Up for auction is an exceptional 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe finished in classic Guards Red.  Due to its clean and highly original state, this 911 would be right at home in any collector’s garage.  The car started its life in Georgia, eventually making its way to Pennsylvania where it currently resides.  Showing only 36,106 original miles on the odometer, this Carrera is a prime example of what is so special about this timeless sports car.

This 911 still retains its original Guards Red finish, making it that much more special. The exterior is stated to be in excellent condition for its age and mileage with only a few minor rock chips and a small ding on the back side of the passenger side mirror. This car also retains its original 16" alloy Fuchs style wheels that are wrapped in period correct Goodyear Eagle tires with ample tread.

The black leather interior of this 911 is stated to be in excellent condition with only minor creasing on the driver's seat bolster. This Carrera was ordered with factory options such as a sunroof, alarm system, and a Monterey digital radio. All electrical systems and accessories are in great working order including the A/C. The fully original interior on this 911 helps to make it a rolling time capsule.

This 911’s 3.2-liter flat six engines produces 207HP and accelerates this car to 60 mph in under 6 seconds, still impressive by today’s standards.  Power is delivered to the rear wheels via the desirable 915 manual transmission. This Carrera has been maintained properly throughout its life and is stated to be in perfect running condition. The seller does note that a previous owner, an engineer, fabricated a one-off “axle lift” system on this 911.  This system incorporates a bar underneath the car, fitted with wheels that allow the car to simply roll rather than scrape over surfaces during bottom-outs. This system will not only prevent scrapes, but will protect expensive components from critical damage. (Original bar included with sale)

The sale of this highly original 911 will include a clean Carfax, original tools, keys, spare tire and window sticker; all of which are in good condition. As the market heats up on all air-cooled 911’s, pristine and highly original examples such as this one are quickly climbing in value and are being snatched up by enthusiastic collectors worldwide. This is your rare chance to own a true piece of Porsche history.

Thank you all for the comments, questions, and bids. We thought we would offer a few words about this car as we come to the end of the bidding. Please note that any questions will still be answered as we are online until the end. This 1985 911 is an amazingly clean, well running example. The paint truly is in excellent condition--possibly show-car condition, depending on the critic. The engine is extremely smooth with plenty of power and the transmission shifts as it should. The air conditioning blows ice cold with no leaks or malfunctions in the system. All power equipment works properly and all services are up to date. The only thing this car needs is a new loving home. Good luck bidding and we thank you for your consideration!

All i can say is that this site seems to do a really good job in keeping the bullshit to a minimum. Nice cars, good write ups, I had an early complaint that they addressed when I emailed them. The market is what it is. I just hope they don’t screw it up. Positive vibes ?

@Robert718 Very interesting to see everyone perspective......first, mileage is far from giving the value of a car. My 911 1987 has 155K miles and is pristine with a rebuilt engine. Its value is worth $45K, the price I just sold it for. I have seen 80’s 912 with 70K miles that looks like garbage.
Second, beware the so cold « good looking low mileage «  on a classic......it does not mean at all that there is nothing hidden behind the add and the car itself.
Third and last, I know for a fact that fake bidders are around to increase the final price of a car. Value of 911 is either stable or went down in 2017,2018 ( not included Turbos or special). I have a serious statistic in hand.
    Best bid to all

@bryanoak interesting perspective, I have been a long time watcher and commenter on the site, I would say around half of the cars sell. Also looking on instagram I see a lot seems to sell in the deal tank section on the site, considering an 87 Targa sold last week for about 42k with over 70k miles on it, I would imagine this car is worth a decent chunk of change more. i doubt your 45 bid makes it happen.

@GillesB Does it really matter? How many cars actually sell on PCM? I've kept my eye on a few and rarely do the auctions seem to reach the reserve price anyway. If I were to guess, I'd say most sellers simply use this site to advertise vs actually expect to sell.

Based on what I've seen on other listings, I'm also under no illusion this car will sell because the Reserve Price is likely well above the value.

  • panhardv (registered bidder) 4 years, 10 monthsago

@GillesB I thought I’d chime in. Some people Bid the minimum, some a few grand, some bring it up to what they think a cars is worth and some make a killer bid to scare away other bidders. It’s a tactical approach and each person (bidder) chooses their plan. Having been to dozens of auctions In person and BaT, I’ve seen it all. Not sure why you are questioning @soopendrin.

  • GillesB (registered bidder) 4 years, 10 monthsago

@soopendrin not sure why you are bidding so high $$$ in the game......

  • YrsNthemkn (registered bidder) 4 years, 10 monthsago

Just a quick note to add--a brand new battery will be installed prior to delivery and The A/C is ice cold--for real. The day the photos were taken, it was sunny and 85 degrees. Not once was there a need to roll down the window or open the sunroof. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!

  • mcotml.com (seller) 4 years, 10 monthsago

@jdavid2096 Good question. This a really tight car. No fluid leaks at all. We've had the car parked in the same place in our showroom for weeks at a time without being moved and zero fluid is under it when we move it. Good luck bidding. It's really a terrific car.

  • mcotml.com (seller) 4 years, 10 monthsago

@ISO100 Good eye--photos were done at Valley Forge! The make-shift axle lift is really just a bar that has wheels on it that can be seen under the front of the car if you look at the photos of the front. It stops the front from hitting the ground and rolls on the wheel built into the bar. It's a genius device fabricated by the last (second) owner. I can tell you from experience that it does work.

  • jdavid2096 4 years, 10 monthsago

Does it smoke when you start it and are there any oil leaks?
    Thanks!

Nice looking car, photos remind me of Valley Forge park area locations.

Any more details on the "lifting wheel" attachment mentioned? Photos while attached? Unattached? Curious to the rationale & implementation of a custom such as it is described.

@911symphony Thank you for the question. No compression test has been performed. There is no indication of any need for one. We would certainly be open to having one completed before delivery of the vehicle.
