Now available for auction is this 1983 Mercedes-Benz R107 380SL finished in Silver Blue Metallic over a Dark Blue interior. Produced from 1971-1989 as Mercedes' flagship roadster, the R107 was also the first SL to offer a V8 engine. This example had been under the care of its second owner from 1985 up until recently and has recently received a major service including fresh fluids, new filters, hoses, belts, fuses, tie-rods, brakes, new timing chains and guides, a new valve cover gasket, and more. Now showing just over 106k miles on the odometer, this 380SL is being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

This R107 was ordered in Silver Blue Metallic (980U) and features a Dark Blue fabric soft top as well as a painted removable hardtop. Equipment includes North American quad headlamps, a power antenna, chrome trim and moldings, front fog lights, and 14” Bundt wheels. The seller notes paint protection film has been applied over the full exterior and reports the passenger door and rear quarter panel have been previously refinished for cosmetic purposes. Some minor stone chips and light scratches are also noted throughout the body, additional images can be found in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The factory wheels are dressed in Hankook Kinergy ST tires.

The cabin is trimmed in Dark Blue upholstery with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include decorative Zebrano wood veneers, cruise control, power windows, power door locks, an aftermarket stereo, and air conditioning. Wear is present on the front seats and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be in proper working order including the air conditioning.

Under the long hood, the 380SL features a 3.8L M116 V8 engine which produced up 155 HP and 196 lb.-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. The R107 was factory equipped with power steering, a fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Records show a new updated engine with a double row timing chain was installed by Mercedes-Benz in 1988 at 42k miles. Recently in preparation for sale, this SL received a thorough mechanical refurbishment including new timing chains and guides, valve cover gasket, brake pads and rotors, inner and outer tie rods, a transmission service, and fresh fluids, filters, hoses, belts, and fuses.

This sale will include a clean title. A timeless and elegant design, this thoroughly serviced R107 presents an excellent value for a classic European roadster.

    @chicagojeff The current and second owner took possession of the vehicle as a vermont resident in 1986. He then moved, to New York State. He has owned the car since 1986. All service records and the current title show he has been the only owner of the car since 1986. The other title/registrations your referring to were registration renewals

  • STEWIL (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    @chicagojeff
    This is two owner car. The current owner is the second owner. He bought it from the first owner in 1986, while living in Vermont. He moved to New York State in 2007 . Carfax shows since 2007, multiple title / registrations renewals. All documentation, including service records all in his name from 1986- 2021.
