Up for auction is this 1982 Porsche 928 finished in Light Blue Metallic over a dark blue leather interior. Sold new out of Asheville, North Carolina, this 928 is said to have remained with its original owner up until 2013 when it was thoroughly refurbished and eventually sold in 2015 to a new owner in Tennessee.  After some fire damage occurred in the Fall of 2020, this 928 was acquired by the seller who restored the car to the condition we see today.  Now with just over 38k miles showing on the odometer, this 928 is being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania.

This 928 comes finished in its original color of Light Blue Metallic (30T) and features optional body side moldings.  Following the fuel-line fire damage in 2020, this 928 was fitted with a replacement fender, hood, front bumper, and wiring harness from a donor Porsche 928 of the same year.  Some damage is noted on the rear bumper as well as a few small imperfections throughout the exterior, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a full CARFAX report. The 15” Phone Dial wheels have been powdercoated silver and dressed in a set of Kumho Ecsta LX tires.

The dark blue leather interior has been overhauled with a rebuilt cruise control module, gauge cluster, power antenna, and power locking system, as well as installation of a new Blaupunkt Bluetooth radio, new window switches, sunroof switches, and horns. The air conditioning system has been converted to R134 and fitted with a new compressor, rebuilt radiator, and condenser. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Power comes from a 4.5L V8 which produces up to 220 HP and 245 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels by way of a 3-speed automatic transaxle. Recent service includes the installation of a new wiring harness, rebuilt radiator, rebuilt fuel injectors, new fuel lines, a new hood liner, a new coolant reservoir, steering rack boots, timing belt service, and a wheel alignment.  The seller adds this 928 has passed safety and emissions inspections for the state of Pennsylvania.

This sale will include a rebuilt title. A well-sorted example of Porsche's iconic grand tourer, this low-mileage 928 awaits its next caretaker.

@checkmate1996 thank you. A lot of love an sweat went into car. Some of that love and sweat went into recovering the dash and console in new leather. Unfortunately the leather was rather thick and it didn't settle as nicely as I would have hoped in the colder temps. Some heat should do wonders for it.

The original leather dash had shrunken around the defrost vents which is very common as you are aware.

The interior was unaffected by the fire. Thanks again for the comments

Impressive work from where it started. Somebody is going to get a deal. I am curious on why alot of the dash, center console, pod, etc are sagging. Was that due to the fire?

@eurocol Good point on the seats These early 928s have a pleated pillow cushion with glued standing seams that do not stand the test of time well. Unfortunately, the glue breaks down and the pleats and pillows tend to shift early in the life cycle.

This car was purchased from the insurance auction so I do not have service records before my ownership. A quick google search of the VIN will show you the online auction catalog from Barrett Jackson in 2015 with some information on miles etc. I will add a copy of the printed auction catalog page from that time as well. I will also add a pic taken when the car arrived to me with the fire damage.

Carfax supports the mileage and I have had contact with the previous owner supporting as well.

    Thanks for the interest!

  • eurocol (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    I love these car,

the color and the auto are both pluses for me.
However can you please post service records to back up the miles?,
The driver's seat sag and wear would indicate much more than the 38,250 shown.

Can you also post pictures of the damage from the fire, prior to the repairs.

    Thank you.

    @Bankrep40. Thanks for your bid!

A point worth nothing is that both of the original aluminum ball joints have been replaced with the steel versions over the summer. The original aluminum items were prone to sudden failure and Porsche started replacing them in 1983.

@AirtekHVAC thank you! You are too kind ! I am a little torn about the sale. Indoor space is at a premium for me and I have three projects actively going at the moment. The 79, the 80 Euro and the 931. It seems I enjoy the save so I guess the cycle continues!

  • GuyS (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@mikeyv883 @mikeyv883, Michelle Pfeiffer has good taste. !

Woah! Can’t believe your selling this one bro!

Folks, won’t find a better person to deal with, and this car will be more than you dreamed of!

    Good Luck with sale Guy!

@tompinky Exactly! This is my third fire car that I recommissioned. 944s suffer the same issues with age. Roger at 928sRus can supply quality hoses as can Greg at Precision. Either option is better than original with increased protection. I don't own any 928s without changing the hoses. Small amount to prevent a catastrophic loss.

  • GuyS (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@tompinky yes. I have seen this color called Iris Blue as well and it appears very close is not identical. Unlike so many classics, these really do drive like modern cars in every way. I am a member of the OC. Thanks so much for the interest !

  • tompinky (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@BarryJWilliamsSr. it's a known item with these cars and is essentially a service item. It appears that GuyS has updated the line to better than stock.

  • tompinky (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@GuyS, I had a 1979 5 speed in what I believe was Iris Blue that looked just like this. I had that car for 14 years, but marriage and step kids mad me buy a 4 door (1990 Q45). I do have a 1990 928 auto now though and can't even explain to people who don't get it how nice these cars are to drive (and get noticed in) If I didn't have mine already I'd be on this. Are you a member of the 928 owners club? tompinky

  • GuyS (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@BarryJWilliamsSr. It's amazing how well the design has held up. Still looks distinctive without being dated. The rebuilt title should keep the pricing affordable for the next buyer as these cars are definitely on the move upward. Thanks for the interest and let me know if you need any further info!?

  • BarryJWilliamsSr. (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Thanks for the answer about the fire. It is a shame about the branded title but your answer gives me confidence to bid.
The 928 was a great car that should have stayed around .

  • GuyS (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    @URS6 thank you ! I have a 79 5spd and an 80 Euro S 5spd. It's an affliction:)

  • PCARMARKET_MODERATOR 2 years, 3 monthsago

@URS6 The listing has been corrected, thank you.

  • URS6 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@GuyS I've got an '80 5-speed. Not as low mileage as yours, but I love it!

  • GuyS (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@URS6 right on! I will have them make the changes! Thanks for checking in!

  • URS6 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Looks like a few errors in the write-up; Car has 15" phone dial wheels, 3-speed automatic and 220HP. Otherwise, a very nice old body 928 here!

@BarryJWilliamsSr. Thanks for the questions. Fire was caused by the fuel supply hose on the passenger side of the car. These are a rubber, steel combination line that must be replaced as these cars age. ALL fuel hoses have been replaced with rebuilt, high pressure lines. The sunroof functions perfectly and I will add pics and video of it in operation. Thanks again

  • BarryJWilliamsSr. (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

What was the cause of the fire and what was replaced and repaired to make the car roadworthy again? I noticed that the sunroof is not shown open. What is the cause of this issue?

  • GuyS (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    Hi all!

My name is Guy and I am the seller of this gorgeous 928. This car was my obsession for the past year and I have enjoyed every minute of the journey. I love these cars and own multiple 928s. I am starting a couple new projects so it's time to bid farewell to this one. I am here for any questions! Thanks for checking my car out !
