We are pleased to offer this 1982 Porsche 911SC Coupe finished in Paint to Sample Anthracite Grey over a black leather interior with factory Sport Seats.  Originally a California car, this well-appointed 1982 example was purchased by its current owner in February of 2019 and has received many tasteful modifications including an upgraded suspension and exhaust system, Carrera chain tensioners, a WEVO billet shifter, RS-style door panels, and much more.  Most of the orignal parts that were removed have been retained and will be included in the sale. With a major service carried out in 2019 including a gearbox rebuild and engine reseal, this remarkable 911SC is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia while showing just under 117k miles on the odometer.

This SC was factory specified in the rare Paint to Sample color of Anthracite Grey Metallic (635-9-3). Cosmetic imperfections include minor paint fade on the roof and rear decklid, some signs of road-going wear, and a filled-in chip on the windshield.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX.  European-spec Bosch H4 headlights have been installed and additional factory equipment includes rectangular front fog lights and forged alloy 16” Fuchs wheels which feature 11mm Brey-Krause spacers in the rear.  These original wheels come dressed in Michelin Pilot Exalto tires sized 205/55R16 front (6”), 225/50R16 rear (7”).

Inside, this Coupe features a black leather interior with desirable factory Sport Seats.  Other optional equipment includes automatic heating control, cruise control, a black roof liner, and an electric sunroof.  The cabin has been modified with RS-style door panels, Rennline pedals, and a WEVO 915 tall billet aluminum shifter.  The gauges have also been rebuilt including a 160-MPH speedometer, recalibrated tachometer, and new LED backlighting.  The A/C system has been removed (parts kept) and the cabin heat system has been "backdated". Some peeling is noted on the dashboard upholstery and the rubber sunroof seals recommended for replacement.  A small patch has also been noted on the roof liner.

The air-cooled 3.0L flat-six engine has been upgraded with Carrera chain tensioners, Turbo valve covers, SSI heat exchangers, and a Dansk muffler. The original California-spec exhaust headers, cats, and accompanying M&K sport muffler will also be included in the sale. The 5-speed 915 manual gearbox was rebuilt during a major service in June of 2019 along with complete reseal of the engine and valve adjustment.  The shift rod bushings and lever ball socket have also been replaced. This SC came factory optioned with Sport shock absorbers and has been lowered to European ride height along with a corner balance and alignment.  The suspension features Eibach front and rear sway bars, Rennline adjustable spring plates, Sway-A-Way hollow rear torsion bars, Turbo tie rods, and a Rebel Racing front strut brace.  The major service in 2019 was carried out by European Car Specialist in Newport Beach at a cost of over $8,600, and an extensive collection of records is said to accompany the sale dating back to the original ownership. Some invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a set of two keys, extensive service records, a toolkit, spare tire, and a clean title. With its rare facotry options and tasteful upgrades, this 911SC is sure to catch the eye of any air-cooled Porsche enthusiast.

@996ForLife The oxygen sensor module just needs to be re-set. It’s in the cowl behind the gauges. Most Porsche techs know how to do it.
Congratulations on the auction to the buyer and yourself as the seller for maintaining such a nice SC.

@Mattmotos that’s the oxygen sensor light. It’s the result of installing the SSI exhaust headers / heat exchangers.

  • Mattmotos (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

What is the illuminated dash light on your driving video?

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Renti Sure. I have submitted the compression test results slip to Pcar and spoke to the team. Both that photo and the photos I submitted to Pcar last night (original door cards and shifter boot) should be up in a few minutes.
See the gallery for the work done since I've owned it - photos 100 to 103. It totals almost $11 grand...
    Cheers,
    Jonathan

@Koolbilly123 thanks. I have the original door cards. I don’t have the original radio. I have submitted photos of the door cards and original shifter boot to Pcar; they should be up tomorrow (can’t find the old shifter itself).
No leaks at all. No start-up smoke (for a car that doesn’t have cats, keep in mind, so exhaust smoke in general is just not going to look the same as when the car is fitted with cats - the cats will be included in the sale though)

  • Koolbilly123 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Hi Seller nice 911 example, So do u still have the original door panels and the radio? Any pics of inner door panels or shifter plz? Any leaks or start smoke?
    Thank u

    Thanks, Jonathan, for clarifying .

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@jsipay yes. As stated in the listing “ The gauges have also been rebuilt including a 160-MPH speedometer, recalibrated tachometer, and new LED backlighting.”
Original gauge faces come with the car as well. Pretty uncommon at this point to see 85 MPH speedos still sticking around on these cars...
    Cheers,
    Jonathan

  • jsipay 2 years, 11 monthsago

Can you explain why this car has a 160 mph speedometer when all 1982 USA spec vehicles were mandated by the EPA to have a 85 mph speedometer. Do you know if the Speedometer/Odometer been replaced ?

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@universalcat I’d prefer another form of payment, but we can figure something out if you decide to bid and win the car.

  • universalcat (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

What a beauty. I want it. I'm new here so excuse the question but is it possible to pay with cash if you win the auction?

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@nostra Absolutely, happy to! Send me a PM and we’ll figure out exact meeting logistics.

  • nostra (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@996ForLife I'm in Ashburn as well. Is there a way that I can come check out the car?

  • PCARMARKET 2 years, 11 monthsago

A new video has been added to the listing page.

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Happy Tuesday! A nice early morning drive video should be up shortly (yes - the car was fully warmed up prior to filming :) ).
Apologies for the annoying kind of rubber-on-rubber rubbing/stretching/rattling sound in the background - it’s coming from the phone holder and stand I was using. Did my best to play around with it prior to filming to minimize the noise, but I’m a rookie at this...

Up-close photo of the dash peeling should be up shortly too.

    Cheers!

@jordythe944guy Thank you! The photos don't even do it full justice in my opinion - there's actually some lovely iridescence to the paint you can see in-person as you walk around the car.

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@JeffBrahin All AC parts come with the car, if the buyer is so inclined to install them

  • jordythe944guy 2 years, 11 monthsago

Beautiful car! That color is really something!

  • JeffBrahin (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Any chance that you could reinstall the AC ?

    @Dune73 thank you!
Absolutely, I’d be happy to assist with shipping to Germany. Multiple shipping companies are specialized in that kind of route.
Of course by the same token - happy to help with domestic shipping as well.

  • Dune73 2 years, 11 monthsago

    Love your car!

Would you assist to get the car to Germany? (Shipping)
I think it’s not to that problem to find a company...

    Best!

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@wadds1971 Thanks! I've asked Pcar Market to add a close-up pic of the dash peeling. Regarding paint - a professional shop would be able to 'scan' the paint on the body at virtually replicate it exactly, so I don't think that will be an issue (the paint was never a priority for me to address). Regarding rebuild - no history of engine rebuild beyond the reseal completed in 2019. Regarding mods and track use - I know the vast vast majority of the mods were installed by the owner directly before me, who I got to know before / while buying the car. As far as I am aware, his angle was simply making a near-40 year old car (which, as much as we may not want to admit it, is 'clunky' in respects) drive in a sharper / more modern fashion (for example, Wevo mod was done to take the car, in his words, from shifting 'like a pickup truck' to more akin to a Japanese sports car). He did not track it. Regarding 996 - I do have a 996, and have owned multiple 996s, I just can't get enough of them :) A 996 is obviously easier to live with...I suppose the trade off being that, when the set-up (e.g. road, weather, traffic, etc.) is just right, peak enjoyment can be higher in these more characterful G-body 911s. I just don't get moments like those working from home on the east coast like I used to get living on the west coast and driving around everywhere...

  • wadds1971 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@996ForLife - Handsome SC. Really like the Anthracite Grey, but being a PTS shade, would it be more difficult to match if refinishing of the roof and deck lid was desired? Any chance you kept the original door panels, and if so what shape are they in? Could you give more detail on the "peeling" of the dashboard? Maybe a close-up pic demonstrating that? Any history of engine rebuilding, beyond resealing? With the mods installed, can we assume the car has seen some serious track time in the past? Sounds like you may have a nice 996 staying on in your garage. Have you found that one to be just easier to live with over time? Thanks for any info you can provide.

  • alal (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

    @996ForLife PM-ed! Thanks

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@alal Thank you! Absolutely no problem. PM me and we can figure out exact logistics.

  • 996ForLife (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

    @Mikeamoss Thank you!
    1) The Wevo shifter is fantastic - super short and precise throws, and almost zero play (doesn't make you regret much not having a G50 ;) ). I doubt the original boot and knob can be used with the Wevo shifter. I do have the original boot; have to check and get back to you on the shifter.
    2) Sunroof does not leak
    3) Backdate basically means using the engine's own fan to push heat into the cabin (controlled by 2 levers between the driver and passenger seats) in lieu of the heavy and complex electric auxiliary heater blower that Porsche started fitting to 911s in the 70s. Yes, all original HVAC parts will be included
    4) It looks 'stock', just brighter. I can take some photos I'm back at my car
    5) Yes they were. All good, as to be expected from a CA / west coast car (from what I've learnt over the years, its really humidity that poses a problem for those)
    6) I believe I'm the 5th owner
    7) I bought my 1982 when I was living in California (LA). During COVID/WFH, like many others I moved out the city and back closer to family on the east coast. I haven't driven my 1982 much at all on the east coast. And now I doubt moving back to LA is in the cards. It's not right for the car to not be driven and enjoyed, so I want to sell it to someone who will find a way to enjoy it.

    Cheers,
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

The car looks great! Is there any chance I’m allowed to see the car in person? Just to view, wouldn’t need to drive. In the Tysons Corner area so not too far away.

  • Mikeamoss (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

    Jonathan,

Great looking SC! Just a couple of questions.
    1. How does the shifter feel? Can the original boot and knob be used with WEVO shifter? Do you have original shifter?
    2. Does sunroof leak?
    3. Can you expound on “backdate” of HVAC controls? Original HVAC parts included?
    4. Can you post pictures of LED instrument lighting?
    5. Were headstuds examined when car was serviced?
    6. How many owners?
    7. Why selling so soon?

    Thanks,

    Mike
