Sold new out of Asheville, North Carolina, this 928 is said to have remained with its original owner up until 2013 when it underwent comprehensive refurbishment. Finished in Light Blue Metallic over dark blue leather, this 1982 example features optional body side moldings along with 15” Phone Dial wheels. Following some fire damage in 2020, this 928 was meticulously restored under a prior owner. Previously sold on PCARMARKET, it is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida while showing just under 39k miles on the odometer.

This example comes finished in its original shade of Light Blue Metallic (30T) and features optional body side moldings. Following the fuel-line fire damage in 2020, this 928 was fitted with a replacement fender, hood, front bumper, and wiring harness from a donor Porsche 928 of the same year.  It rides on silver powder-coated 15” Phone Dial wheels dressed in Kumho tires from 2020. Some spider webbing on the rear bumper is noted along with some tree sap spots. detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report.

The cabin presents dark blue leather upholstery, overhauled under previous ownership with a rebuilt cruise control module, gauge cluster, power antenna, and power locking system, as well as the installation of a new Blaupunkt Bluetooth radio, new window switches, sunroof switches, and horns. The air conditioning system was converted to R134 and fitted with a new compressor, rebuilt radiator, and condenser. The seller notes the driver's seat cushions show wear and the rear center console fabric has a slight tear. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Power comes from a 4.5-liter V8 which produces up to 220 HP and 245 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transaxle. The seller states the engine has been completely rebuilt by Renn Haus, including attention to the timing belt, water pump, engine seals, wire harness, and fuel lines. Service also included a rebuilt radiator, rebuilt fuel injectors, new fuel lines, a new hood liner, a new coolant reservoir, steering rack boots, and a wheel alignment. Additionally, the catalytic converter was replaced with a muffler/resonator setup.

This sale will include a rebuilt title, owner's manuals, a spare tire, and a toolkit.

The seller would like you to know: "The car in question here is a 1982 Porsche 928, a grand touring car that left its mark in the 80s and future decades to come with its innovative technology and sports car ethos. This particular 928 is a very neat and finished example that is hard to come by these days. I hope everyone gets a chance to see the car for what it is and what I've come to love about it, a beautiful touring car with heavy euro styling and an exciting experience."

82, 3 speed auto, rebuilt title, very bad dash and pod recover job, all make for a very hard sale. Unless you really want to keep it, I'd take the best offer available. I do think it is at least a $10K car, as a great driver/cruiser. It may be hard to insure in some states though.

@MB-porsche I 100% agree these 928s are all under valued and under appreciated it’s an amazing grand touring car and the ones that are put together like this one never let their owners down hopefully there’s a bit of a resurgence for these cars soon because they could rival the 911s of their time.

https://rennlist.com/ You will find a good link when Guy restores the car, Lovely color! some more work inside and this will be a wonderful car, it seems that the leather has streets on the dashboard, and then to get the correct Corda to insert in the seats and you will have a super nice 928 in a rare color, this car runs forever! have 250,000 km + on my 1979 and engine have newer bean open, just normal service and the car is 100% original, I think all this 928 are undervalued today, and they are nor complicated cars if you just take your time to understand! and reenlist or other special guys that just work on the 928 will fix this small issue cheap! The 928 community is growing fast, and today these are small cars! the newer 911 are bigger car and is not for nothing this was the sports car of the year 1978. well, head of is time and more or less ready 1972, that is amazing! This is Porsche's history and a design that holds even today!

@TexasTRex Thank you for all your questions I’ll answer them in the order you asked.
The history of the car goes like this it was one owner up until 2013 then it was passed to new owner who had it about 2 years and then sold it in 2015. The owner had the car for about 5 years and then a fuel line rupture caused the car to be a total loss. This owner then sold the car to the another who oversaw the car’s restoration. The owner had the car for 2 years after the restoration when they sold it on a previous PCarmarket Auction in 2022. The winner of that auction had the car for about a year and half and then sold it to the current owner today.

As for the timeline on the miles. The miles in it’s previous auction were clarified by the owner to be accurate it’s not uncommon for these cars to be stored for years on end and not see a lot of driving time hence the mileage you mentioned from 2008-2015. These early model seats also had pleated seats which were prone to wear and I have seen a fair number with similar mileage in this shape. I can assure you though the seat is still plenty comfortable.

The engine was rebuilt in 2020 due to the fire I didn’t personally oversee the rebuild nor was it rebuilt in the current owners ownership of the car but according to the previous owner it was resealed and had anything that was made of rubber replaced.
Yes this rebuild was done after and because of the fire.
The dash was recovered at some point it’s in life I believe it was in 2013 when the second owner took possession of the vehicle. The interior remained untouched from the fire.

The current owner recently had the oil changed and had a door handle replaced on the car.

I do believe the CARFAX shows the title being handled like this as a way of saying a dealership received the car to help track its history.
The most accurate way to get info on this car will be to refer to the previous PCarmarket auction this one had back in 2022 the owner at the time was very informed on the history of the car and explains a lot of the circumstances around its history restoration and ownership.

This 928 has nothing to hide except a solid power plant of an engine and the iconic Porsches derived handling that everyone loves about these cars. It is assuredly one of the most solid 928s out there right now and it’s a turn key ready car waiting for a new owner who will use it as it was meant to be, a grand touring masterpiece.

@Chrisngill22 Can you give us some more history on the car? 228 miles drive in 17 years (2008-2015) Seat looks like it has a lot more than 38628 miles? Engine rebuilt - Upper and lower ends? Assuming it was after the fire but was it done because of the fire? I would like to get a little more detail on the time line. Copies of receipts? Was the dash recovered after the fire? Want did the current own/you do vs previous owners? Carfax shows several ownership changes since fire damage but that could just be the way Carfax sometimes deals with dealer transfers. I am very interested but also have interest in a newer 928 whose auction ends before this one, so the more info I can get the more I will be interested in yours. Thanks.

@Guyrichie the paint that the car is wearing is a respray but it was resprayed with its factory color which according to the door jamb is Hell Blau Metallic.

  • Guyrichie (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

One to watch, is that a factory color or a straight respray? glwts
