We are pleased to present this 1983 Porsche 911SC Coupe finished in Guards Red over a black leather interior.  Representing the final year of production for the 911SC, this 1983 example is said to have been originally acquired in Stuttgart through Porsche’s Tourist Delivery Program, shortly before being imported back to the U.S. where it has remained under the care of 4 owners ever since.  Some noteworthy features include front and rear spoilers, factory optioned Sport Shock Absorbers and a 5-speed manual transmission with an optional limited slip differential.  Having undergone some major mechanical service including a transmission rebuild, a Carrera chain tensioner upgrade, and a Sachs clutch kit,  this 911 is now being offered with approximately 77k miles showing on the odometer by its seller in Colorado, accompanied by original books and tools, an extra decklid, and original Tourist Delivery material.

The classic Guards Red finish is said to be in very good overall condition with only minor cosmetic imperfections including some stone chips and road-going wear.  The driver’s door has been repainted, as well as the rear decklid and Tea Tray spoiler. The standard factory rear decklid is also included and remains finished in its original paint.  All body panels are said to appear original and all panel gaps are reported to be consistent. The side and rear glass are original and in excellent condition, and the windshield was recently replaced.  The markers, turn signals, taillights, and fog lights are clear and free of any imperfections, with the exception of the passenger front signal cover, which has a few minor hairline cracks, and the passenger rear taillight cover, which has a small chip on the upper left corner. Factory options include front fog lights and 16” Fuchs wheels equipped with factory wheel locks and new Continental Extreme Contact DWS high-performance all-season tires.

The black interior is said to appear in good original condition.  The dashboard is shown to be very clean, with a slight wave where it meets the windshield, and one very minor crack on the inside corner of the passenger side defroster vent. The driver’s seat exhibits a small tear in the base, with some failed stitching on each side of the base’s center.  A set of sheepskin seat covers are also included with the sale.  Optional factory features include a Sport steering wheel with a 30mm elevated hub, a black headliner, alarm system, and sunroof which is included as part of the R24 code.  An aftermarket Sony CDX-5070 radio has been installed and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional excluding the air conditioning system, which remains present but is currently inoperable.

Featuring a more robust Carrera 3.2 case for its final year of production, this SC carries an air-cooled 3.0 L flat-six engine that was upgraded with Carrera chain tensioners during a major service at 65k miles.  Approximately 180 HP is sent to the rear wheel through a 5-speed manual gearbox which is said to have been rebuilt at 54k miles along with the replacement of the clutch with a Sachs kit.  The R24 code on the build sticker is also said to be inclusive of the optional limited slip differenital.  Other noteworthy service items include the installation of an airbox pop-off valve, a timing service, new CV gaskets, and more recently in preparation for sale, new rear brake calipers and pads, a brake fluid flush, and a Fresh oxygen sensor for the catalytic converter.  This example is optioned with Sport Shock Absorbers from the factory and a catalytic converter bypass pipe will be included in the sale.  This SC is said to be in excellent running order with a recent leak-down and compression test yielding the following results:

  • Cyl #1: 135 / 2%
  • Cyl #2: 140 / 3%
  • Cyl #3: 140 / 3%
  • Cyl #4: 135 / 4%
  • Cyl #5: 140 / 2%
  • Cyl #6: 142 / 2%

This sale will include a set of 2 keys and 2-wheel lock keys, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, spare tire, the original decklid, some assorted spare parts, a clean title, and documentation for the European Delivery Program.  If you are in the market for a well-sorted air-cooled 911, this beautifully presented European-Deilvered 911SC is not to be missed.

Hello everyone, we are closing in on the last hours of the auction. I wish everyone the best of luck and am excited to see who the winner is!

If you haven’t noticed in the pictures, I added a few shots of the records binder and the tourist delivery window sticker. The documentation on this car is exceptional, I really enjoyed sorting through it in the process of listing it. I think it’s new owner will have a similar experience.

I’m currently driving across country to deliver a GT3 that we sold, but I should have good voice com if anybody has any last minute questions. Feel free to email me if you need my contact or you can find it on our website .

Lastly, if we weren’t already 911SC fans, here’s a little write up of a road trip I took in my personal 911SC last summer. Enjoy!

i would just like to comment that the integrity of Glen Shelly and Alex is above reproach! I purchased my '83 911SC from them and could not be more pleased. They were completely transparent in representing the car! I highly recommend them and you can be assured this 911 is everything they say and represent. GLWTA!!

@CurtGT3RS Thank you! My personal 911SC has the 915 gearbox and I'm in the minority that prefers it to the G50. Mine isn't nearly as good as the one in this car (second will fight me if I'm not gentle). For me it ads to the driving experience. Add a Wevo precision shift joint and shifter and it only makes it better too.

I purchased an 80 SC coupe a month ago. Have to say, I’m so pleasantly surprised by the handling, acceleration, and driving experience it provides. I was a bit worried about a 815 transmission after witnessing the love the G50 gets, but mine shifts precisely and firmly. Good luck to buyer and seller.

@tractorboy Good observation, that is another G-body 911 we are selling. It's a 1987 Carmine Red / Linen G50 that could very well find its way on P Car Market after the SC. There is a great article to be written comparing both of them--I've got it in the works!

  • glenshelly (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@efexforever The air conditioning remains R12, of which I do not have any of. It may just need to be re-charged if you are able to source some. Otherwise it would need to be converted to R134a, which could be done several ways. Here in Colorado, it is common to remove the air conditioning system from air-cooled 911s. With this example, it was best to leave the decision up to the buyer.

@tractorboy Sorry, my bad I see the difference now.

You have an ad on Craigslist with the identical pictures listed as a 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 G50 Carmine Red / Linen and Black. Which ad is incorrect?

How come you have not fix AC?

  • glenshelly (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@ChimpanZed It is owned by Glen shelly. It will come with a Colorado Title in our name, along with a dealer bill of sale, other sale paperwork, and 60 day temp tags.

@glenshelly hi Alex, thanks for the info and excited to see you posting on Pcarmarket. Is this car a consignment or owned by you, the dealer?
