Equipped with a larger 5.0-liter V8 engine, the 928 “S” model was Porsche’s range-topping grand tourer with impressive power and luxurious accommodations. This 1985 example was ordered in the Paint to Sample color of Garnet Red Metallic and features a rare 5-speed manual transaxle sending power to the rear wheels. Said to have benefitted from a previous timing belt and water pump replacement, this 928 S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada while showing approximately 100k miles on the odometer.
Compared to a standard 928, the S model is distinguishable by its back polyurethane front and rear spoilers as well as its 16” forged aluminum wheels. The factory specifications label lists the car’s Garnet Red Metallic color as a custom Paint to Sample option (L999) and the seller reports it was completely refinished in the original color under prior ownership. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing damage to have occurred in 2013.
The cabin is appointed with reupholstered Champagne Beige leather seats and contrasting black carpeting. Accessories include heated and power-operated front seats, a digital clock, automatic climate control, cruise control, a sunroof, a rear window wiper, electrically adjustable mirrors, and a sound system paired with an aftermarket Panasonic stereo and JBL speakers.
A naturally aspirated 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 engine distributes up to 288 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller states the timing belt and water pump were replaced in 2021 and there are no outstanding maintenance items at this time.
