Introduced in 1976, the BMW R100 RS was equipped with BMW’s new “slash seven” air-cooled flat-twin engine producing 70 HP. This 1982 example was sold new in California and relocated to Texas where it was ridden until 1993 before being placed in dry storage. It was recently acquired by the seller who since performed an oil service, installed a new battery, replaced the brake system, fitted new tires, new steering bearings, and swapped the front wheel per a BMW recall. This 1982 BMW R100 RS is now being offered at auction by its seller out of California.

The exterior is finished in metallic grey over a black tubular frame and features a 6.3-gallon fuel tank, a stepped two-up seat, a front fairing, a clear windscreen, hard-sided panniers, and polished exhaust pipes. Under their ownership, the seller has replaced the front windscreen and has installed new switch gears. The seller reports the side covers and front fender have been refinished and some scratches are visible as well as some corrosion on the hardware. Detailed images are provided in the gallery. The cast-alloy “snowflake” wheels measure 19” in the front and 18” in the rear and are mounted with new Continental tires. The original pre-recall front wheel can be included in the sale upon the next owner's request.

The R100 RS is powered by 980cc air-cooled flat twin engine with twin carburetors, producing up to 70 HP when new. The rear wheel is driven by a single-disc dry clutch, a five-speed transmission, and an enclosed driveshaft. Work carried out by the seller includes the installation of a new battery, a new brake system including new lines, a new master cylinder, and a new slave cylinder, an oil and filter change, mounting of new tires, and the installation of new steering bearings.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, associated literature, some service documentation, and a clean title.

I just added a cool picture from the RS development back in the days . I hope you would enjoy.
By the way the first R100RS from the late 70s had a different front brake system and a different engine/ airbox/ choke. With I believe model year 1981 this was improved. The bike for sale here already shows the upgraded versions. Fun to ride, quicker to stop….. I have always preferred the last model years of the /7 series

@Rags44 It was my first bike when I started riding, so yes, very possible.
Obviously modern bikes have many upgrades to be faster , but if that is not your goal a classy Beemer is a good choice.

Just took mine out for a couple hundred miles up to Steamboat and around the 20 Mile - Oak Creek loop Monday. I do not see any downside to owning one of these in top condition. Iconic visual …like a 911.

@82turboruf thank you, yes the bike is beautiful and will be missed once it sells. All work is done and it is ready to be enjoyed. It is a design icon and the first really aero optimized bike. I hope it finds a good spot in somebodies garage and it will be ridden as well

WOW! nice airhead! I have a 1980 r100t that I pulled out of 25 year storage and am slowly working my way thru it. Not nearly as nice as yours. GLWS

Thank you for reviewing my beautiful BMW bike. It is a very low mileage bike and shows very well. I added a lot of new parts and will add all the old parts with the sale should the new owner be interested
    Good luck bidding
