Now available is this 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa Safari custom finished in Nutmeg Brown Metallic over a brown leather interior with tartan cloth inserts. Based on a 911 Carrera Targa, this 1985 example was acquired by the last owner in 2019 who subsequently carried out a custom Safari-style rotisserie restoration. The car was completely refinished, outfitted with a custom interior, equipped with an Elephant Racing adjustable coilover suspension, and optimized for off-road performance with a 3” lift, endurance fuel tank, rally lights, and BF Goodrich K02 all-terrain tires. The engine was also completely rebuilt and upgraded to a 3.4L displacement. With approximately 2k miles added by the seller/builder, this beautifully executed 911 Safari car is now being offered out of California.
This 911 Carrera Targa came factory finished in the seldom-seen color of Nutmeg Brown Metallic (492). It was recently treated to a rotisserie glass-out respray in its original color along with the installation of all new rubber seals. A TRE Motorsports rally light pod was installed with PIAA 7” driving lights as well as Rennline LED headlights, black Rennline drilled door handles, a fiberglass ducktail rear spoiler, and painted taillight covers. The factory Fuchs wheels are mounted with 215/65/16 BF Goodrich K02 all-terrain tires showing date codes from 2019.
The interior was completely redone by the specialists at Classic 9 Leather Shop of Dearborn Heights, Michigan. The factory Sport Seats were reupholstered with brown leather and tartan inserts along with matching door panels and a leather dashboard. The rear fold-down bucket seats were also reupholstered in the same style. All switches and buttons have been replaced with Rennline products including the HVAC, headlight, and hazard light controls. The floors are lined with FatMat Rattletrap sound deadening and feature Coco mats, black Rennline floorboards, throttle stops, and black aluminum pedals with heel/toe extensions. A WEVO Classic short shifter with a TRE Motorsports wooden 917-style shift knob has been fitted in addition to a leather-wrapped MOMO Prototipo steering wheel. The sound system was upgraded with a Porsche PCCM Classic radio with Apple CarPlay and JBL speakers in the front and rear. A Rennline blower motor assembly and smuggler’s box cover were also added in the trunk.
During the restoration, the air-cooled flat-six engine was sent to EPR Automotive to be completely rebuilt and upgraded to a 3.4L displacement with Mahle pistons and cylinders. The 5-speed manual transmission was also rebuilt during this time and paired with a new limited-slip differential. New Porsche Boxster brake calipers were installed with new mounts and stainless-steel brake lines. The suspension was raised by 3” and upgraded with adjustable Elephant Racing coilovers, RSR adjustable sway bars and bushings, camber plates, and chassis reinforcement. In addition, a 100L endurance fuel tank was equipped along with an Odyssey Extreme dry-cell AGM battery.
This sale will include a clean title. For any Porsche enthusiast who has always dreamed of taking an air-cooled 911 off-road, this 3.4L 1985 Targa offers the perfect opportunity.
