This 1984 Porsche 944 was custom ordered and acquired by its original owner at the factory in Germany through Porsche’s Tourist Delivery program. It comes finished in Guards Red over a unique Linen/Black interior with pinstripe velour inserts. Optional equipment includes anti-roll bars front and rear, an automatic transaxle, cloth door panels, and deletion of body-preservation coating. It returned to Orlando, Florida, and remained with the original owner up until January 2022 when it was purchased by the seller. Showing approximately 91k miles on the odometer, this 944 is now being offered for auction out of Florida accompanied by a lifetime of service history.
This 944 is finished in Guards Red and rides on factory 15” Cookie Cutter alloy wheels dressed in new Riken tires. Some dents and scratches are noted throughout the body, the factory-applied stone guards have deteriorated with age, and the overall color is described to have slightly faded. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is lined with Linen carpeting and features black vinyl seats with pinstriped red velour inserts and optional matching door panels. Other factory equipment includes a cassette and coin holder, a top-tinted windscreen, and a sunroof. A newer Blaupunkt radio has been installed and the seller notes a slight repair to the passenger seat upholstery. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
This first-generation 944 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four engine paired with an optional 3-speed automatic transaxle, delivering up to 150 HP and 142 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Optional front and rear anti-roll bars came equipped from the factory while standard features included four-wheel independent suspension, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, and power-assisted ventilated disc brakes. The cylinder head was replaced by Brumos Porsche of Jacksonville in 1995 at 43k miles and the steering rack was replaced in 1998 at 60k miles. Most recently in 2022, the fluids were exchanged, the steering bushing was replaced, and a new fuel filter and tank screen were installed along with a new rear hatch seal, shocks, struts, a rebuilt A/C compressor, and a new A/C expansion valve.
This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, service records, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

Okay, folks! We have less than twenty-four hours left in this auction. I just want to point out that most offers on 944's are not necessarily "original" cars, but rather "rescues" that were left in a carport or a field for a decade and meticulously brought back to life. This is NOT one of those! This 944 was loved and cherished by its first owner, and all we did was to complete the needed "deferred maintenance" on it to make sure that everything was up to date. We have complete records including the records from the original owner ordering the car from Contemporary Cars (Porsche) in Orlando through top salesman Nort Northam. This is a very special car indeed!
@Mohamsta The "other fix" is to remove the broken plate and replace everything with a manual flywheel, clutch disk and pressure plate without the release arm or throwout bearing. The driveshaft then inserts into the clutch disk, which would be permanently trapped between the pressure plate and the flywheel. You don't have to use new clutch parts - used in decent shape can work. It is a cheap fix. There are plenty of videos online on how to do it.
This car, though, had the plate replaced with the real thing, so it is good - and stock.

@Mohamsta The previous owner had the flex plate replaced on July 16, 2003, at 75,000 miles. Performance Tech in Winter Park, FL did the job. It was $2,402.73 job back then!
Any idea of the condition of the flex damper for the automatic? The part cost alone is $1800.00 not including labor. They tend to deteriorate over time and the rubber center comes apart.

@eunos1990 You are correct - breaking a timing belt creates a lot of problems and a big repair. The recommendation for timing belt change is 50-60K miles, although a car that has not been started or run for many years has the potential for dry rot and should at the very least be inspected. Then, if you're there, you might as well change it. In this kind of situation, though, doing a complete water pump/seal/rollers job might not be needed. This car had the timing belt service at 89,000 miles in early 2016, and it has only had an additional 1,000 miles since then. In the last two years, the previous owner stopped driving the car, but started it and let it run once every two weeks. I have been driving it off and on for the ten months that I have had it, at least one trip every week or so.
So to answer your question - yes, they can "age out" with time if they are left to sit in a garage, carport or a field somewhere. There are other factors that can cause a timing belt failure, too, such as a seized roller or in a more recent case, a lifter (follower) broke and stopped the camshaft, causing the crankshaft gear to strip the teeth off the belt - and bend two valves.

@kevinduffy It would appear you have a great love and knowledge of these particular Pcars! Since I am unfamiliar with them, can you answer the following:
1. How often should the timing belt service be done? 50k? 60k?
2. At what mileage and date was the last belt service?
3. Like tires, do these belts "age" out over time despite not reaching a service interval?
The reason I ask, is I believe these are "interference" motors, and a possible reason for the head replacement once already; scary prospect and expense.

@kevinduffy good piece on the automatic question, I ran across your site recently and found it to be very informative. Although I find the 5 speed manual in my 987.1 Boxster to be an important part of the driving experience I can see the 944 as more of a cruiser where an automatic might be perfectly fine.
@KCRiley According to Hagerty's Valuation Tool, an automatic in a 944-series car will cost 15% deduction over a similar manual trans car, at least in 2020. Their valuation tool today does not note deductions or such equipment anymore. Not sure how the AT affects value but it looks like a solid driver and the documentation is a nice bonus.

So, If we're the lucky winner of your beautiful car (of course, depending on the last day or the last hours of the final bids) and since we live all the way out here in California that would require for us to have the car shipped here .
We're wondering if you would be kind enough to provide access or physical help in having the car shipped (transported) back to us here in California ??

@DVanDillon The cat is there - given the current state of affairs with businesses that work on cars, I would not/could not sell anything without a cat. The only "cat delete" car that I have is my SCCA 924S race car. (It has a lot of "deletes" on it.). That said, the cat is most likely original to the car as I have nothing in hand that says that it has been replaced. When these cats need replacement, they rattle horribly. This one is quiet. I will get underside photos tomorrow morning.

The emissions equiment is likely fine. I have a very similar emissions label on my 968. The key thing you want to see is "CATALYST" which refers to the catalytic converter.
Additionally, once undercarriage photos are posted, you should be able to see the catalytic converter. That would be the physical proof that it's there and acceptable in CA so long as it doesn't exceed the emissions limits.
If the exhaust was modified with a "cat delete" as some folks do, then right away, it would fail smog testing just based on a visual inspection. Doesn't sound like that's the case here with this car.
This one's a beauty! Sound like it's good to go given all the updated maintenance.

@Efariab I have uploaded photos of the emissions sticker from the engine compartment. It says that it meets US EPA regs in force in 1984, but nothing about California. The car was purchased new and delivered in Florida, so this is not surprising. The engine, induction and exhaust are all original spec. I don't know anything about the regs in California, so I leave it up to you to determine what all this means!

We live in California and as you probably know, California has the toughest Emission laws that makes it harder for cars (Especially the older cars) that are registered out of the state .
So, I was wondering if you know that the silver colored emission label in the engine compartment mentions the "state of California" on it ??
Better yet, if you would please, post the picture of that "Emission lable" when you finally get to posting the pictures of the car's under carriage (front to rear) that you had mentioned in your previous comments !

Pcar added four videos. 1) the car driving from a standing start. Note the smooth shifting through all gears. 2) cold start, showing the key on, temp gauge at "cold," tach at "0", oil pressure at "0", then starting. The oil pressure immediately jumps up, car runs and revs smoothly. 3) retracting the "window shade" in the hatch area. It works as designed. and 4) sunroof operation, smooth and as designed.
@kevinduffy I apologize for any confusion. The first buyer's order shows "Sienna Red Metallic" and "Grey Beige" trim. However, the customer changed his mind and wanted instead to go with Guards Red and Black Pinstripe - I uploaded that buyers order today. The first buyer's order was for a 1983 944, posted from January 1983, but there was such a delay in getting 944's delivered that he had a lot of time to think about it. The second order in Guards Red was from September 1983 for a 1984 944, this time in Guards Red. Nort said that when the 944 was introduced in the U.S. in 1983, they could not get enough cars to fill orders for customers. I uploaded a photo of the second order from September 1983 that shows Guards Red and Black Pinstripe. I hope that this helps explain. Sorry that I didn't pick this out myself - good eye!

This beautiful 944 has been loved its entire life! The original owner bought the car from the dealer in Orlando and he took delivery in Germany. Over the decades his health got in the way of him enjoying his baby, and he finally decided to sell it in January.
At 924S944.com, we took care of the deferred maintenance and put everything back in good order. The engine and automatic transaxle work great, and all accessories are up to standard.
The cookie cutters have been refinished by Papke’s Customs - the are powder coated for beauty and durability.
