This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL is finished in Signal Red over Beige leather and powered by a 3.8-liter M116 V8 engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It was acquired by the seller in 2021 from its previous owner of 30 years who added approximately 4k miles during his ownership. It has been driven less than 1k miles since while undergoing major services including a new convertible top, timing chain, valve cover gaskets, fuel injectors, rear shocks, brake calipers, fluids, and more. Showing about 120k miles on the odometer and with approximately 5k miles driven over the last 32 years, this R107 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of North Carolina.
This SL-Class is finished in Signal Red with a removable body-colored hardtop, a black convertible roof, custom pinstripes and monograms, and chrome trim for the wheel arches, bumpers, mirrors, door handles, front grille, and window moldings. It rides on factory 14” Bundt light alloy wheels dressed in Hankook Kinergy ST tires from 2019. The seller notes European-spec headlights have been installed and the rear chrome fender flares were replaced during their ownership along with the convertible top and rubber seal. A minor rust spot was repaired and touched up on the lower right screw hole of a headlight trim piece, two small paint chips have been touched up, and a very small dent is present on the driver’s door. Inside, this R107 features Beige leather upholstery with matching carpets, a contrasting black dashboard, and zebrano wood trim pieces. Accessories include a black four-spoke steering wheel, power windows, rear seats with lap belts, automatic air conditioning, a heated rear window, an automatic antenna, a folding front armrest, and an aftermarket Pioneer CD stereo. The seller notes the front seats show small splits which have been repaired to prevent further separation. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional including the air conditioning which has been updated to use R134a refrigerant.
This 380SL is equipped with a fuel-injected 3.8-liter M116 V8 engine that delivers up to 155 HP and 196 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission. The car is equipped with power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes and an independent suspension with double wishbones in front, a diagonal swing axle in the rear, and anti-roll bars front and rear. Since purchasing the car in August 2021, the seller oversaw the replacement of the timing chain, valve cover gaskets, fuel level sender, idle air boots and hose, crankcase breather hose, rear shocks, fuel injectors, heater control valve, hood insulation pad, brake calipers, brake pads, and rear brake rotors along with changes of the engine oil, differential, transmission, and brake fluids. driveforfive: The quad headlights weren't part of my purchase, so, no they aren't available. The timing chain was OE single-row and replaced with a new chain and guides.
Does the car come with the original headlights and did the timing chain work noted in the write-up entail conversion from single to double-row, or was it just “routine” maintenance? Thanks.

Considerable service was performed @ 119,000+ prior to my purchase in 2021, and since then by me. The car has only accrued 5,000 miles in 32 years. It's mechanically sound and it runs great!
