We are pleased to present the Spyder 928 by Wingho Auto Classique Inc.  Developed by Dr. Clyde Kwok, founder of Wingho Auto and professor of aerodynamics and mechanical engineering, the Spyder 928 is a handmade aluminum/steel-bodied sports car designed to capture the spirit of Porsche’s original Speedster combined with the well-balanced modern platform of the 928 grand tourer.  Following the development of the prototype version which was featured in many automotive publications including European CarExotic Cars, and Motor Magazine, this project was commenced in 1995 and completed after two and a half years by skilled craftsmen in Quebec.  It retains the original chassis and 4.5L V8 engine from a 1982 Porsche 928 with a 5-speed manual transaxle sending power to the rear wheels.  Painstakingly crafted and carefully engineered, this full-production version Spyder 928 is now being offered for auction by Wingho Auto Classique out of Montreal, Canada.

The original bodywork and glass of the 1982 928 were removed and replaced with handcrafted panels finished in Porsche Silver Metallic.  The front fenders, rear quarters, bumpers, and door shells are constructed from steel while the hood and trunk lid were made from aluminum.  The original dimensions and wheelbase for the 928 chassis have been retained.  The simple and aerodynamically effective styling includes a low-profile wraparound windscreen, a roll-over hoop, streamlined mirrors, and a front fascia with integrated lighting and air ducts.  The Spyder 928 rides on aluminum 17” MOMO wheels dressed in Pirelli P Zero tires.

The cabin of the Spyder 928 echoes the classic layout of early Porsche Speedster models.  The driver and passenger are situated within supportive MOMO Corse bucket seats with safety harnesses.  The body-colored dashboard blends seamlessly into the center console which houses a custom-designed short shifter assembly.  The smooth contoured inner door panels are recessed with a single grab handle and internal latch mechanism.  A three-spoke MOMO steering wheel sits ahead of a 928 instrument cluster with an odometer reading just over 400 miles.

This Spyder carries the same 4.5L aluminum V8 engine from the 1982 Porsche 928 it was built upon.  The engine has been gone through and the heads were ported and polished for improved performance.  The rear wheels are driven through a Porsche 928 5-speed manual transaxle.  The brakes and suspension were also carried over from the 928 and paired with a custom front sway bar for improved handling.  All routine service has been kept up to date by Wingho Auto Classique and the car has been fully prepared for its next owner.

This sale will include a scale model and a clean title.  Offering the power and refinement of the Porsche 928 coupled with a lightweight and visceral Speedster-style layout, this incredibly unique hand-built custom vehicle was designed to please the most discerning driving purists.  Do not miss out on this very special opportunity.

Just to be clear to all parties interested in our creation . This is not the modern Spyder, which was a copy of our fibreglass car. This is a hand crafted metal bodied car. One of a kind.

@Magicalmachine you have good taste Sir. I don’t know what it takes to drive this car in California, however the exhaust can be put back to the 1982 specifications without any problems .

"Simply awesome!" Dear Wingho I wish California would allowed your 928 spyder to be driven street legally here. I would bid on this 928 in a heart beat. An museum sculptured piece that you can admire and drive daily. Imagine, only one in the wold and it's body panels are built from aluminum and steel, not fiberglass or composite...2 thumbs up!

Imagine how many 928 Spyders they could have sold in the 1980's if they looked and sounded as good as this!

  • Wingho (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Frank yes indeed. That is why the car sounds so good. Nothing beats the growl of a 928.
As far as parts go , we have a full inventory of used and new( old new stock) parts for this car. And there are many Porsche parts suppliers in the US and Canada.

@356a the roll bar is supported by the 2 curved bars as shown and it'll manually unscrew each individually , and the bar will drop down into the rear body section.(circular cavity in the back)
The front wind deflector and side windows are made of Lexan . Like I said earlier, it can be part of a museum collection, as the only one in the World alloy body 928 Spyder or driven on a beautiful sunny days to a show or fun scenic drive. This car is registered as a Porsche 928 , 1982 here in Quebec, Canada.

  • Wingho (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Terra Yes the video will be posted shortly. I would recommend good eyewear, like Briko sunglasses to protect from bugs. To be fully secure a full face helmet is perfect. I usually drive it with the Sunglasses. The wind in the face, is like riding a 4 wheel motorcycle.

  • 356a (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

In the video you state the " Roll Bar" is retractable? How does this work? Can a video be made to to show operation? Is the windshield, front and sides, glass or plexiglass? In your opinion could this car be part of a collection , but also be driven on good days for fun and to show? Again verifying that this, as is, would comply to be titled/licensed in the US.

  • Terra (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

My comment was obviously directed to the seller. Sorry.

  • Terra (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@356a Can you post a cold start and driving video? As I understand it, this is a re-bodied car with the original chassis and drivetrain left intact. I would also assume that due to the low windshield one would have to use a helmet w/shield to drive it at any significant speed.

  • Wingho (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@356a car weighs 2800lbs, a regular 928 is 3300 lbs (approx), I’m sorry I wasn’t able to confirm the exact mileage before the build yet .Everything was redone and put to new to the best of our ability. Once the project started , we change and updated everything that needed to be done.
The mileage indicated on the dash , is the mileage put on after the creation was built. The low mileage is due to the fact that we wanted to keep the car as low mileage as possible as our collection car. Its been carefully and properly preserved and each time we drove her, each Km were enjoyed to the fullest.
The tires are 25 years old and are Pirelli PZeros . I will post more pictures of the dash cluster tomorrow. No previous service records. This is a museum car that can be displayed in a collection or can be used , driven and enjoyed. And is perfectly able to be driven and enjoyed daily.

  • 356a (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

What does the car weigh? Have you confirmed What was the mileage if the original 1982 928 prior to the build? Assume the milage posted is only after the custom build? Better picture of the instrument panel please? Type and age of tires? Any prior service records?

  • Wingho (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

    @356a it’s titled as a Porsche 928 ,1982
( reconstructed) Yes it can be imported to the US. It was originally a us car . It’s the original 928 gas tank and it’s located in the rear trunk . Original location.

  • 356a (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

How is the car titled. Can it be imported into the US. Is there a better picture of the instrument panel? Where is fuel tank and how large?

  • Wingho (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@artichoke good morning. I believe there was less than 50,000 miles on the original donor car. I will confirm this. However this is all a matching numbers car, and the engine was totally refreshed as you can see. The drive train is all original Porsche and we refreshed and updated everything as can be seen in the photos.

  • artichoke (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

How many miles were on the 928 before this car was built? Any modifications to the drivetrain?

  • Wingho (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hey everyone! Thanks for looking at our beautiful creation. Its basically ,as one of the chief executives from Porsche said, before the Boxster was Premiered in Detroit Auto show, "this look like our car... " I replied, No its a Boxster on Steroids. We have 2 extra cylinders and the engine is in front. Not only does it look amazing , its runs and sounds so well. Its awesome in every way. Its hard for me to let go but time to swap out some of the collection. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
