This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is finished in Guards Red over a Black interior and features a 911 Turbo tea tray rear spoiler, Fuchs forged alloy wheels, a MOMO Prototipo three-spoke steering wheel, an upgraded sound system, and a 5-speed manual transaxle paired with its air-cooled 3.2-liter engine. It was acquired by the current owner in 2014 and has been meticulously maintained including some notable service items and an application ceramic coating. Supported by a recent service and pre-purchase inspection, this Targa is now being offered for auction out of Massachusetts with approximately 74k miles showing on the odometer.
This 911 is finished in traditional Guards Red with a black Targa band and removable roof panel. Equipment includes a heated glass rear window, a front valence with integrated fog lights and a chin spoiler, headlight washers, black rear stone guard decals, a periscope-style third brake light, and a 911 Turbo tea tray rear spoiler. The car rides on factory 15” Fuchs forged alloy wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps and Cooper CS4 Touring tires (2008). The seller notes all painted surfaces were treated with an application of ceramic coating in 2018 and the car remains in very good overall condition apart from some cracking paint behind the wheel on the passenger rear quarter, a surface scratch on the driver’s front fender, and a dent under the rear bumper. The seller adds that the passenger side door panel may have been refinished under prior ownership. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this 911 features a black leather interior with matching carpets, a power-operated driver’s seat, a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, and black carpet floor mats with embroidered Porsche crests. Other accessories include air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, a quartz clock, a locking glovebox, a center console cassette holder, and a modern Pioneer Bluetooth stereo. The seller notes three-point seatbelts were installed for the rear seats and the original belts are included with the sale. An aftermarket rear parcel shelf has also been installed along with upgraded Infinity speakers mounted in the shelf and door panels. The seller notes a small split is present on the driver seat as well as some wear on the bolsters. All gauges and accessories are said to be functional other than the cigarette lighter socket and the rear defroster. The A/C does not blow cold at this time.
An air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. Service was completed upon the owner’s purchase in 2014 within the last 4k miles including a valve adjustment, new spark plugs, ignition wires, a fuel level sender, brake hoses, an O2 sensor, and a catalytic converter. Another service was completed within the last 1k miles including front wheel bearings, new tie rods, front sway bar bushings, a brake fluid flush, an oil change, and a speedometer repair. A pre-purchase inspection was also completed by a local Porsche specialist in November 2023 which is provided for reference in the gallery.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, some service records, and a clean title.

Was grateful I was able to purchase and own this for the past 9 years, but don't have enough time to drive and enjoy it as it should (only put 4000 miles during this time). I have spent money to do routine and required repairs to keep the car safe and roadworthy but have not gone overboard as you can always find a part that could use replacing or upgrading for a 39-year-old car. This is a really clean car. The PPI inspection (voluntarily paid for by me so I/and you would know what may be needed or disclosed before selling) was performed only a week ago found no moderate or major issues. A few minor items that are not critical to driving, function or looks. Ready for the road to be driven and enjoyed!

@biovic Hi all. I saw some questions on the rear fender paint cracking area so I ordered a paint thickness meter prior to the weekend, it arrived and I took some readings today around the rear fender panel. from the readings (numbers vary within that hand size area (thicker) and between adjacent surfaces) I assume this means that small area had been repainted.
I also took readings along the passenger door and show consistent paint thickness.

@EZEdChicago hello. Thanks for your comments. AC has not been converted. it did work up until about a year or two ago, but truthfully the cabin vents on the car are so tiny as you know they never really blow super cold IMO. That is what the targa top is for, to get some cool breeze. 😉
Yes there is an old Radar detector control unit mounted in place of one of the cassette tape holder slots, it is wired to a detector unit under the front chin spoiler. Is not currently operating (I may have cut the wire a while ago to stop random beeping). Yes it can easily be removed (or reactivated I guess). just never bothered me that much to do anything. I have a Valentine 1 detector that I trust over Waze.

Any more info re: non-cold AC? Looks like it hasn’t yet been converted from R12 (which shouldn’t be a major deal), but any insight into work needed to render it operable could help with your result here.
Separately, is that a hidden/“remote” radar detector / diffuser control shown in pic 84? IMO Waze has rendered detectors mostly obsolete (unless one goes REALLY over the top), but it’d be a fun note if that unit’s still operable.

@tff To me it seems like these are smaller than a turbo wide body but I don’t know any of those measurements of them. I personally think they make the rear fenders look bigger, but I guess it’s personal taste. And sorry I do not know about the removal process.

Maybe a small detail, but are those black stone guards not the right size for a narrow body 911? My understanding is that these came with either no stone guards or came with narrower stone guards. These seem sized for the turbo wide body?

@Another911 Thanks for your comments. Video of running engine and cold start are supposed to be uploaded soon by admins. I asked Autobahn Performance who did the sellers PPI if they were going to do compression or leak down test and they did not feel it was necessary. The front tires are correct aspect ratio for 15 inch rims, but 15s are fairly small diameter compared to modern sportscars so more tire sidewall may look off in comparison. (Not telling you anything you don't already know. ) ;-)
@tff Hi I added 3 new photos of the very slight surface scratch on the driver side fender. First photo is from 2 feet away (yes hard to even see, 2nd is a foot and 3rd is about 6 inches. I used a light to try to get the camera to even see them as they barely can be felt with back of fingernail. I see a small black scuff mark and I think I tried to wipe it last year with a microfiber cloth and must have been a few grains of dirt that just scratched the surface. I'm sure that area can be easily buffed out, I have not tried. And again, barely visible from even 2 feet away.

@tff thanks for the questions. I have not noticed the engine burns oil and was not mentioned by the shop, yes it was 1/2 quart low upon recent inspection.
-I do not have the original options sticker so don't know if spoiler is original.
-rear fender paint imperfection area does not appear to be rusted, I did Dr. Colorchip on the 2 spots probably 7-8 years ago, and am extra careful when I hand wash the car in that area. The palm sized area is sort of like a slight a very faint cracking 'look' under the clearcoat, really only visible from within a foot . Was exactly like this when I purchased back in 2014, has not gotten any worse. As "Another911" stated in their comment, potentially a prior paint repair but no reported accidents in the history.

-I have not looked lately for 15 inch wheels, but just looked at Tire Rack and recommend Pirelli P6000.
The records appear the car mechanicals have been properly cared for. Would highly recommend having either a leak-down or compression test on the motor done - good results will pay back 20x+. Also, a video of engine running would help. The typical interior problems with the older cars look to be in very good condition - seats, dash, targa top, and targa bar. That rear fender paint cracking is probably not rust, rather a poor paint repair that can be easily fixed if buyer wishes to do so. The rear parcel shelf is nice looking. The tires look to be too large for the wheels, but need to be replaced due to age anyway. Should be a great car for a new owner. GLWS

-I think the spoiler would be listed on the options sticker, if it's original. Is the option sticker available?
-Page 64 shows some touched-up paint on the rear fender. Can you confirm that that is not covering a rusted area? What is the cause of that flaking, scratch?
-Does a photo show the scratch on the front fender that is mentioned in the write-up?
-15" wheels... what's the availability of tires for this size wheel these days?
@jamride thank you. I do not know if the spoiler was installed at factory. But you can see the Porsche name and crest embossed on underside in photo, and the color matches the body.
Was the Tea Tray spoiler installed by the factory or added later? Beautiful car. GLWTA
Very nice looking fairly original lower mi Targa. For me, a little too much tail and wheel for a standard bodied car, but such things are quite subjective.
