Up for auction is this custom 1984 Volkswagen Scirocco Type 2 presented in Flash Silver. This iconic 1980’s sports coupe was purchased by its current owner in 1992 before being turned into a show car with a custom-built Techtonics 2.0 L engine, a Kamei X-1 body kit, Euro-spec furnishings and other period modifications. A true vintage show car, this one-of-a kind build is now being offered by its longtime owner out of New Jersey accompanied by historical invoices and a clean title.
During the current ownership in 1996, this Scirocco underwent a professional glass-out respray in Flash Silver. A Kamei X-1 body kit was installed which mimics the appearance of the European-market GTX variant. European front and rear bumpers were also equipped along with European-market lighting, a painted front grille, side marker turn signals, a Fuba antenna and a single windshield wiper conversion. All rubber window seals have been replaced and this VW currently rides on OEM Corrado steel wheels dressed in newer Yokohama S-Drive tires. The paint is reported to be in good overall condition and the rear window is noted to be slightly cloudy by the seller.
The interior has been completely redone under the current ownership with all new carpeting and headliner. Additional sound insulation was installed along with a Neuspeed 3-gauge panel (water temp, oil temp, oil pressure), Flo-Fit seats, a Momo Evolution steering wheel and a Neuspeed weighted short shifter. The pneumatic auto door locks are reported to be nonfunctional and the digital display screen is said to be inaccurate. The odometer and speedometer have been rebuilt and the seller confirms all other gauges and accessories to be working properly.
This Scirocco has been outfitted with a custom-built Techtonics 2.0 L 8v inline 4-cylinder engine. Other upgrades include a 16v Scirocco radiator, ported intake with Neuspeed large-bore throttle body, Tri-Y header with Leistritz Sport exhaust, 268* cams, and a cast-aluminum oil pan with baffles. The front wheels are driven by way of a rebuilt 5-speed manual gearbox with a 16v-spec pressure plate and clutch. Power steering is equipped, and suspension modifications include a Neuspeed upper front stress bar, Techtonics lower front stress bar, an Autotech rear stress bar, Autotech sway bars, and Tokico adjustable dampers. Service and upgrade invoices are included from the current owner and this VW is said to be in fantastic driving order.
This sale will include 1 master key, a spare tire, a product brochure, and a clean title. If you crave nostalgic European styling, this vintage Scirocco show car is not to be missed.
