Now available for auction is this 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa finished in Guards Red over a black interior.  Marking the inaugural model year for the Carrera 3.2, this Targa features genuine dealer-installed spoilers, upgraded Turbo lower valve covers, new LED headlights, and some interior updates including heated GTS Classic seats, a MOMO steering wheel, and a new classic-style Blaupunkt radio.  Recently in preparation for sale, this Carrera underwent several maintenance items as well as a thorough inspection and engine leak-down test by Chapman Auto Werks in Virginia.  With approximately 61k miles showing on the odometer, this well-sorted Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Maryland.

This Targa is finished in Guards Red (Indischrot) and the paint remains nicely presented with some cosmetic imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery.  Under the current ownership, the driver’s side of the vehicle is said to have been professionally refinished and blended as a result of minor cosmetic damage from a deer running into the side.  Paint meter readings are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX.  Genuine front and rear spoilers are equipped which are believed to have been installed at the dealer when new.  The original headlights have been swapped out in favor of new LED units from Rennline, and aftermarket 7” x 8” Maxlite Fuchs-style 16” wheels have been installed which feature polished lips and Bridgestone Potenza tires.  The original 6” x 7” Fuchs wheels are also available which the seller has offered to reinstall upon the buyer’s request.

Inside, this Targa highlights a well-kept black interior with new heated GTS Classic seats, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, a new classic-style Blaupunkt radio, and upgraded front speakers.  Coco mats have been installed and the A/C was converted to R134 and recently recharged in preparation for sale.  The seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly at this time.

The air-cooled 3.2 L flat-six engine in this Carrera makes up to 207 HP stock, which is transferred to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.  Upgraded Turbo lower valve covers have been installed and a breakdown of the routine maintenance addressed under the current ownership is provided for reference in the photo gallery along with images of the underbody.  Also provided is an invoice from a recent service and inspection by Chapman Auto Werks which included several new sensors, a new clutch spring, and an engine leak down test which yielded satisfactory results between 95%-97% for all cylinders.

This sale will include a clean title.  If you are in search of a high-quality air-cooled Targa, this 1984 example is not to be overlooked.

@afleffler A new photo has been added to the listing gallery

  • Another911 (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@afleffler - the tires were purchased 6/09. There are no records for any clutch work. Finally, there are no issues with the car. Attached is the invoice with the mechanic’s notes for a PPI and leak down. It is in very good condition! Sorry, but can’t help with seat replacements other than to steer you to eBay. I will send Fuch pics to the sponsor to post. Best - Dave

1-What is date codes on the tires.
2- Do you have documents on when clutch & pressure plate was replaced?
3- Any concerns or issues to address?

My only reluctance is non original parts such as seats. Kindly post photos of original wheels. Thanks for your forthcoming response.

@ nysaabtech. Yes. Spoilers are often removed. I believe there are 4 bolt holes to be filled and the deck painted.

Another911 was nice enough to let me come see the car on his Saturday afternoon and take it for a proper drive on some fun windy roads today. Car drives/sounds/shifts wonderfully. Pictures do not do it justice. Specifically the interior. Looks brand new.

@RAL. Thank you! No. I sold the seats. They were near perfect condition, but decided to replace them because I thought the sport seats were very uncomfortable, and I wanted a lighter colored cloth seat for our hotter summer days in the mid-Atlantic area.

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my auction. I am a 911 enthusiast, having owned a fair number over the last 20 years. I have loved everyone of them, and like most, wish I still had my first - a 1997 993 C4S. I came across this ‘84 Targa two years ago. It was for sale locally by a doctor needing to sell the car because he was moving to a house with only a 2-car garage. I had just completed restoring an ‘89 Targa I bought from a very close friend, so I wasn’t thinking about buying “another 911”, especially not another Targa. When I saw the car I was really taken by the Guards Red paint. Having seen hundreds of Guards Red 911s online, I was really surprised how nice it looked in person. I guess there was a reason why so many people bought them in a showroom. I then took it for a test drive and was amazed at how well it drove, frankly better than any 911 I previously owned. I couldn’t pass it up, so I bought it. Fast forward - I just bought an ‘85 Coupe and have decided to completely restore the interior and rebuild front and rear suspension. I can’t keep up and drive 3 cars so one has to go, and it’s definitely not going to be the one I bought from my buddy who got me started as an air-cooled 911 enthusiast. The buyer of this ‘84 Targa will be thrilled by the way the car runs and looks. I had the car inspected by a highly reputable DC area 911 mechanic. I want to make sure the car is perfectly operational for the new owner to enjoy. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Do you have the original front seats?

    Beautiful car!
