Now up for auction is this 1983 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet finished in Slate Blue Metallic.  Produced for one year only, the 911SC Cabriolet holds the distinction of being the first-ever open-top convertible Porsche 911.  This 1983 example was acquired by the seller from its original owner in the late 1990s at approximately 3,800 miles.  It came factory optioned with a unique blue interior, leather Sport Seats, a Sport steering wheel, and a limited-slip differential. Now showing just over 18,600 miles on the odometer, this 911SC Cabriolet is being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of New York.

This 911SC comes finished in Slate Blue Metallic (661), an attractive shade introduced for the 1983 model year.  The black cabriolet soft top material has been recently replaced and the seller reports the paint to be all original with only minor imperfections present throughout the exterior.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. The brake calipers have been painted red and the factory 16” Fuchs wheels were dressed in a set of new Continental ExtremeContact tires in May of 2021.

Inside, you will find a blue interior (YD) with factory leather Sport Seats and a Sport steering wheel with an elevated hub.  The driver seat bolster had been repaired under the current ownership and some signs of wear are present throughout the cabin as depicted in the photo gallery.  An updated radio has been installed along with an aftermarket battery cutoff switch located in the trunk.  An integrated radar detector system has also been installed under the dashboard, although it is currently disconnected.  The seller notes that the A/C system is currently nonfunctional.

This SC is equipped with an air-cooled 3.0L flat-six engine that generates as much as 180 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual transmission with a factory optional limited-slip differential.  A new aftermarket catalytic converter has been installed and routine oil changes are said to have been kept up to date throughout the current ownership.  The clutch is also said to have been replaced about 10 years ago within the last 10k miles as well as a new alternator in January of 2015. A technician recently noted that one of the rear brake calipers may be sticking intermittently and the issue is scheduled to be inspected by a service center in the coming days.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals, a toolkit, an air compressor, and a clean title. With its low miles and desirable factory options, this 911SC Cabriolet awaits its next owner.

You can clearly see the bright red lift in the pictures

  • SteveSEG (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Ram65 ---incredibly yes. The first owner was elderly, never drove it and i bought it with 3,800 miles on odometer. I seldom used it and only drove locally on nice days, never in the winter.

  • SteveSEG (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@jcbfff ---No everything you see is a reflection. No part of the car has been repainted.

  • Ram65 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    Truly 18,000 miles?

  • jcbfff (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@SteveSEG I see the red reflection on the door, this is the lower portion of the front fender , aproximately bottom 8 or 12 inches. Metallic looks different?

  • SteveSEG (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@euroasianbob -- yes dash was not replaced

  • SteveSEG (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@jcbfff --nothing has been painted. that red looks like its a reflection of the lift they put car on to take pics of underchassis

  • euroasianbob (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Just confirming dash was not replaced but plastic cover installed over top and leather was cut to make fit.

  • jcbfff (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@SteveSEG slide 143 is there a small amount of paint work on the lower portion of the fender or is that just a reflection of somthing? Thanks

Are all of the lights operating correctly?

  • SteveSEG (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@euroasianbob ---heater works and wipers work in all 3 speeds. As I stated in the write up, the fluid dispenser motor isn't working. I am receiving a replacement today.

  • SteveSEG (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Ameyersusa ---No shifting issues up or down, no oil leaks, engine pulls strong. Noticed a slight shake at 60mph driving the 2 hour trip back and forth to Pcarmarket on Long Island. The car had been sitting for a while and i will rebalance the new tires.

  • euroasianbob (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Good morning, can you please confirm there are no grinding issues up shifting or down shifting through the gears, no oil drips, no steering wheel shake/wobble at high speed and the engine pulls strong under acceleration.
    Thank you.

@SteveSEG - with less than 1 day remaining in the auction, I want to summarize the car and issues. I'm the second long term owner and knew the original owner as a neighbor. This car has been well treated and garaged during its life. I am not a serious Porsche expert but have enjoyed this car occasionally as witnessed by it's original miles. I commit to resolving the brake caliper issue which surfaced from the pcarmarket technician review. I don't know the status of the A/C which was blowing until recently. The A/C when operative was marginal at best and still needs RF12 freon. I am selling the car with the understanding that the A/C is not operative and other than relay or fuse will not be fixed. I'm not a dealer or a frequent trader and I represent that the condition I have described the car to be in is accurate. I hope my special car finds a new appreciative owner.

@Prachatice --thank you for your interest. This a numbers matching car and there is no rust. The car has been kept in a garage by myself and the previous owner it's entire life. The dashboard was originally covered in leather and with age, it and the convertible top shrank. The original owner was an elderly neighbor who also lived in New York. He was a financial advisor and some of his clients were Porsche enthusiasts and they cajoled him into buying the new car. He was in his late seventies when I bought it from him.

  • Prachatice 2 years, 5 monthsago

Is my assumption that this is a numbers matching car correct? Why was the dash and top replaced with such low miles? Was it not garage kept? Any rust? Any information you could provide on original owner including location would be appreciated as well. Thank you!

@TheGerman --The A/C blower was working a short while ago but now its not. It will need refrigerant and my mechanic is checking fuses and relays. Not knowing at this point the work needed for the A/C, I chose to say it is not functioning. The technician who spotted the caliper issue and who commented on the tensioner chains as being fine is from pcarmarket. They drove the car and took all the photos. I wasn't aware of the caliper issue while driving to Pcarmarket but I commit to having the caliper issue completely satisfied for a sale. My mechanic is checking both issues. Thanks for your interest.

  • TheGerman (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    What's wrong with the A/C?
Why didn't you let it repair prior of the auction ??
Did a technician of the service center inspect the brake already?
What is/was the reason for this being sticking intermittently of the brake caliper. Thanks

  • SteveSEG (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@bodamane ---Yes I have all the service records showing any major work (top, alternator, clutch, tires etc. and most of the oil and service records.
Other features not mentioned are factory fog lights, headlight washer, electric antenna, and cruise control.

  • bodamane (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Any service records that can be uploaded and/or that will come with the car?

  • SteveSEG (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

I'm the owner. The technician stated the chain tensioners are fine and the engine runs very well. Everything is working except A/C and a windshield fluid dispenser motor which has been ordered. A new dashboard was installed in 2019.
