Available for auction is this 1982 Porsche 928 S finished in Chiffon White over a brown leather interior. A major update for Porsche's iconic grand tourer, the 928 S received a larger 4.7-liter V8 engine producing as much power as a contemporary 911 Turbo. This example has been modified with a Borla exhaust system and is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Pennsylvania showing approximately 51k miles on the odometer.

Finished in Chiffon White, this 928 S features black-painted spoilers and body-color side moldings as well as pop-up headlamps, integrated front fog lights, a rear lid with a glass window, a rear wiper, a sunroof, and dual exhaust outlets. The anodized finish of its 16” forged-aluminum disc wheels impart an exclusive look to the 928 S, which are dressed in Yokohama S Drive tires. The seller notes some paint imperfections were touched-up under prior ownership, the sunroof appears to get stuck on the seal, and the rear hatch release has stopped working. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the brown leather upholstered cabin accommodates electrically operated full leather front seats and matching “PORSCHE” logo carpets. The 928 S comes equipped with cruise control, an electronic central warning system, electrically adjustable mirrors, a locking glovebox, a headlamp cleaning system, and four stereo speakers. The seller states that there are some signs of aging and wear throughout the cabin.

The 928 S debuted a new 4.7-liter V8 engine producing up to 300 HP and 284 lb.-ft of torque. This example is equipped with a 3-speed automatic transaxle sending power to the rear wheels. To match the increased engine output, Porsche suited the 928 S with larger brake pads and thicker discs than its predecessor. This 928 S has been upgraded with a Borla exhaust system and recent service items are said to include the replacement of the battery and fuel injection relay.

This sale will include a clean title.

Is the title in your name, or open in PO’s name?I’m an out of state bidder so don’t really care either way. Thanks

@eunos1990 I didn't receive any records. The car was in his home garage and he has been in bad health for some time. He had 2 cars. He was on crutches for a long time apparently and the inspection sticker was at least 7 years old. The speedo and odometer and trip work. He loved the card but couldn't enjoy them anymore.

@Stonewall Good morning. I did not see any info in the description, nor pictures, of any service receipts, specifically regarding the timing belt. Any indication of it EVER being replaced in 40 years? And I'm a little concerned about the infamous odometer gear failure so common on Porsche/VDO (and BMW) gauges: For the first 10 years, this was driven about 5k/year (82-92), then only registered 4k in 22 years (possible failure)? And subsequently only 500 in the past 8 years (200 you've driven recently)? Your thoughts? Lastly, any idea how old the tires are? I tried to research the DOT info but had trouble decoding CC8J - most newer tires list the week and year of production (ex. 4017 would be the 40th week of 2017). I believe the S.drives were manufactured from '07-'17 but think these may be an early set? Regardless, the sidewalls look good with no obvious dry rot. Do any service records accompany this car (provide pictures)? Thank you and GLWTA!

@iamlostru I put about 200 mes on it without any issues so far.

@gshibayama I was told it was an S by prior owner. Ithink this is the lower horsepower based on the 4.7 liter badging under hood. I didn't think 300 horsepower wS around until the 5.0 was used.

    A couple of questions.

    - I believe, for the US spec 928s, first model year should be 1983. But this car’s VIN indicate 1982 model year. Are you sure this is 928S (not S conversion of base 928)?

    - I this is US spec 928”s”, it should be 234hp, instead of 300hp mentioned above. Can you explain?

It is obvious good model driver showing use. The maintenance seems reasonable.
Is there any reason this car could not be started and driven safely AND CONFIDENTLY to it's new home....say bout 1000 miles?

@automotiveartist the rear hatch latches but the key tumbler won't open it. I can manually release it from inside.

  • automotiveartist (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Can you close the rear hatch with the key?
