Up for auction at no-reserve is this low-mileage 1983 Mazda RX-7 FB presented in Sunbeam Silver Metallic. Famous for its unique Wankel rotary engine, the RX-7 is among the most celebrated sports cars of all time with its roots firmly established in motorsports.  A true time capsule of a car, this 1983 example represents the first generation of the RX-7 and features a 3-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels.  Remaining highly original and with just over 39k miles showing on the odometer, this remarkable RX-7 is now being offered for auction without reserve by its seller out of California.

The Sunbeam Silver Metallic finish has been well preserved while showing some patina and cosmetic imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery.  The tops of both bumpers are said to have been refinished by the current owner to alleviate sun damage.  A 1983 Texas registration remains in the windshield as a testament to the car’s originality along with a commemorative IMSA/GTU Manufacturer’s Championship sticker.  For the mid-cycle update of the first-generation RX-7, the model received integrated plastic bumpers, black rubber side moldings, and wraparound taillights.  Factory 4-spoke 13” alloy wheels have been retained and were recently dressed in brand new Advanta tires in preparation for sale.

Inside, this RX-7 features a black interior with grey fabric upholstery and red-striped seat centers.  Some separation of the vinyl upper door panel upholstery is depicted, and the interior is said to be in otherwise great shape with the gauges and air conditioning remaining fully functional.

Power comes from a carbureted 1.2L 12A rotary engine which was rated at approximately 100 HP from the factory.  Using variants of this platform in the RX-7’s inaugural year of racing, Mazda was able to claim the 1979 GTU series championship.  The rear wheels are driven by way of an optional 3-speed automatic gearbox.  All available maintenance history is shown on CARFAX and the seller has offered to provide an oil service upon sale to the next owner.

This sale will include the original manuals, tools, spare tire, and a clean California title.  A collector’s item with under 40k miles traveled from new, this RX-7 offers an incredible value.

Wow. What a steal. Of course you always have to worry about the seals in these engines, no history here, so if never done may need to be replaced soon. Still, a great, well-preserved RX-7, except for the automatic. New owner must be ecstatic.
