We are pleased to offer this 1982 Porsche 911SC Targa finished in Guards Red.  Beginning life in Texas, this Targa was acquired by its second owner in 1996 before being purchased by the third and most recent owner in 2008.  Under the care of the second owner, this 911SC underwent extensive performance modifications including an additional oil cooler, upgraded brakes, Bilstein dampers, larger torsion and sway bars, a Wevo shifter, lightweight flywheel, and a completely rebuilt 3.6L flat-six engine sourced from a Porsche 964.  Accompanied by a comprehensive collection of service records, this 911SC is said to have been driven approximately 1k miles since the completion of the upgrades and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey with just under 73k miles showing on the odometer.

Finished in the traditional shade of Guards Red, this Targa sports a fiberglass RSR/IROC-style front valence and rear bumper, a custom front splitter, and a fiberglass Whale Tail rear spoiler and decklid.  The seller states that several panels were refinished over the years, mostly during the period of modifications between 1996-2008.  Some stone chips are noted throughout the exterior as well as a paint-blend line right below the middle of the rear window and some imperfections towards the upper corners of the bumpers where they meet the fenders.  Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  The 16” Fuchs wheels measure 7” wide in front, 9” wide in the rear, and come fitted with steel lug nuts and Toyo Proxes T1R tires dated from 2008.

Inside, you will find a black interior with a Safety Devices 6-point bolt-in roll cage, harness bar, and Recaro SRD sport seats.  A MOMO steering wheel has also been installed along with a Wevo shifter, full-length rearview mirror, and MOMO pedals with an adjustable accelerator.  The sound system has also been overhauled with upgraded speakers and an Eclipse stereo.  All gauges and accessories are reported to be working properly including the A/C which features an upgraded Nippon compressor.

Under the care of the second owner, an upgraded 3.6L flat-six Porsche 964 engine was installed and rebuilt by B&H Motorsports of Washington with new rings, bearings, cam chains, and exhaust valves.  The engine is paired with a 915 5-speed manual gearbox featuring an upgraded clutch and lightweight flywheel.  The engine has also been upgraded with a Weltmeister performance chip, B&B stainless steel exhaust, and a 20” front-mounted oil cooler.  The suspension has been upgraded with 21mm/28mm torsion bars, 22mm sway bars, Turbo tie rods, Bilstein HD front struts, and Bilstein Sport rear shocks.  The car was lowered and corner balanced, and all suspension work is said to have been completed by Speedware Motorsports of Washington.  The brakes have also been upgraded with Porsche 944 Turbo front calipers, Carrera rear calipers, Pagid brake pads, slotted cryogenic rotors, a Turbo master cylinder, stainless steel braided lines, and a brake bias adjuster.  The has reportedly been driven approximately 1k miles since the installation of the upgrades and a fresh oil and filter change have been carried out in preparation for sale. Service records are available for reference in the photo gallery along with images of the undercarriage.

This sale will include a set of keys, owner's manuals, the original window sticker, a binder of service records, a center-exit exhaust with spark arrestors, and a clean title.  A visceral Targa fit for passionate air-cooled drivers, this 3.6L 911SC is just waiting to be enjoyed.

@Ls9009 , for example, if there is a current bid of $40K, which resets the clock to 2:15, and you know that you will bid more, how does it help you to potentially save if you wait until only a few seconds left? If someone outbids you, the clock will reset and you will need to place a higher bid to win the car, regardless of whether you place the bid at 2:00 or 0:05. There is no advantage gained, other than dragging out the auction.

@WReiter its simple...no reason to pay more than one has to.

@sveth986, nice bidding! I don't know the rationale behind all of these bidders who wait until the last seconds to bid--each bid resets the clock to 2:15. That is tedious.

@Adoptagreatpet Ric, good morning. I am a repeat seller on PCar and have sold many cars with them. Please feel free to check with them on the integrity of what I do and my representation of the cars I sell. I do my best to describe them in the most honest way possible.

This car runs and drives extremely well without issue, handles amazing and the engine is very strong (also has great compression numbers as you see). Please remember this is a car from 1982, but I feel that all the upgraded and modifications have made it more reliable. I am in no ways representing that it is a perfect car but most of the flaws are some cosmetics which are mentioned in the listing as well as represented in the photo gallery. I included all I know about the car.

As far as the Targa Top, it fits very tight, does not squeak or rattle. I have not driven the car in the rain so I don’t know if there are any leaks, but there is no indication that there have been in the car in the past. I have had many targas over the tears and this top does seem to fight very tight.

I hope that helps and good luck with the bidding.

A beautiful car. I just hope you are being totally honest about the condition of the car and is reliable. PC car market reply’s on it’s sellers integrity and they limit the numbers of cars they sell. I hope I can bid high enough. Does the TARGA TOP fit well and NO LEAKS! Thank you. Ric

@TransaxleJoe Joe, Thanks for reaching out.

I don’t actually offer financing, but I refer any customers that need it to LightStream. They are owned by Suntrust bank and will finance just about anything at good rates as long as your credit is decent. Sometimes they will even do it as an unsecured loan.

The app is all online and very easy to use and you get a response fairly quickly.

Has there been any fluid leaks? Some of the photos, such as 146, look like there may be a problem.

Hello to all the potential bidders. Please feel free to reach out and ask any questions you have. This is a very fast and strong running car. The 3.6L pulls very strong and feels great. The suspension is set up just right and the brakes are excellent. I have just asked PCar Market to upload compression number pictures of each cylinder, but these are the numbers which are very strong.

    #6 200
    #5 195
    #4 197
    #3 199
    #2 194
    #1 198

Pictures should be up soon. Thank you.

@Acos183 Hello and thanks for reaching out. There are no leaks in the engine or transmission. The underside photos in the gallery do a very good job of representing what it really looks like. I am going to post compression numbers with pictures later tonight.

As far as records, the family that I got the car from, bought it from the person who built it thinking they were going to go club racing with the car and never did. The car sat in their collection of cars and had in house oil/fluid changes on a bi-annual basis, but because they did it themselves, there are no hard records for that. They put a total of 1000 miles on the car from the time they bought it. I hope that helps. Any other questions, please don't hesitate.

  • Acos183 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hello, there can you advise if there are any oil leaks on engine & transmission? Would you have a compression/leak test ?
Also, all the maintenance records attached are more than 20yrs old, don’t you have records for this last 20 years ?
