The Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole introduced the 32-valve DOHC engine, offering improved performance from its mid-mounted V8 along with a distinctive appearance by its black louvered panels on the nose. This 1985 GTSi version is reported to be one of only 19 U.S. market examples to have been finished in the shade of Prugna (Plum). Acquired by the seller out of California on PCARMARKET, it has since been stored inside a climate-controlled facility in Colorado and serviced by the specialists at Maranello Motorworks.

Finished in the rare shade of Prugna, this 308 is distinguishable as a Quattrovalvole model by the black louvered panels on its nose.  As a GTS model, it also features a removable black Targa top. It rides on factory 16” magnesium wheels that come dressed in Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires dated 2019. The seller notes some light scratches and blemishes, along with one small spot of spider cracks on the corner of the rear driver’s side quarter panel just near the tail and a dimple on the front hood, as a result of being pressed on the hood support. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin presents traditional tan leather upholstery contrasted with a black leather dashboard and matching carpets. A gated 5-speed manual shifter is nestled between the two seats, while a leather-wrapped three-spoke MOMO steering wheel sits ahead of analog Veglia instrumentation. An aftermarket Alpine radio has been fitted. The cabin is said to show very well for its age, while some clouding is noted in the center console clock as well as a gap in the carpet/trim near the passenger door and a small tear in the edge of the vinyl cover for the Targa top. The A/C fails to blow cold air but all other electronics and accessories are reported to be working properly.

This 308 Quattrovalvole features a mid-mounted 2.9L Tipo F105 V8 engine with four valves per cylinder and Bosch K-Jetrontic fuel injection. As much as 240 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. A major engine-out service was completed shortly before the previous owner’s purchase in 2019 which included new timing belts and tensioners, an alternator belt, a water pump belt, fuel lines, coolant pipes, and breather hoses. Under the previous ownership another service was carried out in 2020 including all new shocks and springs.  The current owner performed an additional major service in November 2021 which included fluid changes and attention to the transmission selector shaft seal, exhaust gaskets, spark plug wires, ignition rotor, tensioner bearings, and engine belts & bearings. A new water pump and a new rubber gasket and struts for the trunk were also installed. Furthermore, September 2022 saw the installation of a new temperature sender and fuel injectors, followed by new fuel hoses fitted in October 2022.

This sale will include a clean title, one set of keys, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, the original suspension, a straight mid-pipe, a replacement light kit, a fire extinguisher, and an auxiliary frunk light.

The seller would like you to know: “Great running mechanically and beautiful condition interior for its age. 1 of 19 Prugna examples believed to be in the United States.  Super rare color and gets a lot of looks and attention anywhere I go.  All service in the last three years was completed by reputable local indie shop Maranello Motorworks. Stored in a climate-controlled warehouse during my ownership and driven only in spring/summer/fall clear days.”

@smakee These are the stock wheels. I can vouch for that as I was the second owner of this car when I purchased it @ 6100 miles in Los Gatos, CA.

@smakee Fresh oil change and annual check up complete. On the AC question, there is an AC line connection that is cracked and the line would need to be replaced to fix the connection.

Mechanic said paint is likely not original on all panels but paint work was higher quality process to repaint if done.

Wheels are all Ferrari wheels but the 16” wheels were either an option or replacements on the 308. He said it’s hard to know whether the car was delivered with them or they replaced the stock wheels.

  • Warpig (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

Thanks, paint meter would really help,

  • smakee (seller) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

    @5495bb yes they are.

Also, the Tag Heuer decal actually appears to be a vinyl sticker. It’s not a magnet. But it can be peeled off.

  • 5495bb (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

You mention that the Heuer decal is removable, are the fender badges removable as well? Thanks.

  • smakee (seller) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

@Warpig The Carfax is clean. No paintwork during my ownership and none under the previous owner’s tenure. I don’t know prior to the previous owner, but I’ll see if I can get access to a paint meter.

    Any accidents or paint work?

  • GeorgeVosburgh 3 weeks, 5 daysago

@smakee I didn't intend for this to sound negative in any way, sorry about that. The QV cars have to different inner rim sizes. The back wheels have a deep dish look while the front wheels have a rim that is not as deep. This is a widely known fact in the community.

  • smakee (seller) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

@GeorgeVosburgh yes, these were an original spare size of 308s

  • smakee (seller) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

@GeorgeVosburgh please state your source for information if you are going to make a statement like this. The wheels are staggered 7” and 8”, front and rear. As far as I know, the 16x7 and 16x8 are OE spec for 308 and pre ABS 328.

  • smakee (seller) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

    @Fynmere yes, it’s just a magnet.

  • Fynmere 3 weeks, 5 daysago

Such a lovely QV in that rare Prugna color and the very desirably deeper saddle brown interior. Beneath the Pininfarina badge is the 'Chronograph HEUR' logo. Is this a peel off shield?

  • GeorgeVosburgh 3 weeks, 5 daysago

In looking closer, it appears the car is not wearing original QV wheels. These are replacement wheels, the indent rim is the same on all these wheels. QV wheels have a deep dish rim on the back wheels different from the fronts.

  • GeorgeVosburgh 3 weeks, 5 daysago

I'm sure you realize the spare is a 14" wheel. Your car has 16" QV wheels.

  • smakee (seller) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

@ClockWerks I will ask Maranello to take a look at it tomorrow and provide more information.

  • ClockWerks (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

Any idea what the ac needs to get it functioning?

  • ClockWerks 3 weeks, 5 daysago

Bid in the amount of $10,000

  • smakee (seller) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

    Thanks!

Also wanted to add that I will be taking it in to Maranello Motorworks on Saturday for an annual service. So the new owner will have fresh fluids and it will be fully turnkey for the spring/summer driving season.

  • jbauto (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Love the Prugna. This is a pretty honest looking presentation here. GL

  • smakee (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Welcome all! If I can answer any questions please let me know. This 308 has been an absolute delight to own and drive. Happy bidding!
