Up for auction is this 1983 Porsche 944 5-speed finished in Guards Red.  Reported to have been under the care of its original owner up until earlier this year, this 944 has been kept in excellent, highly original condition with approximately 68k miles currently shown on the odometer.  Since the seller’s recent purchase, this 944 has been refreshed with new tires, tie rods, an alignment, and full service.  It is now being offered by its seller out of New Jersey accompanied by original books, tools, and a clean title in the original owner’s name.

The traditional Guards Red finish is said to be in very good condition, indicative of a lifetime of indoor storage.  The paint is believed to be entirely original and the seller reports some slight fading on the front panel between the headlights (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  This example is factory equipped with a removable roof panel, rear window wiper, and 15” Cookie Cutter wheels that come dressed in brand new BF Goodrich tires.  The sale will be accompanied by a new front emblem and rear “Porsche” lettering as well.

The black interior is reported to be in great shape with only minor sagging of the upholstery on the sun visors.  An aftermarket radio has been installed and all gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.  A brand-new set of floor mats will also be included in the sale.

This early 944 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder engine that is capable of sending 150 HP and 142 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle.  Service records have not been obtained from the original owner, although this 944 is said to have undergone some noteworthy maintenance in the last several months including new tie rods, 4-wheel alignment, and a full fluid and filter service.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, original books and tools, a spare tire, new floor mats, a new front emblem, a new rear lettering, and a clean title in the original owner’s name. This beautifully preserved 944 makes the perfect transaxle Porsche for any aspiring enthusiast.

@Caketits hi! My apologies for the delay. Yes there are some cracks in the dash - not sure how to upload the photos, though.

  • Damonp997 (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@TangerineT I apologize I do not know how to upload a photo but I’m looking at the dash now, took photos and yes there are some cracks

  • Caketits (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Any updates on the dash photos? Would bid higher if all questions were answered and photos were more inclusive...

  • TangerineT (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Can you upload some photos of the dash, or at least tell us if it has any cracks? Thank you.

@Litesonic thanks for clearing this up! I was confused myself

  • Damonp997 (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@maybeillbuyit I will have to check this upcoming Saturday. Fluids were recently flushed/changed however I didn’t look closely at the levels. Will update ASAP.

  • Litesonic 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Damonp997 my comment was incorrect, perhaps PCARMarket can remove it.

I was confused with a very similar car on another site... please disregard and accept my sincerest apologies.

GLWA, it looks like a Very Good example!

I just noticed, considering the car has just had a fluid service, the brake reservoir appears to have old fluid and be low, the coolant res looks to be empty or low?

  • maybeillbuyit (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Damonp997 Thx for the reply, Those option codes don't indicate leather or partial leather so the seats must be vinyl. Thx for the quick response.

  • Damonp997 (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@maybeillbuyit thank you for the kind words!

I am away from the vehicle for the next 2 days but I will happily get any additional pics that are requested, starting with the dash beneath the cover. I am also unsure about whether the seats are leather or vinyl, any tips for uncovering that information are appreciated!

@Litesonic Hello! Thank you for your interest. This vehicle is on consignment through my dealership and I am representing it, so bare with me while I gather the answers to certain questions from the owner.

    - As of now the odometer is working perfectly and I was unaware of any indication that it was inoperable at a certain point, so I will have to gather more details there.

    - No records are available as of now for the timing belt service, however we are in contact with the previous (original) in hopes of gathering any additional service records. Same goes for the fuel line replacement - I am away from the vehicle for the next 2 days but I’ll be happy to take close up pics of the fuel line to possibly gather more insight on its possible age.

    - I have a picture of the sticker that I can upload, for now the options are as follows:

    C02 158 423 425 431

Its a very nice looking car, well cared for. Dash is covered, can we see the condition of it? The seats look very nice are they leather or vinyl? They appear to have more grain that what I usually see.

  • Litesonic 3 years, 4 monthsago

Original CL said mileage exempt as odometer was non-op. Is there documentation around the “estimated” mileage? How long ago did the Odometer fail?

    Records for timing belt service?

Fuel line (in engine bay) replacement?

Can we see the option sticker in the rear spare area?
