought the car from 4 years ago. Not sure about the updates but I will try to get that answered by the end of the day.

@wadds1971 A/C became standard in 1980. The A/C in this car actually works very well.
Also - Any idea if the chain tensioner and pop off valve updates have been done?
@BT007 nice looking car! Would love to see a start, run and drive video.
@BT007 - Beautiful SC! It does appear to have an A/C system installed (was this standard by '81?), yet no mention is made in the write-up that I could see. Does it blow reasonably cold, at least for an air-cooled 911, that is? Not sure about the chrome Fuchs, but will keep checking the pics to see if they grow on me. :-) At least you are located on the correct coast!
@TyStav no, there is nothing dripping or smoke other than cold start smoke from the exhaust pipe. I'm not saying there IS seepage, I'm just trying to fully disclose everything. I've not been under the car but based on the age of the car I suspect you may find something like that if looked hard enough. Again there are no known leaks or issues at all.
@BT007 thanks. Does the seepage you reference cause any type of burn off or smoking during running (other than the normal flat six startup puff)? Thanks for answering as I am just trying to gauge any engine work that would need to be done after purchase to sort out. Thanks!
@TyStav thanks. There are no oil leaks that drip or leave anything on the ground. If you look hard enough you may find some seepage but nothing unusual. Car has spent its life in California and Nevada so there is no rust. There is a tiny bit of corrosion on the window frame which is pictured. No, I have not had the compression tested as it runs strong. When it was brought to CA 4 years ago it had to have some adjustments and a new catalytic converter to pass smog inspection.
Nice looking SC. Are there any oil leaks? Have you had a leak down or compression test on the cylinders recently? Any rust issues? Thanks for your time.
