Founded in 1965 and recognized as an automobile manufacturer by the German Ministry of Transport, the Alpina company is based in the Ostallgäu district of Bavaria and specializes in creating high-performance versions of production BMW cars. The Alpina B6 2.8/1 model is based on the second-generation BMW 3-Series (E30) 323i and features a modified 2.8-liter engine producing 210 HP along with a 5-speed Getrag manual gearbox, stiffer suspension, Girling front brakes, front and rear spoilers, Alpina alloy wheels, and a reupholstered interior with Recaro seats. This 1984 example is one of 259 produced in total between 1983 and 1986. It was imported to the U.S. from Japan about 7 years ago and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania with approximately 86k kilometers showing on the odometer.

The Alpina B6 is distinguished from a standard E30 by its unique badging, deep front air dam, rear decklid spoiler, and 7”x16” Alpina alloy wheels. This example is finished in Delphin Metallic and features optional gold Alpina striping on the sides and lower front spoiler. Accessories include chrome window trim, quad headlamps, front fog lights, power mirrors, an electrically operated sunroof, pop-out rear quarter windows, and a power antenna. The seller notes Dunlop Direzza tires were mounted about 5 years ago and one small scratch is present on the hood as well as a scuff on the lower front spoiler. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin features a pair of Alpina Recaro sport seats trimmed in grey cloth with blue and green stripes along with matching upholstery on the rear seats and door panels. Accessories include a four-spoke Alpina MOMO steering wheel, an Alpina-crested wooden gear knob, Alpina-branded instrumentation, power windows, an onboard computer, a central locking system, air conditioning, a rear window defroster, a locking glovebox, and a Blaupunkt stereo. A commemorative plaque is also mounted on the center console that reads the car’s production number. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional apart from the air conditioning.

This Alpina B6 is equipped with a B6/2 inline-six which is an Alpina-modified BMW 2.8-liter engine featuring lighter Mahle pistons, a performance camshaft, revised combustion chambers, an electronic ignition, and an upgraded exhaust system. Up to 210 HP and 199 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission. The B6 also comes fitted with ventilated Girling disc brakes in front as well as a modified suspension with stiffer Bilstein shocks and shorter progressive springs. The seller notes the fuel system was recently serviced with a new fuel pump and injectors.

This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, some documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This 1984 Alpina B6 2.8/1 is among the earliest examples known to exist of approximately 259 examples manufactured during a production run from late 1983 to mid-1986. The car was first delivered in Germany and exported to Japan in 1987 I acquired this car on Yahoo Japan auction and imported it in 2016-17. This car is a part of my personal car collection and has been stored indoors all this time. I sold most of my BMW’s now and this car also needs to go. I have been really fascinated with Alpina and owned about 7 different Alpina’s from an E12 Turbo to an E34 Biturbo. This is the greatest and second rarest E30 money can buy.”

@Safari911 I have a certificate from Alpina in Order and the buyer will received it with the car.

  • Safari911 (registered bidder) 4 months, 2 weeksago

@mendelsgarage did you ever get the certification of authenticity from Alpina? I noticed that you were trying to get it in the 2020 auction but then no mention of it here.

  • MendelsGarage (seller) 4 months, 2 weeksago

@temillerxx60 Thank you for your interest, Here is a cold start Video https://youtu.be/649SrEKG1pw, the photos of the vin number are listed in photo gallery.

  • MendelsGarage (seller) 4 months, 2 weeksago

@JTM3classics Thank you for your interest, its does looks like the previous owner wanted to give the car a facelift look and changed the rear bumper to newer one. This can be easily corrected. I have a nice pre facelift E30 Euro Bumper, that can be installed prior to delivery. There is no evidence of any previous damage .

  • MendelsGarage (seller) 4 months, 2 weeksago

@temillerxx60 Thank you for your interest. The Alpina VIN photo stamped at the front cowl as well as cold start Video's will be uploaded shortly. The sunroof is manually operated, and the windows are power and both fully functional.

  • temillerxx60 (registered bidder) 4 months, 2 weeksago

Why are simple requests for basic information being neglected here with 2 days to go? Dealer, talk with the seller. Seller, talk with the Dealer. It is a shame neither of you are supporting this car and informing the viewers/bidders with this cars history, good or bad!

  • temillerxx60 (registered bidder) 4 months, 2 weeksago

Hello again Seller. Can you send picture of the Alpina VIN Stamp on the front window cowl. You show the original BMW stamped VIN X’d out on the one side, but I would like to see the Alpina VIN stamp . Also, beside my question/request yesterday that I would like your response, can you video the windows and sunroof working please. Would like to bid again but I need you to document a few things please!

  • JTM3classics (registered bidder) 4 months, 2 weeksago

The bumpers on this car are bringing up some questions. So it appears we have a 88+ world rear bumper, and a painted euro bumper in front( it should be chrome). So rear bumper has certainly been replaced, front has been painted at the very least. Does this point to accidents? Full respray on car? Or simply a previous owner wanting to facelift their E30? Paint depth readings would be helpful in understanding if this car has had any body work done beyond the bumpers being swapped.

  • Zakspeed (registered bidder) 4 months, 2 weeksago

What in Sam Hill is that rear bumper doing on here?

Needs more photos of rust prone areas.

  • rkob6230 (registered bidder) 4 months, 2 weeksago

I owned this identical vehicle in 1984 that I purchased new in Germany. This car is authentic. They are very fast and well balanced. I wish I had never sold it!

  • MendelsGarage (seller) 4 months, 3 weeksago

@rak1161 Thank you for your interest, this Alpina was manufactured in 1984, the production number is #3. This makes it the oldest E30 Alpina B6 known to exist. The odometer is in Kilometers and shows 85750Km - 53282miles. It's likely won't pass smog in CA without some modifications.

  • rak1161 (registered bidder) 4 months, 3 weeksago

Beautiful car. The listing and PCAR write up cite “1984” but your description cites “1986”. Can you clarify what year the car is.
Can you also post a close up photo of the speedometer and tachometer gauges to see if data is in km or miles.
Finally, do you have a sense if this car can clear smog test in CA
    Thanks.

Hello Seller: can you post a cold start and drive video please. Paint meter readings would be helpful also. Thank you.

  • MendelsGarage (seller) 4 months, 3 weeksago

@CABRIOLET-INT What you for your interest. This car unlike many Dealer build cars you are referring to has Alpina VIN. Dealer build cars have BMW "WBA" vin numbers, not Alpina VIN's and they are mostly C-series Alpina's.
This car has an Alpina vin number and its starts with "WAP", like all post 1984 Buchloe Build cars. Also the Alpina vin contains a production number in case of this car is #3 and I am not aware of any Dearer build E30 with M30 motor, because the modifications are rather extensive. I do have an email from Alpina confirming this vin number as well.

  • CABRIOLET-INT (registered bidder) 4 months, 3 weeksago

Very Nice example. Do you have a certificate from Alpina authorizing the car as being authentic? Sorry to ask but there are many clones especially coming out of Japan.

  • MendelsGarage (seller) 4 months, 3 weeksago

@gremlin You are welcome to come and look at the car, please PM me directly to schedule.

  • MendelsGarage (seller) 4 months, 3 weeksago

@Firewood Thank you for your interest, all A/C components are present, I have never bothered fixing the A/C because I never use it. It may need only charge, The compressor is spinnig freely.
